Bears’ key losses that could spell the end of Matt Nagy Era, so far

Matt Nagy is likely out as Bears head coach at season’s end. Here’s a look at some of the key losses that contributed to his downfall.

During the Matt Nagy Era in Chicago, there has been many things to complain about. Whether it’s poor quarterback play, a lack of scoring, or just not showing up, there’s been an excuse for everything.

In 2021, the fans have turned their backs on Nagy and his time with the Bears is coming to an end. If things don’t turn around this season, here are the key losses that could spell the end of the Nagy Era, so far, dating back to 2019.

Bears open as 7.5-point home underdogs vs. Cardinals in Week 13

The Bears have opened as 7.5-point home underdogs against the Cardinals, per Tipico.

The Chicago Bears will host the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, where they’ll be looking to remain in the thick of the postseason hunt with an upset win.

The Bears have opened as 7.5-point home underdogs against the Cardinals, according to Tipico Sportsbook. The over/under is set at 44.5 points.

It’s not a surprise that the Bears are underdogs considering they’re about to go up against one of the best teams in the NFL who are about to get quarterback Kyler Murray and receiver DeAndre Hopkins back in the lineup for this game.

Chicago has been underdogs eight other times this season against the Rams, Browns, Raiders, Packers, Bucs, 49ers, Steelers and Ravens. The Bears have been favorites in Week 2 against the Bengals, Week 4 against the Lions and Week 12 against the Lions this season, all wins.

Can the Bears win two games in a row with an upset over the Cardinals? Or will Arizona send Chicago to yet another loss ahead of a prime-time showdown against the Green Bay Packers? We’ll see when the Bears and Cardinals kick things off Sunday at Noon on FOX.

Another ‘Fire Nagy’ chant has broken out at Bulls game

Eddie Jackson might want to look away. Another “Fire Nagy” chant has started at a Bulls game.

Bears fans have made their feelings about head coach Matt Nagy perfectly clear following the team’s second five-game losing streak after a Week 11 loss to the Ravens.

“Fire Nagy” chants were heard in the stands at Soldier Field. And while Chicago is coming off a Thanksgiving win over the winless Lions, it doesn’t sound like Bears fans are satisfied.

Another “Fire Nagy” chant has broken out at Monday’s Chicago Bulls game, and it shows no signs of slowing down.

On Monday, safety Eddie Jackson addressed the “Fire Nagy” chants that started at Soldier Field following Chicago’s loss to Baltimore, where he said it wasn’t helping matters.

“We hate it, honestly,” Jackson said. “The fans gotta understand, that’s not helping anything. Y’all want us to play better, do better, that’s not helping when you all sitting up there and chanting that. But I get it. The frustration, long-time Bears fans have been going through this for a long, long time, so I understand it, but it’s not helping the situation. I feel like it’s just making it worse.”

This isn’t the first time “Fire Nagy” chants have broken out at Chicago sporting events since the Ravens loss. They’ve been overheard at Bulls and Blackhawks games, as well as, unfortunately, Nagy’s son’s high school football game.

At this point, it’s just a matter of when the Bears will fire Nagy. But until that moment happens, Bears fans appear inclined to let their feelings known every chance they get.

Eddie Jackson has a message for Bears fans chanting ‘Fire Nagy’

Bears safety Eddie Jackson says the “Fire Nagy” chants aren’t helping. That might be true, but don’t expect them to stop.

At this point of the season it’s become clear that Bears head coach Matt Nagy is on his way out of Chicago. And Bears fans have made their frustrations clear as the team is trending in the wrong direction in Year 4.

While the crowd at Soldier Field has been no strangers to booing the team’s offensive struggles, they voiced their frustrations with a “Fire Nagy” chant after the team’s fifth straight loss.

Bears safety Eddie Jackson met with the media on Monday, where he addressed the “Fire Nagy” chants at Soldier Field after that Week 11 loss to the Ravens.

I feel like it’s just making it worse. We just continue to rally around each other and look upon ourselves to get this turned around and block out all the outside noise.”

While that may be the case, it doesn’t sound like those “Fire Nagy” chants are going to die down anytime soon — or at least until Nagy is fired. Those chants have been heard everywhere from Soldier Field to a Bulls game to a Blackhawks game and, even unfortunately, Nagy’s son’s high school football game.

And with the Arizona Cardinals coming to town — and a potential rough afternoon on the horizon — those “Fire Nagy” chants could sound loud again at Soldier Field.

Report: Bears expected to be most attractive head coaching job on the market

If the Bears part ways with Matt Nagy, the head coaching vacancy in Chicago is expected to be a prime landing spot.

While the Chicago Bears haven’t parted ways with head coach Matt Nagy yet, the expectation is, barring some kind of miraculous playoff surge, Nagy will be out as head coach at season’s end.

If that’s the case, it sounds like Chicago is a hot landing spot.

According to CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones, the Bears’ future head coaching vacancy — and potential general manager job — are expected to be the most attractive jobs on the market.

With more than a month left in the regular season, the Bears job — either one of them — seems like it’ll be the best one on the market. That’s the overwhelming response I’ve gotten from sources around the league and coaches and personnel execs gear up for a new hiring/firing cycle.

While Chicago might not seem like the most attractive landing spot — especially given the team’s struggles under Nagy — rookie quarterback Justin Fields is a big reason why. A talented young quarterback on a rookie deal and a solid core of young players, including Roquan Smith and Darnell Mooney, in place is certainly appealing.

There are already a handful of names linked to the Bears, including Byron Leftwich and Brian Daboll, although we’re still some time away from the beginning of a potential head coaching search.

A new NFL rule this season allows teams to start interviewing candidates two weeks before the end of the regular season, that is if the head coach that started the season has already been fired.

Right now, the only other head coaching vacancy is the Las Vegas Raiders after Jon Gruden was relieved of his duties earlier this season. Although, there are sure to be others to follow, including the Bears.

Whether it’s general manager Ryan Pace doing the hiring, we’ll soon find out.

Predicting Bears’ remaining schedule: How many wins in final 6 games?

With the Bears coming out of their mini bye week after a Thanksgiving win, we’re predicting Chicago’s final six games.

The Chicago Bears are standing at 4-7 after snapping a five-game losing streak with a last-second victory over the winless Detroit Lions in Week 12. And while this team doesn’t appear destined for the postseason, there’s plenty to watch in these final stretch of games.

With the Bears coming out of their mini bye week after a Thanksgiving win, we’re predicting Chicago’s final six games.

NFC North standings heading into Week 13

The division standings didn’t change for the NFC North this week. Here’s how it looks after Week 12.

Half of the NFC North had their games decided before Thanksgiving evening when the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions faced off to begin Week 12. Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings both faced NFC West opponents in the late afternoon window on Sunday as they vied for playoff positioning with just seven weeks to go in the NFL season.

While the playoff seedings are in flux, the division standings didn’t change for the NFC North. Here’s how it looks after week 12 of the NFL season.

4 reasons why the Bears should fire Matt Nagy mid-season

The Bears have never fired a head coach mid-season. But that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t start. Here’s why.

There was a ton of excitement surrounding the hiring of Bears head coach Matt Nagy in 2018. But following a 12-4 season, he followed it up with three straight disappointing seasons, which has many believing that it’s not a matter of if but when Nagy gets the axe in Chicago.

Nagy remains the head coach of the Bears, at least for right now, even amid speculation about his future and whether he’ll survive the 2021 season. The Bears have never fired a head coach mid-season, although there are reasons for why they should change that before season’s end.

Here are four reasons why the Bears should consider firing Nagy before the end of the season.

4 games Bears fans should watch during Week 12’s mini bye week

There’s no Bears football today, but there’s still plenty of NFL action to keep busy with in Week 12.

The Chicago Bears sit at 4-7 after a 16-14 victory over the winless Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving, snapping a five-game losing streak. And now, Bears fans can enjoy a Sunday and Monday of NFL action without worrying about their team.

With Chicago playing on Thursday, they have a mini bye week of sorts, which means there’s no Bears football this weekend. But there’s still plenty of NFL action to keep busy with, including some NFC North contests, future opponents and some high-profile contests.

Here’s a look at four games Bears fans should tune into during Week 12:

Hot Seat Watch: How hot is Matt Nagy’s seat after 11 games?

The Bears avoided a six-game losing streak with a victory over the winless Lions. But how hot is Matt Nagy’s seat after that win?

After one of the weirdest weeks in the Matt Nagy Era, the Chicago Bears snapped their five-game losing streak. The Bears beat the Detroit Lions 16-14 with a last-second field goal from Cairo Santos. This win makes Nagy 7-1 against the Lions in his coaching career.

A win over the Lions isn’t going to save Nagy’s job, though. It’s going to take more. Even after the two-point win on Thanksgiving, fans have continued with the “Fire Nagy” chants.

Most recently, on Friday. the United Center chanted “Fire Nagy” during the Chicago Blackhawks win against the Blues.

So, what was so weird about the past seven days? The firing rumors. Early last week it was reported that Nagy would be fired win or lose following the Bears’ Thanksgiving game. That is yet to happen, but the news took the football world by storm.

Many websites covered the news but were quickly backtracking after George McCaskey, the team’s chairman, came out in support of Nagy. That likely eliminates the possibility of a mid-season firing, but it isn’t going to be ruled out totally. With games against the Cardinals, Packers, and Vikings on the horizon, these rumors could become true.

Like always, Nagy’s hot seat will be on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the coolest and 10 being the hottest seat for Nagy.
