David Culley is pretty sure he is still in charge.
During Culley’s end-of-season presser with the Houston media, the 66-year-old, who completed his first season as a coach in the NFL, stated that he was still serving in the same capacity as he was following Week 18’s 28-25 loss to the Tennessee Titans.
“As far as I know, I’m the head coach of the Texans and moving forward with that,” Culley said.
Culley, who went 4-13, said that he did not have a meeting scheduled with chairman and CEO Cal McNair and general manager Nick Caserio, nor did he plan to talk to them.
“I will not speak to them,” Culley said. ” They will speak to me.”
Players in their postgame and Monday availability indicated support for Culley as coach in 2022, and he was not shocked by the news.
“I would hope they would and expected them to,” said Culley. “But I’m not surprised with that. They’ve been all in from the word ‘go.'”
As the coaching carousel spins, time will disclose whether McNair and Caserio similarly remain all in.
