Danuel House Jr. discusses how Sixers’ bench unit has come along

Danuel House Jr. discusses how the bench unit has grown for the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2022-23 season.

CAMDEN, N.J.–The Philadelphia 76ers made some offseason additions in order to help improve the bench unit. The Sixers wanted more two-way players and they wanted to have some guys with tough mindsets and be able to give the team an edge when the time calls for it.

One of those additions, Danuel House Jr., has been dealing with a left foot laceration, but he has been a guy who has consistently been in the bench rotation when healthy. He’s averaging 5.0 points and 2.0 rebounds while shooting 34.8% from deep in 23 games while also averaging 18.2 minutes per night.

House Jr. has continued to be a guy who coach Doc Rivers relies upon in order to get good production, but Philadelphia also has players like Georges Niang, Shake Milton, Matisse Thybulle, Montrezl Harrell, and others that they can turn to. De’Anthony Melton as well once he returns to his bench role when Tyrese Maxey returns from injury.

“We feel like we’re finding ourselves and we’re also carrying our part of the load,” said House Jr. “That was one of the emphases from last year’s team to this year so I think that we’re doing a good job of making sure that we handled that aspect of last year, you know what I mean?”

To House Jr.’s point, Philadelphia’s bench unit in the 2021-22 season was a solid group of players, but they didn’t necessarily have that two-way ability or that toughness to them in order to provide consistent production. The Sixers wanted to address all of that in the offseason.

“I mean no disrespect to no one on the team,” House Jr. clarified. “It was just the department we kind of got better off the bench and we’re handling stuff and stuff is just rolling.”
