Could Los Angeles Lakers veteran forward Carmelo Anthony join the Boston Celtics this offseason?
According to one anonymous Western Conference executive, it is something that the Celtics might consider, reports Heavy’s Sean Deveney.
In a recent article detailing what might be in store for the Lakers swingman next season and beyond, the exec in question sees Boston as a probable landing spot for Anthony.
“If they make a run here and get to the conference finals or the finals, he’s a solid option as a veteran shooter who can fill a small role,” the West executive reportedly said. “If you’re (Jayson) Tatum or (Jaylen) Brown, they’d welcome a veteran like that. They have young shooters that they are not playing and maybe they prioritize those guys. But he’d be a security blanket.”

While it seems unlikely the Celtics would risk the chemistry of their club for an aging vet who might want a bigger role than he warrants — particularly at the potential expense of developing the team’s younger players on the wing, as noted — Melo has shown signs of aging into a supporting role well.
But given the not-insubstantial number of ifs involved for everything to align, we suspect this is not likely to play out this offseason.
