Steelers’ T.J. Watt gifts disabled veteran trip to Super Bowl LVIII

T.J. Watt teamed up with USAA and the DAV to send a military veteran and a guest to Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas.

Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt teamed up with USAA, the official NFL Salute to Service partner, and Disabled American Veterans to send a military veteran and a guest to Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas.

Adam Alexander, a decorated Army veteran residing near Watt’s hometown in Wisconsin, is the lucky honoree.

Alexander, a Green Bay Packers fan, has a decorated service history, which includes being awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Action Badge and the Army Commendation Medal with Valor.

“Being a professional football player requires strength, resiliency, and selflessness – all inspiring characteristics that Staff Sgt. Adam Alexander embodies,” said Watt. “I’m honored to team up with USAA and Disabled American Veterans to give Adam, a fellow Wisconsinite and national hero, the recognition he deserves, and I look forward to meeting him at the Super Bowl in Las Vegas.”

T.J. Watt, Miles Killebrew named to the PFWA All-NFL team

The Steelers landed two on the PFWA All-NFL team.

The Pro Football Writers of America put out their All-NFL team for the 2023 season and two members of the Pittsburgh Steelers made the cut. EDGE defender T.J. Watt made it for the fourth time and safety/special teams ace Miles Killebrew was named PFWA All-NFL for the first time.

Watt led the league in sacks in 2023. Watt finished with 19 sacks and is the first player to lead the league in sacks in three separate seasons since sacks have been counted as an official statistic.

Killebrew didn’t play much on defense but his contributions on social teams, in particular blocking kicks, made him elite among his peers.

Steelers EDGE T.J. Watt offers huge endorsement of Mike Tomlin

T.J. Watt doesn’t want to play for any coach but Tomlin.

Despite how badly many fans want him gone, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin isn’t going anywhere. Tomlin already told his team he plans to return and coach in 2024. We assume this was great news to players who all love playing for Tomlin. One guy who is glad Tomlin isn’t leaving is star outside linebacker T.J. Watt.

He made it very clear where he stands about Tomlin when he addressed the media the day after the team’s loss to the Buffalo Bills in the playoffs.

“I want to play for Mike T,” Watt said. “It was huge in my contract talks that I don’t want to play for anyone other than Mike T. You guys see the way I talk about how much I respect and appreciate him as a coach, man and leader.”

Regardless of how you feel about this team’s struggles in the playoffs, there is no doubt this is a team that wants to play for Tomlin. Why they don’t go out and play like that every week is a mystery but Watt and others seem fully committed to Tomlin and his way of doing business.

Steelers HC Mike Tomlin with rare Tweet to endose T.J. Watt for DPOY

Mike Tomlin might be a little biased but he’s a big fan of T.J. Watt.

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin doesn’t take to social media very often. So when he makes a post, we pay attention. Tomlin offered up a retweet on Friday of the official NFL account talking about the potential of outside linebacker T.J. Watt winning his second Defensive Player of the Year.

Watt casually had another landmark season in 2023 with 19 sacks. He is the first player in NFL history since sacks were tracked as an official stat to lead the league in sacks in three different seasons. In a year when there have been a handful of standout edge players, Tomlin made it clear he thinks Watt is the best.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem the rest of the league agrees. Pro Football Focus and the NFLPA both put out their All-Pro teams this week and left Watt off.

Steelers LB T.J. Watt named Week 18 Defensive Player of the Week

T.J. Watt had another huge game in Week 18 with two more sacks.

Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt was named Defensive Player of the Week for Week 18 of the NFL season. Watt finished with six tackles, two sacks and three tackles for loss as the Steelers beat the Baltimore Ravens 17-10 to help push the Steelers into the playoffs.

Watt finished the season with a league-leading 19 sacks. That is the third time in four seasons Watt has led the league in sacks. No other player has accomplished since the league started tracking sacks as an official stat.

In a somewhat related story, Watt was snubbed by both Pro Football Focus and the NFLPA for their All-Pro teams. It would be an interesting twist if Watt lands his second Defensive Play of the Year Award in his career but fails to be named an All-Pro.

PFF snubs Steelers LB T.J. Watt on All-Pro team

T.J. Watt wasn’t considered a Top Four edge rusher according to Pro Football Focus.

Pro Football Focus has put out their All-Pro teams for the 2023 NFL season and Pittsburgh Steelers fans aren’t going to be happy. No members of the Pittsburgh Steelers made the list including EDGE T.J. Watt. Not only did Watt not make the first-team All-Pro, but he didn’t even get the nod for the second team.

Here’s how the edge defenders shook out according to PFF.

First team

Myles Garrett – Cleveland Browns

Micah Parsons – Dallas Cowboys

Second team

Nick Bosa – San Francisco 49ers

Maxx Crosby – Las Vegas Raiders

Meanwhile, Watt led the league in sacks with 19 and was named Steelers MVP by his teammates. Watt is the frontrunner for Defensive Player of the Year but didn’t warrant consideration by PFF to be among the Top four edge rushers in the NFL.

NFL sack-leader T.J. Watt shouts-out those who made it ‘possible’

The NFL regular season has come to an end with another notch in the belt of Steelers defender T.J. Watt.

The NFL regular season has come to an end with another notch in the belt of Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt.

With 19 sacks, Watt is again the league’s sack leader for the third of four seasons. He’s the first player in history to do so in three separate seasons (2020, 2021, 2023).

Football is the ultimate team sport, and Watt couldn’t have done it alone.

“Not possible without my coaches and teammates,” Watt posted yesterday on X.

Despite having better overall statistics than his defensive counterpart Myles Garrett, Garrett remains the overwhelming favorite to win 2023 Defensive Player of the Year. A panel of Associated Press sportswriters decides the winner, and while it’s an individual award, they often take into account the overall team and defense.

Unfortunately, this could lead Watt to be runner-up, as the Cleveland Browns finished the regular season as the best defense in the league and dominated all season long.

DraftKings Sportsbook reflects odds for Garrett at -200 and Watt at +210.

It’s not set in stone that Garrett will be named Defensive Player of the Year, but it certainly doesn’t bode well for Watt. It’s not right, but as they say: It is what it is.

DPOY and league-wide honors will be announced at the NFL Honors Ceremony on February 8.

J.J. Watt says brother T.J. has Grade 2 MCL sprain

Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt suffered a knee injury in Saturday’s win over the Ravens.

Big Brother JJ Watt offered up some potentially good news about Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt and his MCL sprain. Reports have been flying about the severity of his injury with Watt now saying the best-case scenario is a Grade 2 MCL sprain and he should only need a couple of weeks of recovery.

This is in stark contrast to the report NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport put out early on Sunday that Watt had suffered an MCL tear. At this point we will probably have to wait until head coach Mike Tomlin addresses the media to get a clear diagnosis and a timetable for Watt’s return, should the Steelers make the playoffs.

Pittsburgh beat Baltimore on Saturday to improve to 10-7 on the season and keep the door slightly ajar for a shot at the playoffs. The Steelers defense would be much more effective if Watt could be on the field, should the playoffs become a reality.

Report: Steelers LB T.J. Watt suffered torn MCL

The news keeps getting worse for T.J. Watt and his knee injury.

We have an update on the injury suffered by Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt and the news is just getting worse. It was originally believed that Watt suffered an MCL sprain in Saturday’s win over the Baltimore Ravens but now, according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport, Watt’s injury is worse than expected and he has a torn MCL.

The Steelers are waiting around to find out their fate this season. The Steelers beat the Ravens to get their 10th win of the season but now must wait to see if the Tennessee Titans can beat the Jacksonville Jaguars or if the Miami Dolphins can win over the Buffalo Bills.

With this update about Watt’s injury, his season is over even if the Steelers find a way into the playoffs. Watt suffered the injury when he and teammate Montravius Adams ran into each other during Saturday’s game.
