Chiefs HC Andy Reid provides injury updates after Friday practice

#Chiefs HC Andy Reid confirmed that S Tyrann Mathieu remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol on Friday, plus an update on RB Darrel Williams.

Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid spoke to the media on Friday, updating them on the injury situation following the conclusion of the practice week.

Star safety Tyrann Mathieu returned to practice as a full participant on Thursday. He was back out there again for the second consecutive day on Friday, but according to Reid, Mathieu has yet to clear the NFL’s concussion protocol.

“The badger, Tyrann (Mathieu), he’s still in the (concussion) protocol,” Reid said. “But he did practice today, and we think he’ll be ready to roll here in a day or so. But we’ll find out, we’ll see tomorrow.”

Expect Mathieu to be listed as questionable when the injury report comes out later today. You can find a breakdown of the NFL’s return-to-play protocols as it relates to Mathieu here.

After being downgraded to a limited participant in Thursday’s practice, RB Darrel Williams was also the subject of some discussion. Reid said that they made the decision to limit him to ensure that his toe didn’t flare up on him ahead of the game.

“Yeah, listen, I think he’s going to be OK,” Reid said of Williams. “We’re limiting him ourselves. Not him limiting himself. We just don’t want his toe to flare up and it has been great so far. We want to keep it that way.”

This type of precautionary measure could lead to Williams being able to play on Sunday. How it feels after Friday’s practice and Saturday’s walkthrough will ultimately be the determining factor there.
