Updated Titans 53-man roster, practice squad after recent moves

The Titans have made some changes to their 53-man roster and practice squad since the initial groups on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The word “initial” was thrown around quite a bit on Tuesday when the Tennessee Titans and 31 other teams revealed their 53-man rosters.

That’s because changes are inevitable ahead of the start of the season, and that’s something Tennessee has already seen in the days after cutdown day.

In fact, not only have the Titans made moves on their 53-man roster, they’ve also made a change to the practice squad, which is eligible to have 17 players instead of 16 because of the exemption for tight end Thomas Odukoya. The Titans currently still have one spot open there.

The biggest addition to the team since the initial rosters were released was the signing of edge rusher Trevis Gipson, who makes an already impressive defensive front even better. Tennessee also released offensive lineman Justin Murray before bringing him back on the practice squad.

Now, a look at the Titans’ current 53-man roster and practice squad afterthe recent moves. Players in bold are a new addition since the initial groups were revealed on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

Biggest surprises from Titans’ initial 53-man roster

Shaun Calderon lists his biggest surprises from the Titans’ initial 53-man roster.

The Tennessee Titans officially trimmed their roster down to 53 players on Tuesday afternoon. Needless to say, this is a ridiculously hard day for everybody involved.

More specifically, when it comes to those who are let go, since many of them now face the reality that their NFL dream could possibly be over.

Some of the released players will undoubtedly land on practice squads and/or other rosters across the league, but that unfortunately won’t be the case for several others.

Nevertheless, this article is going to discuss the biggest surprises when it comes to the Titans’ initial 53-man roster, which includes the six biggest surprises for those who did make the roster, as well as the five biggest surprises for those who didn’t.

Some of these decisions are surprises because they seemingly came out of nowhere. Meanwhile, others are more of a shock due to how many players remain at one particular position.

Let’s not wait any longer and dive right into it.

Predicting the Titans’ practice squad after final cuts

After the Titans whittled down their roster to 53 on Tuesday, a look at how things might shake out with the practice squad.

Now that the Tennessee Titans have set their initial 53-man roster, the team will turn its attention to the practice squad over the next few days.

Players who were cut on Tuesday can be claimed by noon ET on Wednesday. Any player who is claimed will be added to the team’s 53-man roster. Those players who pass through waivers become free agents and can be added to practice squads.

Thanks to the International Pathway Program, the Titans can once again carry 17 players on their practice squad as long as tight end Thomas Odukoya is brought back.

All or the vast majority of the players on Tennessee’s initial practice squad will likely be players the team cut.

Because I can’t see into the future, this practice squad projection will include only players who have been cut by Tennessee. The only position not covered is quarterback, because the Titans are already carrying three on the 53-man roster.

Titans reveal initial 53-man roster for 2023 season

The Titans have revealed their initial 53-man roster for the 2023 season.

UPDATE: The Tennessee Titans have since made some changes to their initial 53-man roster and practice squad. You can check those out right here.

The Tennessee Titans have whittled down their offseason roster to just 53 players ahead of the cutdown day deadline on Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.

Of course, this is just the initial 53-man roster, as the Titans will be making more moves ahead of the start of the season, and throughout the 2023 campaign.

Now, the Titans will also turn their attention to putting together the practice squad over the coming days, which will consist of mostly players Tennessee has cut. However, many will have to pass through waivers first before they can be brought back.

For players with less than four years of NFL service, they’ll go on waivers, where they can be claimed on Wednesday at noon ET. Players with four or more years of service immediately become free agents upon being cut.

As far as the Titans’ initial 53-man roster goes, you won’t find right tackle  Nicholas Petit-Frere or cornerback Caleb Farley. Neither counts toward the 53-man limit, as NPF is suspended the first six games and Farley is starting 2023 on the PUP list and will miss four games.

Without further ado, the Titans’ initial 53-man roster.

Titans CB Anthony Kendall to make 53-man roster

Titans 2023 UDFA and CB Anthony Kendall has reportedly made the team’s initial 53-man roster.

We have our first 53-man roster surprise of the day, as Tennessee Titans 2023 UDFA and defensive back, Anthony Kendall, has reportedly made the cut.

According to Aaron Wilson of Click2Houston.com, Kendall will be on the initial 53-man roster. While not totally shocking considering he’s received praise from head coach Mike Vrabel on multiple occasions, it’s always at least somewhat surprising to see an undrafted rookie make the cut.

Kendall, who played his college ball for a Division III school in Baldwin Wallace College, managed to stand out during the offseason, but did so especially on special teams, which no doubt helped his cause greatly.

Over the course three preseason games, Kendall posted Pro Football Focus grades of 74.1 in run defense and 60.6 in coverage while tallying an overall mark of 64.9. He finished with three tackles, two run stops and a passer rating allowed of 58.8.

Report: Titans waiving wide receiver Racey McMath

The Titans are reportedly waiving 2021 sixth-round pick and WR Racey McMath.

The Tennessee Titans are reportedly parting ways with 2021 sixth-round pick and wide receiver, Racey McMath.

The news comes from NFL insider Jordan Schultz. McMath will now be subject to waivers on Wednesday at noon ET. If he clears, the Titans will have an opportunity to bring him back on the practice squad or even the active roster if a spot opens up and they want him in that capacity.

For now, McMath is the third member of the Titans’ 2021 draft class to be let go in the past few years, along with wide receiver Dez Fitzpatrick and safety Brady Breeze.

McMath started off the preseason strong with a team-high 53 yards against the Chicago Bears, but he failed to build on that the rest of the way after having a quiet training camp.

We did not have McMath on our final 53-man roster, instead giving the WR6 spot to rookie Kearis Jackson. We’ll see if that comes to fruition in mere hours.

Titans activate Dillon Radunz off PUP list among 4 moves

The Titans made four roster moves on Monday, one of which included activating OL Dillon Radunz off the PUP list.

The Tennessee Titans are getting back 2021 second-round pick and offensive lineman Dillon Radunz right before cutdown day on Tuesday.

The team announced on Monday that Radunz has been cleared to practice and is no longer on the physically unable to perform list.

Radunz, who suffered a torn ACL in December last season, was projected to start the season on the PUP list, which would have knocked him out for the first four games.

However, clearly that is not the case and instead Radunz will be ready for the start of the season after recovering in just eight months.

This figures to shake things up a bit for the offensive line room.

It’s doubtful Radunz, who can play both guard and tackle, will grab a starting spot this late in the process, but he should be able to secure a depth role. And, if all goes well with his return and someone upfront struggles mightily, perhaps Radunz can work his way up the depth chart.

Along with activating Radunz, the Titans announced three more moves on Monday. Here’s a look at them:

Predicting the 29 Titans who will be cut by Tuesday

After making a final 53-man roster projection on Sunday, we take a look at which Titans we predicted will be cut by Tuesday’s deadline.

The Tennessee Titans are just one day away from making final cuts to trim the roster down to 53 players, but the team has already begun that process.

On Sunday, the Titans parted ways with six players, including tight end Justin Rigg, kicker Michael Badgley, linebacker Alonzo Davis, offensive linemen Zack Johnson and James Murray and wide receiver Gavin Holmes.

Reported cuts figure to continue trickling out on Monday and early Tuesday, so we have a full tracker that will be updated regularly to keep you up to speed on what’s happening. You can check out that tracker right here.

After putting together a final 53-man roster projection on Sunday, we’re now turning our focus to the players who we predicted will get cut to get to that number.

Bear in mind, the Titans could bring back any of these players, either on the practice squad or active roster should a spot open up in the days after cutdown day on Tuesday.

Here’s the list:

Final Titans 53-man roster projection ahead of cutdown day

One last 53-man roster projection for the Titans ahead of cutdown day.

The time for the Tennessee Titans to trim their roster down to the final 53 is nearly upon us, with cutdown day just two days away.

Before then, we’ll see cuts trickle out via reports over the next few days, but the initial 53-man roster must be set by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Aug. 29.

That will be the “initial” 53-man roster because the group is likely to undergo some changes ahead of the start of the season, which is still a few weeks away.

With the preseason in the books and cutdown day almost here, we’re taking a look at one final 53-man roster projection for the Titans based on everything we’ve seen this offseason.

As always, you won’t find Nicholas Petit-Frere in this projection, as he’s suspended for the first six games, and Caleb Farley and Dillon Radunz remain on the PUP list.

Now, the projection.

Titans sign K Michael Badgley, waive both young kickers

The Titans have parted ways with both Caleb Shudak and Trey Wolff in favor of veteran Michael Badgley.

After an entire offseason of wondering who was going to win the competition between kickers Caleb Shudak and Trey Wolff, the answer resoundingly ended up being neither of them.

Tennessee parted ways with both Shudak and Wolff on Tuesday afternoon, and have now chosen to go with veteran kicker Michael Badgley.

Badgley had a brief and unsuccessful stint with the Titans in 2021 before revitalizing his career with the Colts and Lions, making 85.7 and 83.3 percent of his kicks, respectively, the last two years.

As for Shudak and Wolff, the two of them appeared to have strong training camps, but Wolff ended up missing 1-of-2 field goals in the preseason, and Shudak barely made his lone attempt.

The Titans entered the offseason looking for a kicker with a bigger leg, and while both young kickers seemed to have that trait, clearly it wasn’t enough for Tennessee to move forward with either.

Badgley is now the only kicker on the Titans’ roster and it appears as if it’s his job to lose. However, the “Money Badger” is already having a rough go of it at his first practice.

This situation is still fluid, but Badgley did end his rough day on a high note by nailing a 49-yard field goal to end practice.
