Clemson’s Offensive X-Factor for Week 3 vs. FAU

Here is a look at the betting lines for Clemson’s Week 3 matchup with FAU.

Heading into Clemson’s matchup with Florida Atlantic, the Tigers’ offense needs to continue to improve before their Week 4 matchup against Florida State.

For this offense to have the success they need over the next two weeks, there is one person who needs to get the bulk of the offensive touches. That player is star running back Will Shipley, who is our offensive x-factor against Florida State.

Through two games, Shipley has 26 carries for 187 yards and 9 receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown. I think this workload is simply unacceptable for a player of the Shipley’s caliber.

I understand how good Phil Mafah is, and yes, he needs his touches. Even so, this is one of the best running backs in college football we are talking about here. I’ve made this comparison before… It is like Shipley is the Lamborghini they don’t want to take out of the garage too often.

Against Duke, it felt like Shipley could have taken over the game, but we didn’t see that opportunity given to him. Against Charleston Southern, sure, no need to overwork the running back… but 12 touches?

Shipley needs to be given a proper workload if the Tigers want to have a chance over the next couple of weeks. He is the clear pick for my X-factor.
