Iowa (5-2) vs Wisconsin (2-2) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Wisconsin Will Win

The Wisconsin defense continues to be special.

The Badgers lead the the nation in total defense by a relative mile – allowing just 229 yards per game – run defense, third down defense, and time of possession. They’re holding he ball a whopping 3:18 a game more than the No. 2 team in time of possession, Rice.

Iowa passing game is okay, but nothing special. It doesn’t have to run to win, but it has to be at least decent, and it has to do something to control the clock – it’s going to lose the time battle by at least ten minutes.

Worst of all for the Hawkeyes, they’re awful on third downs, and now they have to deal with that D that allowed teams to covert just 24% of the time.

Week 15 College Schedule

Why Iowa Will Win

The Wisconsin offense continues to be awful.

Most of the top wide receivers are banged up, the running game can’t get going – it ran for 140 yards or fewer in back-to-back games for the first time since early in the 2016 season – and the team just can’t score.

The offense hasn’t stalled, but it can’t put the biscuit in the basket. The last time the program failed to score more than seven points in back-to-back games was in early November of 1991.

Iowa hasn’t been spectacular, but it’s been rock-solid with great line play – it’s Iowa – a good turnover margin, and enough of an offensive balance to be fine. It’s a formula team that isn’t going to be great in shootouts, but handles itself well in tough battles.

Welcome to the Wisconsin game.

CFN Experts Picks: Week 15

What’s Going To Happen

It’s going to be a low-scoring battle with neither team able to establish anything throughout the game. However, Wisconsin is stalling way too much.

It’s a simple problem. Defenses are loading up against a running game that’s missing a Jonathan Taylor-type of back, Graham Mertz doesn’t have the top targets to throw to and hesitates a bit too much, and the whole thing has come to a stop.

The offense will get creative, but it won’t work well enough. Iowa will have to live off of several Keith Duncan field goals, but it’ll come up with a strong, tough home win.

Penn State (2-5) vs Michigan State (2-4) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Michigan State Will Win

Michigan State had a bad day against Ohio State, but when the team gets good play out of the lines, it can win.

It was able to run well enough to get by Northwestern, and even though the ground attack hasn’t been anything great, the team is 2-0 when running for over 100 yards and 0-4 when it doesn’t.

Penn State has been good against the better passing teams, but it’s been hammered on by anyone who tries to run, allowing over 100 yards five times.

On the other side, the defensive front has had its problems, but it leads the Big Ten in tackles for loss and there’s enough of a pass rush to be a problem.

Week 15 College Schedule

Why Penn State Will Win

The team has pulled up out of the nosedive.

It was a rough first part of the season in the worst start ever for the program, but the effort was there, and there just wasn’t a whole lot of luck. What changed? The running game took over with two straight 200-yard days – 502 yards combined – helped by the emergence of the quarterbacks as more dangerous runners.

Michigan State’s defense is coming off a rough day, giving up 322 on the ground to Ohio State.

The Nittany Lion offense is doing a strong job of controlling the clock, the team is second in the Big Ten in total offense, and the secondary has been terrific.

CFN Experts Picks: Week 15

What’s Going To Happen

Michigan State isn’t scoring, it’s not getting the offense moving, and it’s having massive problems with turnovers.

Penn State is trending up, it’s saving its season with a good formula that’s starting to work, and it’s going to rely on a defense that’s allowed fewer than 300 yards four times and an O that’s getting the ground game going.

Penn State makes it three straight wins.

Auburn (5-4) vs Mississippi State (2-6) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Auburn Will Win

The Tigers might have struggled against the stars of the West – getting rocked by Alabama and Texas A&M over the last two weeks – but they’ve been able to beat the mediocre.

Okay, there was a South Carolina blip in the middle of the season, but for the most part, the defense has been okay, the secondary has been decent, and the real issue – getting gutted by the Texas A&M running game and having problems with Tennessee and Ole Miss – won’t be a concern against the Bulldogs.

There’s no running game whatsoever coming from Mike Leach’s team – and the nation’s worst running game – there aren’t enough big plays down the field, and there are too many issues at scoring when the chances are there.

But …

Week 15 College Schedule

Why Mississippi State Will Win

The turnovers have slowed, and the team has improved because of it.

Giveaways were a gigantic problem over the first five games with 19 in all, and then the glitch got fixed. Over the last three games, MSU has turned it over just once, and the five takeaways against Vanderbilt led to the second win of the season outside of the start against LSU.

It also helps that Will Rogers has grown into the starting quarterback job, improving his passing numbers in each of his six appearances and coming off a terrific 440-yard, three-touchdown day in the loss to Ole Miss.

The third down conversions continue to be an issue, but the Bulldogs get to go against the SEC’s worst defense at coming up with third down stops.

What’s Going To Happen

Mississippi State will rise up in the regular season finale – it still might get a bowl game out of all of this.

Continually lost throughout this season has been a defense that’s been good enough to get by. There were the expected problems against the top teams, and getting ripped up by Vanderbilt wasn’t fun, but for the most part, it’s been okay.

After getting pounded on last week by the A&M running game, the Tiger D will get picked on by the Mississippi State passing attack.

Florida (8-1) vs LSU (3-5) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why LSU Will Win

What is LSU doing right?

The effort is there, and the team is essentially trying to get the future stars as much experience as possible, and there’s just enough of a passing game to make the Gators worry a bit.

TJ Finley and Max Johnson are both struggling, but they’re at least combining to keep pushing the passing attack.

Florida’s mindset might be on the SEC Championship next week, there’s not enough of a ground game to worry about, and there’s just enough of a Tiger pass rush to get a little bit of pressure on Kyle Trask.

For all of the great things the Gators are doing, they’re not quite putting games away like Alabama is. There wasn’t any drama over the last few weeks, but there seems to be a ceiling around the mid-to-high 30s points-wise – LSU might be able to hang around for a while.

Week 15 College Schedule

Why Florida Will Win

LSU’s offense has stalled.

There’s still talent on both sides of the ball, but the freshman quarterbacks just aren’t moving the ball enough, and the defense isn’t holding up.

Pressed in game after game, the secondary is allowing an SEC-high 313 yards per game with an offense that’s not providing any help. LSU might not be bad in the time of possession battle, but that’s not because of long scoring marches.

Kyle Trask continues to roll. It might take a little while to heat up at times, but he’s hitting well over 70% of his passes over the last four games with 16 touchdown passes and no picks. It’ll be more of the same against the Tigers.

What’s Going To Happen

There’s no reason for style points for Florida, and there no point in doing anything but getting through this game healthy and getting to Alabama at 9-1 with a shot at the College Football Playoff with a win.

LSU will come up with just enough points to not make this a total wipeout, but unlike the last few games, Florida will come out hot and put this away fast.

Tennessee (2-6) vs Vanderbilt (0-8) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Tennessee Will Win

Tennessee is in bad shape, and Vanderbilt is having a rougher time.

The Commodores not only haven’t won a game, and they’re not only dealing with an interim head coach in Todd Fitch after Derek Mason was fired, but they’re also coming off a totally miserable performance against Missouri.

The coverage of the groundbreaking moment from PK Sarah Fuller glossed over that the offense never gave her any chances to try a real kick. Vandy lost 41-0, came up with just 196 yards of total offense, and the Vols can use the break.

Tennessee, for all of its problems, has at least put up a few passing yards. It hasn’t been consistent or smooth sailing, but the team has hit the 240-yard mark in each of the last two games. Now it gets to go against the SEC’s least efficient pass defense. But …

Week 15 College Schedule

Why Vanderbilt Will Win

Tennessee can’t move the ball, even a little bit.

The Vols are dead last in the SEC in third down conversions, generating points is like pulling teeth, and there’s been no consistency whatsoever to the attack.

Tennessee hasn’t hit the 20-point mark in any of its last five games.

Vanderbilt isn’t doing a whole lot right, but for the most part, it’s been able to hit its third down chances, the offensive line hasn’t been awful in pass protection, and the offense moved well before the disaster of a Missouri game.

What’s Going To Happen

Fuller will get a chance to hit a kick.

Vanderbilt might be struggling through COVID issues as well as all the other things happening with the program, but it gets a reeling Tennessee team that can’t seem to do anything right.

However, Tennessee keeps on pressing. It’s not for a lack of effort – injuries and execution are an issue.

It’ll be a low-scoring slugfest with the Vols finally getting a moment of fun.

Georgia (6-2) vs Missouri (5-3) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Georgia Will Win

And there’s the running game.

South Carolina might be on fumes, but it was still an impressive performance by Georgia last week as it ripped through with its ground attack or a season-high 332 yards in the 45-16 win.

QB JT Daniels got the passing game going against Mississippi State the week before – there wasn’t any need to run it, but the eight yards against the Bulldogs were alarming – and then came last week’s dominance.

Missouri’s defense has been a rock for most of the year, but it also hasn’t faced a whole lot of teams that want to run the ball regularly – and efficiently.

The Tigers were hit from all sides in the 50-48 win over Arkansas last week – allowing 566 yards – and now comes the Georgia balance.

Week 15 College Schedule

Why Missouri Will Win

The Georgia secondary has been a problem.

The defense overall has been great – it’s the second-best in the SEC – and it doesn’t allow a whole slew of big plays, but teams are able to dink and dunk way too consistently.

Florida and Alabama each bombed away for over 400 yards, and Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi State all pushed past 200 yards.

Missouri QB Connor Bazelak keeps getting better and better, following up his 318-yard day against Vanderbilt with 380 against Arkansas. He’s not throwing a ton of touchdown passes – just five so far with four of those coming against LSU – but he’s also not throwing picks.

What’s Going To Happen

The Missouri defense will get back to form.

Georgia won’t run the ball like it did against South Carolina, Mizzou will control the clock and the tempo, and the offense will convert on every opportunity.

The Bulldogs will win – the defense will rise up when it has to – but the Tigers are 5-1 at home, and that one loss was a decent fight against Alabama to kick things off.

Alabama (9-0) vs. Arkansas (3-6) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Alabama Will Win

Nothing is stopping this thing.

The Crimson Tide just keep getting better and better, roaring against LSU with 650 yards last week in the 55-17 win, It’s not just that the games are dominant practices, it’s that they’re essentially over by halftime, if not sooner.

Arkansas might be playing better this year, but it’s on a three-game losing streak – including a loss to LSU – allowing close to 1,500 yards over those three games with no luck defensively in any phase.

The Hogs are struggling a bit to move the chains on third downs, and the offensive style doesn’t help at all in a game like this – the O can’t slow things down.

Arkansas is dead last in the SEC in time of possession. It can strike quickly, but keeping the Bama O off the field is a must. With no real pass rush, there’s going to be a problem.

Week 15 College Schedule

Why Arkansas Will Win

Bombs away.

The Arkansas defense doesn’t have the ability stop the Tide attack, but the offense has rolled whether or was Feleipe Franks under center, or KJ Jefferson, who got the start last week against Missouri and threw three touchdown passes and ran for a score.

The offense is efficient enough to at least make Alabama keep working, and the team has been great overall at not putting itself in a bad position with turnovers. The Hogs lead the SEC in turnover margin, giving it up just twice int eh last six games.

Arkansas has to be perfect, and …

What’s Going To Happen

Could Bama be just trying to get through this and move on as quickly as possible?

The program might be all about process and focus, but the battle with Florida for the SEC Championship the week after is all that truly matters. It’s going to be a tense game with everyone holding their breath that no one gets hurt before the big battle, and just as big a concern will be a plucky Hog team that will score just enough to make this interesting … at least for a little while.
