CBS Sports 2023 mock draft has Marvin Mims joining CeeDee Lamb in Dallas

In a way too early 2023 NFL Mock Draft, the Dallas Cowboys land yet another Sooners’ WR as Marvin Mims is mocked to the Cowboys.

While the dust has settled on the 2022 NFL Draft for this year’s crop of Sooners, the work has already begun looking at next year. After all, player acquisition is a 365-day venture. It’s never-ending. With that said, CBS Sports released a way-too-early 2023 NFL first-round mock draft, and it features the Sooners leading wide receiver from the last two seasons. Marvin Mims.

In the first round, Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports sent Marvin Mims to the Dallas Cowboys at No. 24. Mims would join a Cowboys offense with CeeDee Lamb as its lead receiver in their high-powered offense.

The Cowboys keep adding skill position players to fuel this high-powered offense and Mims, while not a burner, is an incredible athlete with great hands. – Wilson, CBS Sports

The fireworks Mims and Lamb could produce would be truly something to behold, especially for fans of the Cowboys and the Sooners. Mims may not be Marquise Brown fast, but he’s electric with the ball in his hands and would instantly add some juice to the Cowboys’ offense.

Mims’ stellar freshman season put him on NFL radars almost immediately. While limited opportunities in 2021 capped his production, it’s reasonable to expect a year under new offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby will resuscitate his draft stock.

Lebby has been a staunch advocate of force-feeding his best players the ball, and Mims is pound-for-pound the Sooners’ best and most seasoned offensive threat heading into the 2022 season. Look for Mims to be fed early and often, leading to Mims becoming a first-round prospect next spring.

While it would be great to see Mims line up in the same offense as Lamb, at the moment, it doesn’t seem likely. This offseason, the Cowboys spent resources giving former third-rounder Michael Gallup a new contract. In the third round, they just drafted wide receiver Jalen Tolbert out of South Alabama.

Never say never, though, as Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is a sucker for a shiny object. With Lamb’s production so far, Jones could become enamored with the latest Sooners’ receiving threat making the Mims to Dallas connection a possibility come draft time.
