Studs and duds from the 2022 Pro Bowl

Here are our studs and duds from the 2022 Pro Bowl.

The NFL’s annual all-star game has finally devolved into a slopfest. In the first half alone, the quarterbacks threw six interceptions. Fans were also treated to drops, missed cues and no tackling effort at all. In the end the AFC beat the NFC, winning by a score of 41-35.

Here are our studs and duds from the 2022 Pro Bowl.

2022 Pro Bowl: Russell Wilson throws game’s sixth interception of first half

Russell Wilson has the latest.

Turns out nobody is taking the 2022 Pro Bowl seriously, least of all the quarterbacks. With the exception of the Chargers’ rising star Justin Herbert, the QBs who have taken the field have all been extremely careless with the ball, resulting in a flurry of ugly turnovers.

The tone was set early by Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, whose first pass of the game was deflected and nearly picked off by Maxx Crosby of the Raiders. Murray ended that possession with a pick-six to Colts linebacker Darius Leonard, anyway. With a few minutes to go in the first half, both teams have combined for six interceptions. Russell Wilson has the latest.

That’s Wilson’s second pick of the game, but the first was not his fault. That  pass was deflected off the hands of 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk.

Anyway, if this is the way the Pro Bowl is going to be played the NFL would be better off just cancelling the whole thing. Embrace the skills competitions and add more of them.

Update:

The AFC leads 28-21 at halftime.

Russell Wilson robbed of touchdown by 2 drops from NFC team at 2022 Pro Bowl

The AFC leads the NFC 14-13 going into the second quarter.

Sometimes there’s only so much a quarterback can do. Seahawks star Russell Wilson is going through it today at the 2022 Pro Bowl. Wilson is the third NFC QB to make an appearance in the game after Kyler Murray and Kirk Cousins both threw interceptions.

Wilson led a drive into the red zone but came up with nothing thanks to a couple of drops from his receivers.

First, Justin Jefferson of the Vikings dropped a pass that hit him in the numbers.

Then, 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk had one bounce off his fingertips and into the hands of Patriots cornerback J.C. Jackson.

Two of them are free agents and could leave or not be re-signed.

They took a photo with all five players in it that the team released on its social media accounts.

Could this be the last photo of all five of these players on the same team?

Jones and Conner will be free agents in March.

Will all return? Will Conner and Jones land elsewhere? Will one re-sign and the other leave?

LOOK: Robert Quinn, Jakeem Grant representing Bears at Pro Bowl

Here’s a look at Bears EDGE Robert Quinn and RS Jakeem Grant at Pro Bowl practice.

While there wasn’t much to celebrate during the Bears’ 2021 season, there were some impressive individual performances that certainly have the future looking bright.

Edge rusher Robert Quinn and wide receiver/return specialist Jakeem Grant were both named to the Pro Bowl for their impressive seasons, where they proved to be among the best at their positions.

Quinn recorded a single-season franchise record 18.5 sacks, where he registered at least half a sack in 14 of 16 games he played. He recorded 13 sacks in the final nine games. He also totaled 49 tackles and 17 tackles-for-loss, a team-high. It was a sensational bounce-back season after a rough first year in 2020, where Quinn totaled just two sacks.

Grant was a late addition to the roster in an Oct. 5 trade with the Dolphins, but he made an immediate impact as a return specialist. In 11 games with the Bears, Grant averaged 11.9 yards per return, third in the NFL, with one touchdown on 26 returns. He also averaged 23.4 yards per kickoff return on 23 returns, which ranked 11th.

With Pro Bowl week in full swing, the Bears Twitter account shared a look at Quinn and Grant both in Las Vegas for Pro Bowl practice on Thursday:

The 2022 Pro Bowl will be played Sunday, Feb. 6 in Las Vegas at Allegiant Stadium.

Duane Brown to take the place of Trent Williams in 2022 Pro Bowl

Left tackle Duane Brown will be taking the place of Trent Williams of the 49ers.

The Seahawks had two players initially selected to play in the 2022 Pro Bowl. Both Bobby Wagner and Quandre Diggs will be unable to play due to injuries, though. However, Seattle is still going to get two representatives in the annual NFL all-star game thanks to alternates.

Earlier today, the team announced that Russell Wilson would be replacing Tom Brady on the NFC roster due to an injury for the Bucs quarterback. Now, the Seahawks have announced another injury replacement. Left tackle Duane Brown will be taking the place of Trent Williams of the 49ers.

Widely regarded as the best left tackle in the league, Williams only allowed one sack, six quarterback hits and 16 hurries all season. He also earned the highest run blocking grade among offensive linemen from Pro Football Focus by a wide margin.

Brown had an off-year by his high standards but is still one of the better left tackles in football. This will be the fifth Pro Bowl appearance in Brown’s career and his second with Seattle.

D.J. Humphries becomes first Cardinals O-lineman to make Pro Bowl since 2015

Humphries is named an injury replacement for Dallas’ Tyron Smith. He is the first Cardinals tackle to make the Pro Bowl since Lomas Brown.

Arizona Cardinals left tackle D.J. Humphries is a Pro Bowler for the first time in his career. After getting selected as Pro Bowl alternate at tackle when the NFC and AFC rosters were first announced, he will take the trip and make the first appearance of his career.

The Cardinals announced he was named to the NFC Pro Bowl squad as an injury replacement for Dallas Cowboys tackle Tyron Smith.

With the announcement, he becomes the first Cardinals offensive lineman to make a Pro Bowl since guard Mike Iupati did in 2015 and first tackle since Lomas Brown was selected in 1996.

Humphries did not have his best season but arguably should have made the team last season.

He is one of five Cardinals who will represent the NFC. He joins quarterback Kyler Murray, running back James Conner, linebacker Chandler Jones and safety Budda Baker.

The game is this Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas at Allegiant Stadium.
