Former LSU receiver Shelton Sampson Jr. transfers to Louisiana

Former LSU four-star wide receiver Shelton Sampson won’t be going far for his next stop, landing at Louisiana.

A former LSU wide receiver is on the move to an in-state foe.

In an Instagram post on Friday, Shelton Sampson Jr. announced his commitment to Louisiana. He entered the transfer portal on December 5 and joined the Ragin’ Cajuns after two seasons. Sampson made 11 appearances, including one start, through two seasons but didn’t record a catch.

The Baton Rouge, LA native committed to his hometown team as a four-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class. He was the No. 4 recruit in the state and No. 14 at his position, picking the Tigers over SEC foes Alabama, Auburn, and Texas A&M. On3’s Industry Rankings slotted Sampson as a three-star transfer and the No. 62 wideout in the 2025 class.

Sampson showed flashes in fall camp, per head coach Brian Kelly and his teammates, but never put it all together in game action. With multiple Tiger receivers leaving to transfer and turn professional, he may have had a chance to establish himself as a bigger threat.

However, Sampson elected to join his high school quarterback, Daniel Beale, in Lafayette. Beale and Sampson played together at Catholic High School in Baton Rouge.
