We analyze the Colorado State-Wyoming odds and betting lines, while providing college football betting tips and advice on this matchup.

Colorado State at Wyoming: Three things you need to know

  1. Wyoming hasn’t played a tough (or even an average) schedule, but the Cowboys’ defense is impressive nonetheless. Wyoming does a nice job in limiting long plays from scrimmage (only 15 plays of 40+ yards allowed), and the Cowboys get more than their fair share of stops in the backfield. They are tied for 19th in the nation in sacks (3.0 per game) and tied for 24th in tackles for loss (7.1). Wyoming allowed 31 points to Missouri in the season opener; the Cowboys haven’t yielded more than 26 in a single game since.
  2. Wyoming’s four losses this season have been by a combined 15 points. The Cowboys are 2-4 in games decided by one score. That category is a decent perimeter tripwire when looking for teams undervalued or overvalued by the public.
  3. In games in which the Rams are keeping up with an opponent offensively, they have often gotten significant lifts on some special-teams outlier performances and/or sizable advantages in the exchange of field position. It all adds up to Colorado State being a bit too far out over its skis in how its offense is perceived by the betting public.

Against the Spread (ATS)

Colorado State’s 12th-ranked passing game (316 yards per game) will make some plays if QB Patrick O’Brien (three big-production games in his last four) has time to deliver the football. Failure do give him that time will be costly, though: that’s when the Cowboys’ pass rush can cause havoc, and the Rams are prone to coughing up the pigskin all too often (21 giveaways, T-117 in the FBS).

WYOMING -6.5 (-110) is a solid play. The Cowboys are 8-4 over their last 12 games as home favorites.

Over/Under (O/U)

Some stat crosses and double-crosses crop up when looking at the number here (50.5). A stout Wyoming running game (220 ypg, 20th FBS), combined with the Rams 115th-ranked rushing defense (207 ypg) and some cold, breezy weather make for a lean on the under. Just not a strong enough lean to make a play.
