Redfall will be crossplay across all platforms

Vampire hunting is better with friends, no matter where they’re playing from.

Anyone gleefully looking forward to Redfall (most of us) will be happy to hear that it’ll be crossplay between all available platforms.

On Monday, Arkane Studios announced via a developer Q&A that Redfall supports crossplay across Xbox, the Epic Games Store, Steam, and PC Game Pass. Meaning you and up to three others can group up to take on the vampiric hordes regardless of platform! That sure makes coordinating with friends considerably easier, eh?

Redfall is the latest effort from Arkane Austin, the development house that brought us modern-day classics like Prey and Dishonored. Like the studio’s previous efforts, Redfall‘s campaign blends high-octane FPS combat and sneaky immersive sim sequences in an open world filled with vampires – it looks positively bleak.

There’s little time left until Redfall comes out, as it launches on May 2, 2023, for Xbox Series X|S and PC. Initially, it was due out before the end of 2022, before Bethesda delayed the game to this year. There wasn’t a release date announcement until the recent Xbox Developer Direct showcase

Fingers crossed that Redfall won’t suffer another delay before then, especially since it’ll likely be the biggest Xbox first-party release until Starfield drops.

Dragon Ball Z fans are going wild over the Budokai Tenkaichi reveal

A fan-favorite fighting game series based on the popular anime is returning after 15 years.

Yes, it’s true – Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi is returning after a 15-year absence. Hear that? It’s the collective howls of millions of Dragon Ball Z fans worldwide.

On Sunday, Bandai Namco announced that an all-new Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi is in development. There’s no word on when this will come out or the actual title yet – but the reveal alone was enough to make fans go wild, understandably so, since these folks have been waiting on a sequel to 2007’s Budokai Tenkaichi 3 for more than a decade.

Before we look at the reactions, check out the announcement teaser for yourself below.

Unlike Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi has a reputation for being pure unmitigated fan service above all else – as is evident by the collection of hilarious and hype-inducing reactions we’ve gathered below. Enjoy!

Hogwarts Legacy’s last-generation versions have been delayed

The PS4 and Xbox One ports are coming out later than expected.

While Hogwarts Legacy has been out on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC for several weeks now, the last-generation versions have unfortunately been delayed yet again.

On Monday, Warner Bros. Games and Avalanche Software announced that Hogwarts Legacy for PS4 and Xbox One will release on May 5, 2023 – a little over one month from the original launch date. Neither company gave a reason for the delay.

“We’re overwhelmed with gratitude for the response to Hogwarts Legacy from fans around the globe,” reads a statement from the Hogwarts Legacy Twitter account. “The team is working hard to deliver the best possible experience on all platforms, and we need more time to do this.”

There wasn’t an update on the Nintendo Switch port, which is seemingly still coming out on July 25, 2025. That’s about six months after the initial PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC launches for those of you keeping score – all of which recently received a meaty update. The latter may take some careful tweaking to get the game running properly.

If you’re jumping into Hogwarts Legacy, we’ve got guides on changing the time of day, picking locks, solving puzzles, key locations, and plenty more.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners wins Crunchyroll’s Anime of the Year award

The Cyberpunk 2077 spinoff continues to be a huge hit.

There wasn’t a bigger sleeper hit during 2022’s fall anime season than Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which just won Crunchyroll’s Anime of the Year Award.

The announcement came during Crunchyroll’s 2023 Anime Awards over the weekend, where the series beat out heavy hitters like Demon Slayer, Spy x Family, Lycoris Recoil, Ranking of Kings, and Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2.

“It’s a great honor,” reads a statement on the official Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Twitter account. “We’d like to thank everyone for their support, votes, and for watching our anime.”

Additionally, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners also won the best voice acting performance award for the English dub.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners came out to a pretty glowing reception last fall, so it’s not surprising that it scored top honors. Expectations for the Cyberpunk 2077 spinoff were pretty high before release, specifically because of Studio Trigger’s involvement – the studio behind anime classics like Kill la Kill and Little Witch Academia. In fact, the hype was so palpable that Cyberpunk 2077 had a significant bump in popularity.

Cyberpunk 2077‘s world will continue to grow with the upcoming Phantom Liberty expansion later this year – which stars Idris Elba (yes, really).

The Finals tips and tricks that lead you to victory

Get the edge in The Finals’ chaotic action with our tips.

Joining the market of competitive shooters, The Finals is quite a unique entry into the genre. Developed by former DICE employees, who formed Embark Studios, it offers a great range of movement options, a massive arsenal of weapons, and lots of colorful chaos.

In The Finals, you go to battle in squads of three players and need to break into the cash vaults on the map, grab what loot you can, and deliver it to specific drop-off points. You’ll then have to defend those areas for a bit to lock in your points. If that sounds like a lot of hard work, you can always try to benefit from robbing another team, who did most of that for you already.

[mm-video type=video id=01gtvm60v0rmxem552hq playlist_id=none player_id=01gp1x90emjt3n6txc image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01gtvm60v0rmxem552hq/01gtvm60v0rmxem552hq-0560295a94a6fecfa41fc52d084ccd49.jpg]

This cool game mode opens up lots of tactics, which combined with all the character builds on offer makes for quite a bit of depth. We’ll give you some tips on how to find your footing in The Finals and lead your team to victory and wealth.

The Finals preview: go big or go home

The Finals is a new competitive shooter that doesn’t do anything by halves.

Being overly cautious is not an attribute that will get you very far in The Finals, an upcoming first-person shooter by Embark Studios – you go big or you go home.

Each match features four teams of three players fighting over two cash vault locations on a map. Having to hold the position as a vault is unlocked, teams then have to grab the goods and bring them to a drop-off zone, where they once again have to hold their ground for a bit as their score is being processed. There is not a moment of safety during this entire process. Enemy teams can come up any time and steal that hard-earned loot away, reaping the fruits of another’s labor. It’s kind of like Sea of Thieves in that regard – there are no rules or protections.

[mm-video type=video id=01gtvm60v0rmxem552hq playlist_id=none player_id=01gp1x90emjt3n6txc image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01gtvm60v0rmxem552hq/01gtvm60v0rmxem552hq-0560295a94a6fecfa41fc52d084ccd49.jpg]

This gameplay loop not only forces you to grow eyes on your back, but also makes it important to switch between offensive and defensive approaches many times during a match. Mastering only one style won’t be enough to claim victory at the end of a game. Ambushes can be deadly, but the same goes for a well-prepared defense at a choke point, which can buy time with items like barriers. Due to the nature of the game – pure, straight-up chaos – being on the offensive is a lot more fun, though, as it gives you the initiative. Being the instigator of all that chaos is better than being only at the receiving end.

That chaos is strongly supported by the fact that every wall, floor, and ceiling in The Finals can be brought down if enough force is applied. This makes for cool moments any time it happens, but so far never presented itself as a really useful tactical option when planning an attack.

The Finals’ gameplay loop has a great flow to it. It’s a constant push back and forth, and even losing a cash vault to another team doesn’t spell an immediate end to this, as the heist takes long enough for your squad to make a comeback and threaten the cashout process.

Plans are never set in stone in this game, because another team might show up unannounced at your back as you’re fighting, or may immediately confront you after you’ve just won a hard battle. Improvisation is definitely a key skill to have.

THE_FINALS_Screenshot_0011_20220823_1920x1080

That can definitely be frustrating. While fights tend to be over quickly, each player can tank a surprisingly big amount of damage, leading to the feeling that everyone is a bullet sponge – a view that set in while using the standard assault rifle and did not fundamentally change with further progression in equipment and skill.

Even the pump-action grenade launcher didn’t feel particularly powerful – taking a direct hit to the face? No problem. Too low a health pool would pose its own problems with how quickly battles would be over, but it also makes certain strategies very potent.

Here’s an example: You can choose your character’s build from a light, medium, and heavy version. Heavy builds have lower mobility, but possess much more HP. Combining this heavy character model with a sledgehammer, which can kill people in a couple of hits, was pretty devastating and very hard to deal with. A character like that has so much health that it’s almost impossible to step them from reaching and clobbering you.

Obviously, balancing is a marathon and not a sprint – it takes a lot of feedback and time. It’s just a bit strange that the developers informed us after our time with the game of their intention to nerf things like the mentioned grenade launcher, which seems like the opposite way of how things are supposed to go.

Still, embracing the chaos and throwing yourself into the middle of it is lots of fun. You can bring so many different gadgets and items from high-explosive grenades to zipline guns and sticky goo that change the dynamics of what’s going on on screen from one moment to the next.

Drawing you right into the action, the game encourages you to get stuck into the fight and survive on instincts and quick thinking. It’s so intense and action-packed that you really want to dive in for another run immediately, despite some balancing frustrations. The closed beta period beginning on March 7, 2023, will be a blast.

The Last of Us’ Troy Baker believes Joel is ‘bigger than any one actor’

Pedro Pascal is killing it, according to Joel’s original actor.

Troy Baker, the actor who played Joel in The Last of Us video games, is a Pedro Pascal fan just like the rest of us – believing the character is bigger than any one performance.

During an interview with GamesRadar, Baker shared his thoughts on handing the reins to Pasal.

“What I love is that you don’t necessarily think Pedro Pascal, but the second that you mention the name, you go, ‘Okay, okay, I can see that,'” Baker said. “And then you see him as Joel, and then you watch him as Joel. And what it showed me was that, thankfully, this character is bigger than any one performance.”

“If it had just been like, I’m the only one who could do it, then we didn’t do a good enough job,” Baker continues. “This character needs to be bigger than one actor. And thankfully, not only Pedro but Bella as well as – as well as the rest of our cast – shows that this story, these characters, are bigger than just one version.”

Changes were inevitable, whether it was casting or storyline tweaks, though Baker is still in HBO’s The Last of Us. In episode eight, which aired Sunday, longtime fans no doubt recognized Baker played the character of James. It was a casting that surprised everyone, including Baker.

“It was a surprise. I really wasn’t anticipating it. I didn’t expect it,” Baker explains. “It wasn’t something where I was like, ‘You better find a role for me.’ If there was one, then great. If not, I’m happy to observe and cheer, and my voice will be above the den of all those that I know will be supporting this show. And so [Neil Druckmann] came to me and was like – I’ve been jokingly saying this all day – he said, ‘Hey man, I got a role for you.” I’m like, ‘Oh dude, thank you.'”

FIFA 23 adds NWSL ahead of 2023 season kickoff

For the first time ever, the NWSL will be in the hugely popular video game franchise

EA Sports has announced that the NWSL will be playable on FIFA 23, starting on March 15.

FIFA 23 is the first game in the series that features women’s club leagues, with the Women’s Super League in England and the French Division 1 Féminine included when the game launched in the fall.

The American top flight was nowhere to be found, though EA Sports hinted that it would expand its offering of women’s leagues in the future.

That has now been confirmed, with the NWSL to be available on March 15 within Kick Off, Tournament Mode, Head to Head season/Co-op Seasons and Online Friendlies. There will also be four NWSL stadiums available in the game.

“The NWSL’s integration into EA Sports FIFA 23 is a monumental milestone for the league, the players and millions of football fans around the world as we continue pushing boundaries for the women’s game,” said NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman in a release.

“The athletes that call the NWSL home are some of the best in the world and we’re excited for the opportunity to further showcase their talent through this unique gaming experience. We can’t wait for fans to begin playing and we look forward to continuing this celebration of the players and the league when we kick off our 11th season on March 25.”

“Today is a historic day for both our players and fans,” added NWSL Players Association executive director Meghann Burke. “This is a thrilling time for women’s football, and we’re looking forward to collaborating with EA Sports to champion the sport and create new opportunities for fans around the world to engage with these incredibly talented players.”
