2023 NFL Draft grades: Experts hand out grades for the Eagles

We’re looking around the league and gauging how the experts graded the Philadelphia Eagles’ 2023 NFL draft haul.

The 2023 NFL draft is a wrap, as the rich continue to get richer in Philadelphia.

The Eagles entered the draft with six selections, including the tenth and 30th overall pick and a second and third-rounder.

After GM Howie Roseman made seven trades.

Here’s a look at the Eagles’ draft picks:

1st, No. 9: DT Jalen Carter, Georgia
1st, No. 30: LB Nolan Smith, Georgia
2nd, No. 65: OL Tyler Steen, Alabama
3rd, No. 66: S Sydney Brown, Illinois
4th, No. 105: CB Kelee Ringo, Georgia
6th, No. 188: QB Tanner McKee
7th, No. 249: DT Moro Ojomo, Texas

The draft experts have weighed in, and Philadelphia gets the crown.

Eagles’ Jalen Hurts lands at No. 1 in a PFF ranking of NFC quarterbacks after first wave of NFL free agency

Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro quarterback Jalen Hurts landed at No. 1 in a Pro Football Focus ranking of NFC quarterbacks after the first wave of NFL free agency

Time changes everything, and as the 2023 NFL season fast approaches, there’s a new hierarchy in the NFC at the quarterback position.

Tom Brady has retired, Aaron Rodgers is on his way to the AFC, and Jalen Hurts will shortly reset the quarterback pay scale after an All-Pro season and MVP runner-up.

The first wave of NFL free agency is complete, and Philadelphia will look entirely different on defense after losing seven key contributors.

Things will be fine, though, as the Eagles’ offense remains intact, and the quarterback continues to improve.

In the ranking from PFF, Hurts landed at No.1 on the list for NFC quarterbacks, and he’s the only signal caller lumped in with the talented AFC group of passers.

AS ELITE AS THE AFC
Jalen Hurts
We can debate how much of last season’s success was down to Hurts’ development with another year in the NFL or the improvement in his supporting cast — the A.J. Brown addition and the best offensive line in football (among others) — but he was getting MVP buzz for much of the year, something that seems unlikely for almost any other NFC player. Hurts has been a dynamic rushing threat for the Philadelphia Eagles, and his development as a passer has been significant. His PFF passing grade has gone from 57.5 in Year 1 to 69.2 in Year 2 and finally 83.8 in Year 3 on his way to a Super Bowl. If the Eagles maintain a competitive team around him, there’s no reason to think Hurts can’t back up his 2022 performance, and he may not be done improving.

Hurts finished ahead of Kyler Murray (Cardinals), Matthew Stafford (Rams), Kirk Cousins (Vikings) and
Dak Prescott (Cowboys).

There’s a new big man on campus in the NFC, and he’ll be atop the rankings for years to come.

Full 7-round Eagles 2023 mock draft: post-NFL scouting combine

Philadelphia stacked up on impact defenders in the Eagles Wire’s latest 2023 NFL mock draft ahead of NFL free agency and post-NFL Scouting Combine

We’re a little less than six days away from the NFL offseason officially starting with the beginning of a new league year on March 15.

With eyes looking towards the start of free agency, Philadelphia is among a few teams with multiple first-round picks in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Using a PFF draft simulator and avoiding any trades in this second run-through, the Eagles addressed several needs with their six picks in the selection process.

Eagles have 13 players make the PFF Top 101 players of 2022

Pro Football Focus released their top 101 players of 2022 and the Philadelphia Eagles had 13 players make the list

The 2023 NFL offseason has begun and as the Eagles and 31 other teams start preparing for the NFL scouting combine, Pro Football Focus released their annual 101 best players from the 2022 season.

Here is the criteria from PFF.

• This list is based solely on play in 2022. Past or future play is not accounted for. This isn’t about class or talent; it’s about performance throughout the 2022 NFL season.

• This list is created with an “all positions are created equal” mantra. So, you won’t see 32 quarterbacks heading the list, even though that is the game’s most valuable position. Instead, we take a look at how guys played relative to what is expected from their position.

• Unlike PFF’s awards, the 101 factors in the postseason, so some players who won PFF awards may find themselves jumped in the 101 by rivals who had a playoff run worthy of a change in ranking.

Looking to avoid any conflict with the NFL Network’s Top 100 players list, Sam Monson of PFF utilized both film and analytical data to rank the 101 best players from the 2022 season and Philadelphia led the charge with 13 players.

PFF: Eagles’ biggest offseason need is depth at the cornerback position

PFF recently looked at the biggest offseason need for all 32 NFL teams and depth at cornerback was the biggest need for the Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles and 31 other teams around the league are diligently prepping for the NFL draft, and before that, NFL free agency.

Howie Roseman’s club has 18 pending free agents, and an All-Pro quarterback looking for a contract extension after finally earning franchise signal-caller status.

Philadelphia will have several needs entering the 2023 NFL season, but PFF believes cornerback depth is currently the most pressing concern.

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES: CORNERBACK DEPTH
Signing James Bradberry for pennies on the dollar was one of the shrewdest moves the Eagles made last offseason. They were able to snare another team’s cap casualty and bring in an impact player for a bargain price.

They could tie Bradberry to a much more lucrative contract, but if they value his low cost, cornerback becomes an area of need. Bradberry allowed just 46.8% of the passes thrown into his coverage to be caught this season for a passer rating of 51.4.

Philadelphia still has Darius Slay under contract, along with Avonte Maddox as starters heading into the offseason and free agency.

The Eagles also have Mario Goodrich, Josh Jobe, Zech McPhearson, and Josiah Scott on the current roster.

The Eagles moved to 13-2 on the season after a Christmas Eve loss to the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium.

The Birds can still clinch the No. 1 seed – Philadelphia needs to win just one of the final two games to clinch the NFC East, the No. 1 seed, the first-round bye, and home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs.

The Eagles are battered and a bit flustered after an ugly performance that was buoyed by four turnovers on offense, and an inability to get off the field on third downs as a defense.

Gardner Minshew was 24-40 for 355 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions in place of an injured Jalen Hurts.

Minshew also had one rushing touchdown on the afternoon but was credited with one lost fumble as well.

With the team pivoting towards Week 17, here are the best and worst performers according to PFF.

Eagles’ PFF grades: Best and worst performers from 25-20 win over Bears

Here are the Best and worst PFF grades from the Philadelphia Eagles’ 25-20 win over the Chicago Bears in Week 15

The Eagles moved to 13-1 on the season after surviving a tough Bears team on the road in Chicago on Sunday.

All is not well though, as quarterback Jalen Hurts suffered a shoulder strain, and could miss two weeks of the final three regular-season contests.

Philadelphia pass rushers battered Justin Fields all afternoon and its no shock that the two highest-grade players were edge rushers according to PFF.

Eagles’ PFF grades: Best and worst performers from win over Colts

Here are the Best and worst PFF grades from the Philadelphia Eagles’ 17-16 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 11

The Eagles are set to begin preparation for a Week 12 matchup against the Packers after escaping Indianapolis with a 17-16 win over the Colts.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts once again made winning plays at critical junctions of the game. Philadelphia’s defense rebounded from their Monday night disaster to contain Jonathan Taylor and the Colts’ offense.

The Week 11 grades are out via PFF, and the top performer has been with the team just three days before such an efficient and physical performance.
