Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro finished off his rookie season with an impressive performance during the playoffs and, given his rapid rise to this point, his head coach believes the 20-year-old will only continue to improve on the court.

Herro, who became the youngest player to start in the NBA Finals, averaged 16 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 21 postseason games. He set the rookie record for the most consecutive games scoring in double digits and the most 3-pointers during a single postseason run.

Of course, the run by the Heat ended on Sunday as the Los Angeles Lakers claimed their 17th championship but head coach Erik Spoelstra took a second to reflect on how Herro progressed throughout his first season with the team and what his future may look like.

The time is always now with us and if you have the right leadership with Jimmy and Goran and UD, then young players can be all about now. … Tyler, he was a teenager when we started this bubble, and he’s totally different now from even where he was in January. Because of the way he approaches it and works, he will continue to get remarkably better fast.

Herro has been commended by his teammates for his work ethic and that showed throughout the postseason. He has emerged as a confident player in only his rookie season and firmly believes he will continue to improve next season and beyond.

Despite losing in the NBA Finals, the Heat appear to have a bright future ahead with a core group that features Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Herro and others on the roster.
