Dallas Stars at Philadelphia Flyers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Dallas Stars at Philadelphia Flyers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Dallas Stars (8-5-1) and Philadelphia Flyers (7-5-2) meet Sunday at Wells Fargo Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET (NHL Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Stars vs. Flyers odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Stars were on the short end of a 5-4 home loss against the San Jose Sharks Friday night at American Airlines Center. The Stars had allowed 5 or more goals just once in the first 12 games, but Dallas has coughed up 5 goals in each of the past 2 outings, both losses.

Dallas is looking to avoid its first 3-game losing streak dating back to April 18-21 at the tail end of last season.

The Flyers lost 4-1 at home to the Ottawa Senators Saturday afternoon, and now face the quick turnaround after the bad loss on home ice with Carter Hart in the crease against the Senators.

Stars at Flyers projected goalies

Jake Oettinger (5-2-0, 1.90 GAA, .931 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Felix Sandstrom (1-3-0, 3.07 GAA, .909 SV%)

Oettinger was lit up for 5 goals on just 18 shots against the toothless San Jose Sharks offense, which was a stunner. He had yielded just 9 goals on 186 shots (.952 SV%) across his first 7 starts. Oettinger missed 4 games due to a lower-body injury, and he looked rusty in his return against San Jose.

Sandstrom turned in his best performance of the season, allowing just 1 goal on 28 shots Tuesday in a 5-1 win against the St. Louis Blues. It was his first win in 4 games overall. He has allowed 9 goals on 80 shots in 2 starts vs. Eastern Conference teams, while yielding just 3 goals on 52 shots with a 1-1-0 record vs. Western Conference foes.

Stars at Flyers picks and predictions

Prediction

Stars 4, Flyers 2

Moneyline

The STARS (-165) are a strong play as moderate favorites, even on the road, as the Flyers (+133) face the unenviable task of playing back-to-back matinee games.

Dallas comes with some risk, as Oettinger really looked rusty after his 4-game layoff, but he should be better here. And even if he doesn’t bring his ‘A’ game, he is still more reliable than Philly’s backup, Sandstrom.

Puck line/Against the spread

The STARS -1.5 (+140) are a worth a roll of the dice at plus-money here.

Dallas has won by at least 2 goals in all 8 victories this season. So, if you like Dallas to win, you should like it on the puck line, too. On the flip side, each of Philadelphia’s last 4 losses in regulation have been by 2 or more goals.

Over/Under

UNDER 6.5 (-112) is a solid play here despite the presence of Sandstrom. And, to be fair, the Philly backup was solid last time out, so he is no slouch. But the thinking here is that the Philly offense will have some heavy legs after skating Saturday afternoon, and Oettinger should be able to re-gain his lockdown form, too.
