Watch: Detroit Lions Podcast Senior Bowl setup show

The latest live stream from the Detroit Lions Podcast sets up the Senior Bowl as well as Lions coaching and player personnel topics

Friday night isn’t normally when the Detroit Lions Podcast goes live with the weekly broadcast, but this week was a worthy exception.

It’s about to be Senior Bowl week, and that’s the unofficial kickoff of NFL draft season. We’re headed there once again for live coverage from Mobile. This will be my 14th year and the 5th for Chris, and we’ll be live on radio row.

This episode breaks down what we’re watching during the practices and what happens during the week, including the unusual access to scouts, players and NFL decision-makers. What have we learned about the Lions from last year’s Senior Bowl, when the team ran one of the squads?

There’s some discussion on potential players, as well as some possible coaching tweaks that are coming for Detroit. Aaron Glenn remains a candidate for the Arizona Cardinal head coaching position, and we go through what might happen if Glenn leaves too.

PODCAST: Are there only 2 real HC candidates for Cardinals?

Listen to the latest edition of the podcast following Sean Payton’s interview with the Cardinals.

Sean Payton was in town Thursday for an all-day interview with the Arizona Cardinals. Frank Reich was hired by the Carolina Panthers and Dan Quinn returns to the Cowboys to be their DC for another season. The betting odds for the Cardinals’ next head coach have shifted to show only two likely candidates.

What does this all mean?

I discuss that in this latest edition of the podcast, a solo show.

Some good questions on DJ Chark, where to prioritize RB and WR in the draft, Senior Bowlers to watch, draft hits and misses and more

This week’s edition of the Detroit Lions Podcast took on a different form. Due to logistical constraints, we are unable to do a live show. So instead, I did a video mailbag session with questions from members of the show’s Patreon Slack channel.

This edition covers a wide variety of topics, many of them draft-centric. Among the questions broken down:

  • Drafting a wide receiver
  • Where to prioritize a running back
  • What happens with DJ Chark
  • My biggest hits and misses as an evaluator
  • NIL and its impact on draft declarations
  • Senior Bowl players to know for Lions fans heading into next week

This week we’re working through some frustrations as the New Orleans Saints take their sweet time addressing what went wrong in 2022, and taking a bit of a look ahead at what’s in store for 2023. We’re also touching on the ongoing Sean Payton sweepstakes, with the Saints’ inactivity allowing Payton to dominate the news cycle. This episode was recorded prior to New Orleans’ controversial decision to hang onto offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael, which we’ll touch on next week.

Detroit Lions Podcast: The Ben Johnson coaching episode

The Detroit Lions Podcast breaks down all things Ben Johnson and the Lions coaching staff potential and options

The week after wild card weekend has been a super one for the Detroit Lions. Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson announced on Tuesday night that he was eschewing the opportunity to further interview for the head coaching position with the Carolina Panthers on Wednesday and also declared he was not seeking any other positions.

That’s incredible news for the Lions, and we celebrated Johnson’s decision on the latest edition of the Detroit Lions Podcast. Host Chris had adamantly insisted that Johnson was not leaving the Lions, and he was proven correct.

We broke down why Johnson would choose to stay and what it says about the current state of the Lions. The NFC North now runs through Detroit and Johnson’s return is part of that proclamation.

There is also discussion of Aaron Glenn as a head coaching candidate for some other teams, and why he would appeal as the leader of a team even though his results as the Lions’ defensive coordinator have not been stellar. Who else might get lured away or promoted on the coaching staff in the next year? Would the Lions look outside the organization?

We also spend some time talking about former Lions head coach Jim Schwartz landing in Cleveland as the new defensive coordinator of the Browns and the dynamic he offers that team.

We also go into detail about the search for a head coach, discussing new names that came up Tuesday — Frank Reich, Ejiro Evero and the candidates we already know in Sean Payton, Vance Joseph, DeMeco Ryans and Brian Flores.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have endured a frustrating regular season, but they still managed to win the NFC South for the second straight year, earning them a return trip to the playoffs as the No. 4 seed in the NFC.

In this week’s episode of the Bucs Wire podcast, host Ryan O’Leary and Bucs Wire editor Luke Easterling break down what Tampa Bay needs to do to advance past the first week of the postseason:
