Scott Forbes and the North Carolina Tar Heels baseball team had a disappointing end to the 2023 season by bowing out of the Terre Haute Regional with two losses to Iowa.
After a hot start to the year, the Diamond Heels faltered down the stretch and are now looking to build next year’s roster. Shortly after the Tar Heels were eliminated this past weekend, they received some good news regarding the future of the roster.
Eastern Michigan pitcher Luke Russo has committed to the Tar Heels for the 2024 season per Kendall Rogers. The right-hander will hopefully help UNC’s struggles with pitchers next season.
TRANSFER NEWS: @EMU_Baseball RHP Luke Russo, a 6-foot-4, 200-pounder, is headed to @DiamondHeels for the 2024 season. Russo logged 78 innings for #EMU this past season and recorded 107 strikeouts to go with just 25 walks. https://t.co/CbVK99yivAhttps://t.co/eTepH8FGTd

In 78 innings for Eastern Michigan, Russo had 107 strikeouts and walked just 25 batters. Russo posted a 6-4 record with a 4.62 ERA.
As mentioned above, UNC’s struggles this season with pitchers was seen throughout the year. The main thing for Forbes is to fix that bullpen and get it ready for a potential run next year.
