Colts to re-sign WR Marcus Johnson

Marcus Johnson returns to Indy.

Despite allowing him to hit the free agent market, the Indianapolis Colts are re-signing wide receiver Marcus Johnson.

A steady contributor in an injury-laden wide receiver room during the 2019 season, Johnson recorded 17 receptions for 277 yards and two touchdowns. With depth needed in the room, the Colts bring back a familiar face.

Johnson is returning on a one-year deal with the Colts, per Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star.

The Colts saw most of their wide receivers suffer injuries during the 2019 season, and Johnson stepped up during the second half of the campaign. That’s why it was a bit of a shock to see them not tender his contract as a restricted free agent.

Johnson flashed some promising traits in 2018 before suffering a season-ending injury in Week 6 against the Jets. He served as depth in the wide receiver room during the 2019 season and made an impact during the second half when the Colts needed it most, leading the team in yards per reception.

Johnson will certainly be battling for a roster spot, especially with the likelihood of the Colts adding to the wide receiver room during the draft.
