The Top 30 players at the Olympic basketball tournament

HoopsHype ranks the Top 25 basketball players at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, based on perceived FIBA value.

We go from the NBA Finals almost immediately to Olympic basketball in basically no time at all.

There are quite a few star-level absences from global lineups this year (there will only be seven All-Stars and just three players who made All-NBA this year participating), but there’s still quite a good amount of talent competing in the Games for basketball this summer, perhaps even more than many were expecting due to the quick turnaround from the NBA season to the Olympics.

So we decided to rank the Top 30 players competing at the Tokyo Olympic basketball tournament.

Before we get started, we wanted to make clear that we factored in perceived FIBA value a bit into the ranking, which will explain why some guys who are role players in the NBA but stars in international competitions are ranked where they are.

Let’s get into it.

Playoff MVP Race: Giannis Antetokounmpo is the runaway No. 1

For the final time, HoopsHype ranks the top players in the playoff MVP race, headlined by Giannis Antetokounmpo being named playoff MVP.

With the culmination of the campaign, the time has come for the final 2020-21 NBA Playoff MVP Rankings article of our ongoing series, where we ranked the Top 15 players in the postseason MVP race weekly.

It should come as no surprise whatsoever who finished at the top of the list, or the players who finished just behind him, as the Milwaukee Bucks and Phoenix Suns were great all playoffs long and were led by their respective superstars to the Finals.

Below, check out the final part of our playoff MVP series, as voted on by our team of writers.

2013 NBA re-draft: The way it should have been

The 2013 NBA Draft is best known for the historical bust selected at No. 1 overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers, Anthony Bennett.

But looking back, the draft class ended up being pretty solid, with a two-time league MVP falling to 15th in Giannis Antetokounmpo, an elite bucket-getter falling to 10th in CJ McCollum, an All-Star 2-guard being taken second overall in Victor Oladipo and a multi-time Defensive Player of the Year in Rudy Gobert going 27th overall.

If we were to re-draft that whole class, those four players would certainly be the Top 4 selections in some order.

Below, we re-draft the 2013 NBA Draft the way it should have been.

2012 NBA re-draft: The way it should have been

It was merely nine years ago when the Golden State Warriors got away with one of the biggest draft heists in recent NBA history, landing Draymond Green, the 2017 Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time champion, with the No. 35 pick.

Of course, even Golden State had no idea what they were getting in Green, considering even they passed on him at pick 30, where they went with Festus Ezeli instead. Even so, that’s great work by the Warriors getting such a steal in the second round.

The top pick that year, Anthony Davis, has definitely reached his massive potential, while Damian Lillard, the No. 6 pick, has surpassed expectations.

Below, we re-draft the 2012 class in the order we think they should have gone in.

Playoff MVP Race: Paul George finishes in Top 3

HoopsHype ranks the Top 15 players in the 2020-21 NBA Playoff MVP Race, with Paul George exiting in the Top 3.

With the NBA Finals set to tip tonight, we have arrived at one of our final 2020-21 playoff MVP rankings pieces, with a familiar name at the top but a new one, formerly ridiculed for hyping up his own postseason exploits, exiting the playoffs at No. 3.

2011 NBA re-draft: The way it should have been

The 2011 NBA draft wound up having a good amount of high-level talent in it, though it came from places not many were expecting.

Overall, that class has had seven players turn into All-Stars, but interestingly enough, only one of them was taken among the Top-8 selections, and that was Kyrie Irving, who went No. 1 overall.

The top player to come out of that draft, Kawhi Leonard, went 15th overall that year, three-time champion and elite sharpshooter Klay Thompson went 11th overall and two-way swingman Jimmy Butler fell all the way to 30th overall.

Below, we re-draft the 2011 class in the order we believe they should have gone in.

Playoff MVP Race: Khris Middleton making strides

HoopsHype ranks the Top 15 players in the 2020-21 NBA Playoff MVP Race, with Khris Middleton making his debut on the list.

With the 2021 NBA Finals fast approaching and a new superstar guaranteed to get their first ring this year, the playoff MVP race has never been so hotly contested.

This week, we even have a proven All-Star playing for arguably the top contender remaining making his debut in this ranking series.

2010 NBA re-draft: The way it should have been

Injuries and certain players failing to live up to expectations turned the 2010 class into one of the weaker ones in the last decade.

The 2010 NBA Draft had some serious potential, but injuries and certain players flat-out failing to live up to expectations turned that class into one of the weaker ones in the last decade.

Currently, just one player drafted in 2010 can be considered a legitimate star, and that’s Paul George, who was drafted 10th overall by the Indiana Pacers.

John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins, taken first and fifth that draft respectively, were at that level when healthy, but both have been injured for quite some time – and there are legitimate questions about whether or not they’ll ever find that elite form again.

Besides those three, Gordon HaywardEric Bledsoe and Derrick Favors have also turned into very productive pros, as has Hassan Whiteside, who fell to the second round that draft.

Below, we re-draft the 2010 class the way it should have gone.

2009 NBA re-draft: The way it should have been

The 2009 NBA Draft possessed some serious firepower, though, in hindsight, it wasn’t selected in the proper order.

The 2009 NBA Draft possessed some serious firepower, though, in hindsight, it wasn’t selected in the proper order.

The actual No. 1 pick that year, Blake Griffin, has enjoyed a very successful career, including five All-NBA selections, but injuries have prevented him from reaching an even higher level. What’s more, that year’s No. 2 and No. 4 picks, Hasheem Thabeet and Tyreke Evans, aren’t even in the NBA anymore, though for very different reasons.

Thabeet being taken over James Harden, a future league MVP, and Evans being taken over Stephen Curry, a league-changing talent and two-time MVP, are borderline indefensible decisions a decade later.

Below, we re-draft the 2009 class the way it should have gone.

Playoff MVP Race: Despite elimination, Kevin Durant takes top spot (for now)

HoopsHype ranks the Top 15 players in the 2020-21 NBA Playoff MVP Race, with Kevin Durant taking the top spot this week despite elimination.

With the Atlanta Hawks joining the Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks in the Conference Finals, we have adjusted our MVP rankings, just maybe not in the way you might think.

That’s because a player who was recently eliminated just took the top spot in our aggregate ranking, despite the fact we won’t be seeing him again until, reportedly, the Olympics.
