After the epic struggle between legendary rivals Texas and Texas A&M, ABC’s Holly Rowe caught up with Texas Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian after UT’s 17-7 win.
Rowe asked Sark how it felt winning in his first exposure to this old rivalry.
“Well, it feels pretty good. You know the rivalry is one thing. But the opportunity now to go play for an SEC Championship in our first year in the conference. It’s pretty exciting, but it’s going to be a heck of a challenge.”
Rowe the Texas coach asked about the goal line stand by the defense in the fourth quarter.
“Our defense was great all night. We nearly shut them out. They got the one interception on a tipped ball for the long touchdown, but our defense was fantastic all night long.”
Rowe asked Sark about the physical nature of his team, especially in the run game.
“Well, we challenged them about a month ago that the run game had to get going. This guy right here (Sark puts his arm around Quintrevion Wisner, who rushed for a career high 186-yards) has been a warrior this last month. So, just love that the O-line is doing, the tight end and this guy has brought a lot of heart to the unit. It’s been great.”
Finally, Rowe asked about playing in the SEC title game in the school’s first year.
“Well, that was the goal coming into it. It didn’t matter what conference we’re in. Our goal is to be champions year in and year out. That’s the standard here at the University of Texas. That will never change.”
