In case you missed the big news, former Ohio State and current New Orleans Saints wide-receiver Michael Thomas broke the NFL’s single-season record for receptions in a season Sunday. Even better, he did it in a winning performance for his team.
It’s clear that Thomas has turned himself from a bit of an afterthought recruit at Ohio State, to a good second or third option pass-catcher in college, to now arguably the best wide-receiver in the NFL. But make no mistake, it didn’t come without hard work.
Thomas and Saints quarterback Drew Brees spoke with FOX Sports’ Sara Walsh after the record-breaking performance, and one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game heaped exceptionally high praise upon Thomas.
When asked what he would say to Thomas now that he’s broken the single-season receptions record, Brees didn’t hold back.
“Well first off congratulations, and there’s nobody that deserves it more — there’s nobody that works harder for it.” said Brees. “What you see out here on Sundays is a culmination of so much hard work during the week. Every rep to this guy is a Super Bowl rep. And that’s what I love about him. I mean he’s such a model for perfection and how to be a pro. So, I love playing with this guy, and I know when I need to make a play …”
I don’t know about you, but I don’t know how you could say anything more positive than that about a guy you play with. And the fact that it comes from a future Hall of Famer at quarterback likely means more than anything to Thomas.
