Bears’ updated 53-man roster for Week 18 vs. Packers

Here’s a look at the Bears’ roster heading into their Week 18 game vs. Packers.

The Chicago Bears (7-9) will battle the Green Bay Packers (8-8) in Week 18 on Sunday, where Chicago is looking to close out the 2023 season on a three-game winning streak.

The Bears are 3-point road underdogs heading into Sunday’s matchup against the Packers, according to BetMGM. The over/under is set at 45.

Here’s a look at the Bears’ 53-man game-day roster heading into their Week 18 game vs. Packers.

Bears place center Lucas Patrick on injured reserve

Lucas Patrick’s season is done as the Bears have placed him on IR ahead of Sunday’s game vs. Packers.

The Chicago Bears made a roster move that impacts the offensive line ahead of Sunday’s season finale against the Green Bay Packers.

The Bears have placed center Lucas Patrick on injured reserve, sidelining him for Sunday’s game.

Patrick appeared in 16 games this season, which included 15 starts, where he played primarily at center. He landed on the injury report Friday with a calf injury, and he was dubbed questionable against the Packers.

With Patrick sidelined, Chicago has a few options at center. The most likely replacement is Dan Feeney, who the team acquired ahead of the start of the season in a trade with the Miami Dolphins.

While veteran Cody Whitehair, who’s not in the starting lineup with Teven Jenkins and Nate Davis at guard, has experience at center, he had issues earlier this year in Patrick’s absence. Former fifth-round pick Doug Kramer, who was elevated from the practice squad, is also an option. But he’ll likely serve as a reserve.

Patrick is set to hit the free agent market this offseason, so he very well could’ve already played his final game with the Bears.

Bears Week 18 injury report: Jaylon Johnson doubtful, Cole Kmet questionable vs. Packers

The Bears have released their final injury report and game designations ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Packers.

The Chicago Bears (7-9) released their final injury report ahead of Sunday’s Week 18 game against the Green Bay Packers (8-8).

While cornerback Jaylon Johnson said earlier this week he expected to play against the Packers, he’s officially listed as doubtful after not practicing all week with a shoulder injury.

Wide receiver Darnell Mooney, who missed last week’s game with a concussion, remains in concussion protocol and has already been ruled out.

Chicago has five players who are questionable against the Packers: tight end Cole Kmet (knee), cornerback Kyler Gordon (calf), running back Khalil Herbert (back), center Lucas Patrick (calf) and long snapper Patrick Scales (foot).

The good news? Wide receiver DJ Moore (ankle) and backup quarterback Tyson Bagent (illness) practiced in full and have no injury designation for Sunday.

Podcast: Support for Justin Fields from fans, teammates should speak volumes

Ryan Poles can’t ignore the immense support Justin Fields has been receiving from teammates and fans. We discuss on The Bears Wire Podcast.

Justin Fields has an uncertain future with the Bears, one that’s about to kick into high gear heading into the offseason.

Chicago owns the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL draft (again), where general manager Ryan Poles needs to decide if he’s going to trade it or use it to draft a top quarterback prospect, like Caleb Williams.

Fields has made big improvements this season since returning from his thumb injury, and he’s. also garnered the support of teammates and fans alike. The Bears certainly appear to be building something special, and Fields is a big part of that. So why mess with a good thing?

Bears fans chanted “We want Fields!” Bears players have all but done the same. Is Poles listening?

Host Ryan O’Leary (@RyanO_Leary) and Alyssa Barbieri (@AlyssaBarbieri) talked Justin Fields’ statement performance, the Bears clinching the No. 1 overall pick and more during this week’s episode of the Bears Wire Podcast!

Bears players discuss the team’s ‘rare’ chemistry

The Bears appear to be on the cusp of something special as they close out the 2023 season.

The Chicago Bears appear to be on the cusp of something special as they close out the 2023 season.

Following a disastrous 1-5 start, the Bears have transformed into one of the NFC’s best teams winning five of their last seven games with a dominant defense and ascending offense.

While Chicago has already been eliminated from playoff contention, they have an opportunity to end this season on a high note with a win over the hated Green Bay Packers this Sunday and head into the offseason on a three-game winning streak.

“I think we’ve improved tremendously in all phases,” said quarterback Justin Fields. “That’s players and coaches. We’ve grown a lot as a team. Our chemistry has grown with each other. Excited to go out there and ball out.”

That chemistry has been a big part of the Bears’ turnaround, and it’s something they’re looking to carry into the 2024 season.

“You’ve got a bunch of guys in this locker room that’s now considering each other brothers,” said rookie cornerback Tyrique Stevenson. “We’re all definitely locked in and definitely understand that we all want one goal and that’s to win every single game that we go out there and play together.”

Fields faces an uncertain future as Chicago holds the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. But one of the things that could help convince Bears brass to stick with Fields — along with his improvement since returning from injury — is the team chemistry that’s developed this season.

“Just how tight-knit we are, how we’ve grown over the season, it feels like almost a college locker room where you pretty much live within a 10-minute radius of all the guys, you’re always hanging out and stuff like that,” Fields said.

“The chemistry that we have, the closeness that we have within our group is amazing to see and it’s rare in the NFL. So I’m definitely grateful for all of the relationships and connections I’ve made with all of my teammates this year, so it’s just been awesome.”

With the Bears building something special to close out the 2023 season, why not run it back in 2024?

Bears QB Justin Fields hilariously roasts Packers fans

Shots fired by Bears QB Justin Fields: “Their fans are gonna be loud because there’s not much to do in Green Bay except watch football.”

There’s no love lost between the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers.

These two teams, these two fanbases, they just don’t like each other. When the Bears and Packers play, it just means a little more — even for a team that’s dominated what’s been a one-sided rivalry.

As Chicago prepares to face Green Bay at Lambeau Field in the regular season finale, they have an opportunity to help knock their hated rivals out of the playoffs — not unlike what the Detroit Lions did to the Packers last year.

Bears quarterback Justin Fields added some fuel to the already-heated rivalry when he hilariously roasted Packers fans during his Wednesday press conference.

“Their fans are gonna be loud because there’s not much to do in Green Bay except watch football,” Fields said.

This isn’t the first time this season a Bears player has taken a shot at the Packers faithful. Defensive tackle Justin Jones called Green Bay fans “s—-y,” “obnoxious” and said “half of them don’t even know football.”

Bears fans loved it. Packers fans obviously didn’t.

Still, it’s safe to say the Lambeau Field crowd is going to have some choice words — including boos — for Fields come Sunday afternoon.

Bears Week 18 injury report: Jaylon Johnson, Cole Kmet DNP Wednesday

Here’s a look at the Bears’ Week 18 injury report following Wednesday’s practice:

The Chicago Bears (7-9) released their first injury report ahead of Sunday’s Week 18 game against the Green Bay Packers (8-8).

The Bears had five players sidelined for Wednesday’s practice, including cornerback Jaylon Johnson (shoulder) and tight end Cole Kmet (knee). Johnson suffered a shoulder injury in the first half of last week’s win against the Atlanta Falcons. While Kmet did play in that game, he wasn’t involved much as he continues to battle a knee injury suffered in Week 16.

Elsewhere, long snapper Patrick Scales is dealing with a foot injury, wide receiver Darnell Mooney remains in concussion protocol and quarterback Tyson Bagent is dealing with an illness.

Wide receiver DJ Moore was limited with an ankle injury.
