Ole Miss vs Texas A&M Game Preview

Why Ole Miss Will Win

Call it a blip.

The Ole Miss defense has been solid for most of the season and the offense has been fantastic on the way to pushing through the first seven games before having problems at LSU.

The D couldn’t handle Tiger QB Jayden Daniels and struggled with the offensive balance, but there’s not much to worry about with the Texas A&M attack.

The Aggies didn’t come into the season with a whole lot of firepower, and it’s proving costly with injuries – you don’t get better losing a playmaker like Ainias Smith – with the second-worst attack in the SEC averaging just 342 yards per game.

The passing game isn’t consistent enough, the running game isn’t picking up the slack, the offensive line is banged up, and …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 8

Why Texas A&M Will Win

What? An actual home game?!

It’s one of the weirdest scheduling quirks of the 2022 season for a program of Texas A&M’s caliber. Starting with the neutral site game in Dallas against Arkansas, the Aggies haven’t been in College Station since September 17th.

The three road losses to Mississippi State, Alabama, and South Carolina might not have been fun, but there were chances against the Tide and Gamecocks.

No, the offense hasn’t been anything great, but it’s hitting 250 yards per game over the last three, and now the ground game should work against a D that allowed 553 yards over the last two weeks.

There should be rushing production from all parts of the backfield, the midrange throws will be there to keep things moving, and …

– Game Previews, Predictions CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Being at home will matter.

It’s not like the Aggies cranked up the production at Kyle Field against Miami or Appalachian State, and the O won’t go off, but they need a shot of energy and they’re about to get it.

It starts with the run defense. Alabama and Arkansas were able to pound away a bit, and Ole Miss will have its moments, but the front line will be strong from the start and keep the great group of backs to under 200 yards.

It’s Texas A&M – this isn’t going to be pretty, especially with QB Haynes King banged up. The defense will rise up and pick up the slack.

Texas A&M vs South Carolina Game Preview

Why Texas A&M Will Win

It’s not a question of whether or not the South Carolina turnovers will come. They’ll be there, but how many? It has yet to go a game this year without turning it over at least twice.

Texas A&M tends to play relatively low scoring, tight games with mistakes like the obligatory Spencer Rattler giveaway baked into the gameplan.

Now it’s up to the Aggies to not give them back. The two turnovers in row load to Appalachian State were part of the problem, and the four against Mississippi State helped turn the game into a rout.

Grind away with the running game against a defensive front that gives up 175 yards per game, keep the score low, and win the mistake battle.

South Carolina is 0-2 when it’s -3 in turnover margin. Texas A&M was +3 against Alabama, but …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 7

Why South Carolina Will Win

The Aggie defense doesn’t take the ball away in bunches.

South Carolina can’t be conservative, but it can’t force anything. Rattler wasn’t able to do much of anything in the loss to Georgia, but he got time against Charlotte and South Carolina State to tune up a bit, and he was sharp enough to complement the ground game in the win over Kentucky.

He’ll turn it loose a few times to stretch the A&M secondary, but as long as he’s able to hit the third down throws and come up with a few early scores, he’ll be doing his job.

Texas A&M is struggling to score – it’s last in the SEC in points per game. That’s partly because of the style, and partly because it’s missing the high-octane playmakers.

South Carolina is getting the O going at just the right time, but …

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

The Gamecocks got Kentucky without Will Levis. No excuses, win with what you’ve got, but that wasn’t the same Wildcat team without the top five overall draft pick QB.

They beat Charlotte and South Carolina State, and they started the season off by taking down Georgia State.

Again, win no matter what, you are what your record says you are, and …

It’s not like South Carolina has beaten a slew of killers, losing to Arkansas by 14 and Georgia by 41.

Texas A&M was at least competitive against Alabama, and it was fine against Mississippi State before the turnovers kicked in. Beating Arkansas and Miami isn’t amazing, but it’s something.

This is the fourth straight game away from home for the Aggies, and they’ll be fine as long as they can come up with a few first half scoring drives.

It’ll be tight until the end with A&M’s defense holding up in the final few minutes with a takeaway.

Alabama vs Texas A&M Game Preview

Why Texas A&M Will Win

Poor Texas A&M.

It can’t seem to get the offense going, the turnovers are a problem, the defense is getting run over too easily, the season is basically over with two losses, the quarterback play isn’t great, Jimbo Fisher wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Jameis Winston, Alabama is about to make a statement after the offseason head coach kitten fight, all recruit no results, next year is the year …

You name the insult from every possible corner of the SEC, and it’s flying. It’ll be a miracle if Texas A&M even decides to waste everyone’s time by showing up and …

Yeah, poor Texas A&M. It’s not like this program knows anything about rising up and taking down Alabama or anything – it won last year in College Station 41-38.

No, the offense isn’t where it needs to be and the defensive front isn’t generating enough of a pass rush, but if there aren’t a slew of big mistakes, this team has a shot.

A&M was -2 in turnover margin against Appalachian State, and the four giveaways and other mistakes in the loss last week to Mississippi State were devastating. It was as error-free as possible against Miami and Arkansas, and that’s what it’s going to take here.

Again, the numbers might not show it, but the defense is holding up. No one has been able to rip through this group so far.

Mississippi State got one massive touchdown pass in the fourth quarter last week to pull away, and it also generated a pick six and took a field goal attempt for a kick six.

With some due respect to Texas, even with all of the problems and issues, Texas A&M is the most talented team Bama has faced so far and it wasn’t exactly smooth sailing against the other two.

It gets lost in the narrative, but Arkansas was right there last week before the Bama running game took things up a few notches.

Give the team credit for cranking up a fantastic fourth quarter with Bryce Young out with a shoulder injury, but that got scary, the Texas game was downright frightening, and there was that other great win over … uhhhhh … Vanderbilt? Utah State? ULM?

But …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 5

Why Alabama Will Win

Yeah, can that Alabama show up this week?

The Tide were brilliant at Arkansas to start, then Young hurt his shoulder, and then Arkansas fought back, and then Jalen Milroe, Jahmyr Gibbs, and the Alabama coaching staff apparently decided enough was enough.

The Tide offensive line put on a clinic over the final 15 minutes, Milroe and Gibbs were phenomenal on big runs, and just like that, the team looked and played like the national championship team we know is in there somewhere.

The key here is to get out to a solid start. Texas A&M might have beaten Arkansas, but it doesn’t have the ability to come back if it gets down and has to start winging it around.

This has to stay within ten points throughout, or it’ll be a shocker if the Aggies can make a run.

It starts with getting that O line in a lather from the start. It wasn’t always great throughout this year, but A&M’s front is getting beaten on enough to matter. Arkansas was able to grind it out, Appalachian State toughed its way to 181 yards, and even Miami averaged close to five yards per carry.

Considering the concerns at quarterback, and with the wide receiver situation still underwhelming, Bama needs to go with what works. Gibbs, more Gibbs, work in the rotation, give Milroe an opportunity to make a few plays in space, and then let the defense eat against an A&M offense that’s the statistical worst in the SEC.

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

All the snipping between Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher this offseason will quickly and easily be blown off – welcome to life in the SEC.

Young’s shoulder will be a storyline, but it’ll be the play of the Bama lines – this is where the pass rush shows up large – that takes over the game.

A&M will come up with a few nice drives, but when it has to generate a scoring drive in a big moment to make this interesting in the second half, it’s not going to be there.

Texas A&M vs Mississippi State Game Preview

Why Texas A&M Will Win

It certainly isn’t pretty, but it’s working.

Is A&M getting good quarterback play? No. Does it have enough offensive weapons? No, and things didn’t get any better after losing star WR Ainais Smith to a leg injury.

But it still works.

It all collapsed against Appalachian State, but the defense held up time and again in the win over Miami, and it held on and survived everything Arkansas was able to do.

There’s no Mississippi State running game to worry about, and the A&M pass defense is strong enough to hold up. It’ll give up the mid-range plays, but it’ll make the tackle.

The Aggie D has been able to keep the game low scoring and in range against the Bulldogs over the last two years, but …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 4

Why Mississippi State Will Win

The Texas A&M offense really, really isn’t working.

It’s good at scoring when it gets the chance, but it’s not getting enough out of the running game, and worst of all for the team that’s last in the SEC in total O, it’s not controlling the clock.

Mississippi State isn’t controlling the time of possession like it normally does, but Texas A&M really isn’t doing much to hold on to the ball. If you can’t keep the chains moving, the Mike Leach offense will be happy to keep its offense on the field for 40 minutes.

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

How did LSU pull off the win over the Bulldogs? It rallied in the fourth quarter with 21 points on a great finish from Jayden Daniels, and it held the ball for close to 33 minutes.

LSU stopped the Mississippi State offense on third downs. Texas A&M can do that. LSU then used those stops late – and was helped by a fumble recovery – to pull it off. A&M might be able to come up with the takeaways, too.

The offense, though, won’t be able to do enough to overcome a strong day from the D.

It won’t be pretty, but the Mississippi State defense will rise up on two late A&M drives.

Arkansas vs Texas A&M Game Preview

Why Texas A&M Will Win

Max Johnson was fine.

Texas A&M won’t be anything pretty this season. It’s going to grind, it’s going to rely on its defense, and it’s going to find ways to win.

Haynes King was unfairly blamed for not getting the O going in the weird loss to Appalachian State, but something had to be changed.

Johnson was hardly razor-sharp in the win over Miami, but the offense was a wee bit better on third downs, the ground game was okay, and …

Yeah, the offense has problems. Fortunately, the defense has been fantastic.

The D has been a rock against the pass over the first three games, overall it’s allowing just over 300 yards per game, and it’s got the line to hold up against the Arkansas running game that needs to dominate to win.

The Hog defense has been lit up so far through the air – everyone has thrown for 325 yards or more against the secondary – but …

CFN Expert Picks, Week 4

Why Arkansas Will Win

Yeah, again, the Texas A&M offense has problems.
