Kansas City Chiefs DT Chris Jones made an incredible play at the end of the second quarter, but it’ll be a footnote on this season because of some horrible officiating.
Jones recorded a six-yard sack against Derek Carr in which he stripped and recovered a fumble all before hitting the ground. It was a spectacular, game-changing play, with the Chiefs trailing by 13 points with under two minutes to go in the first half. Yet, there was a yellow flag thrown on the play, which was called roughing the passer. A game-changing play potentially became a game-changing penalty.

Carl Cheffers will likely tell the pool reporters after the game that the reason they called the penalty was because of the body weight rule. The only problem with that is that Chris Jones did make a clear effort to put his arm out and brace to not land with his full weight on the quarterback. The other question at hand here is whether the foul occurred after Jones had possession of the football, in which case the Chiefs should have maintained possession of the ball.
The fans at Arrowhead Stadium let the officials know their displeasure after the call and it has been the talk of social media since. It comes just a day after another poor roughing the passer call on Falcons DT Grady Jarrett. Rest assured that we’ll be hearing about this one for a very long time, whether the Chiefs come back to win this game or not.
