7 players Titans should target for trade ahead of deadline

Shaun Calderon lists seven players (and some honorable mentions) the Titans should target ahead of the trade deadline.

The November 1st NFL trade deadline is rapidly approaching as fans of the Tennessee Titans and across the league scour their social media timelines in hopes that their team makes a significant addition to improve its roster.

The Titans may be winners of four straight games, but things have hardly been ideal. The team has struggled with consistency in multiple positions, most notably at wide receiver and offensive line.

This article is going to include seven players from across the league that the Titans should be interested in. At the very least, Tennessee should be calling about several of these players and gauging their availability, as well as their price tag.

Before we move on, we want to emphasize that these are purely speculative and there is no imminent trade on the horizon with any of these talented players.

With all that said, let’s take a closer look at the seven possible trade targets for the Tennessee Titans.

PFF suggests Titans trade for Steelers WR Chase Claypool

While the Titans should have interest in Claypool, the package PFF has them sending to Pittsburgh is too much.

The Tennessee Titans desperately need help in their wide receivers corps., and that’s true even after their injured wideouts return.

With the NFL trade deadline looming on Nov. 1, Pro Football Focus’ Michael Renner laid out some trade scenarios for multiple teams, and in one of them he has the Titans acquiring wideout Chase Claypool from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Here’s what he had to say about the deal that has the Titans sending the Steelers two picks, including a 2023 second-rounder and 2024 third-rounder.

Claypool has reportedly been at the center of trade talks for the Steelers following their 2-5 start. He’s fallen out of favor a touch with the emergence of rookie George Pickens. With a year and a half left on his rookie contract, Claypool could still fetch a hefty deal on the open market.

At 6-foot-4 and 238 pounds, Claypool also fits the ethos of the Titans’ offense. He’s a big-bodied, big catch-radius receiver who can work the middle of the field while also stretching the field. That’s what Tennessee hoped Treylon Burks could be out the gate, but the rookie has taken a while to get going.

A 2020 second-round pick of the Steelers, Claypool posted an impressive rookie campaign in 2020, reeling in 62 catches for 873 yards and nine touchdowns.

The Notre Dame product then went on to tally 860 yards and two scores in 15 games last season. In 2022, Claypool is on pace to have the lowest production output of his career, as he’s on pace for 646 yards.

In Claypool’s defense, the Steelers have been a mess at quarterback — and on offense in general — pretty much since he came into the league.

Ben Roethelisberger was decent in 2020 but stunk in 2021, and the Steelers’ offense as a whole has been a disaster in 2022. Claypool isn’t blameless in all this, but it’s hard to blame his declining production totally on him.

As much as I would love the addition of a speedy, 6-foot-4, 238-pound receivers who is only 24 years old and has one more year left on his rookie deal after 2022, Renner’s package is just too much to give up.

After all, Claypool’s stock is likely at an all-time low, as he’s fallen to No. 3 in the wideout pecking order. That alone will limit the return Pittsburgh gets for him, although I could see a return of a third-round pick at most.

While there is no evidence the Titans are interested in such a trade, the team should be willing to part with a third-round pick if such a scenario for a high-upside player like Claypool presents itself.

Claypool is a big-bodied target who can be a threat in the red zone, and he can work the middle of the field as well as be a deep threat. He checks multiple boxes Tennessee needs to check.

If it costs a third-rounder, sign me up. This is exactly the kind of impact move Tennessee needs to make if it wants to compete for more than just a division crown.

One player each NFL team could trade before the deadline, from Chase Claypool to Melvin Gordon

Ahead of the NFL trade deadline, here are some players who could be on the move, including Chase Claypool, Melvin Gordon and Elijah Moore.

The NFL’s trade deadline is fast approaching, and there have already been some players on the move. That includes the Carolina Panthers recently dealing running back Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers and receiver Robbie Anderson to the Arizona Cardinals.

There are a number of contending teams that could be looking to shore up an area of weakness as they aim to make a postseason run. Not to mention, there are a number of struggling teams looking to sell some big-name players to acquire additional draft capital.

Ahead of the Nov. 1 deadline, let’s look at some other players who might be on the move, with one from every NFL team, as assembled by our NFL Wires staff.

Should Titans inquire about trade for Pats WR Kendrick Bourne?

The Titans should be looking to add a wide receiver ahead of the trade deadline and Kendrick Bourne could be available.

It’s no secret that the Tennessee Titans’ wide receivers room isn’t exactly a group of world-beaters at the moment.

This unit could use all the help it can get, especially with the recent loss of rookie wideout Treylon Burks, who is out at least three more games due to a turf toe injury.

Naturally, any competent receiver that’s rumored to be on the trading block is going to intrigue a large portion of this fanbase.

That’s exactly what happened when a ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that multiple teams have been inquiring about the availability of New England Patriots wide receiver Kendrick Bourne.

The New England pass-catcher has had a pedestrian campaign thus far, catching only 11 passes for 156 yards through the first six weeks of the season.

Bourne’s overall role within the offense is seemingly diminishing by the week. He has only been targeted once per game over the last two games, while also appearing in just six percent of the offense’s snaps in Week 6.

Also, according to the Sports Info Solutions data, the Eastern Washington Product is currently the fourth-most targeted wide receiver on his own team behind Jakobi Meyers, Devante Parker, and Nelson Agholor.

This is an extremely shocking development considering the Oregon native had a career year just a season ago. Bourne set and/or tied his career-highs in receptions (55), yards (800), and touchdowns (five) during his first season in New England.

It remains to be seen how serious the Patriots are about potentially moving on from Bourne. However, a deal seems realistically possible from the outside looking in, and the Titans should be interested.

The veteran wideout signed a reasonable three-year, $15 million deal with the Pats last offseason. However, he only has about a season and a half of that deal remaining.

The Titans would be on the hook for what’s left of Bourne’s $3.5 million 2022 base salary, and if things don’t work out, the Titans can get out of Bourne’s 2023 $4.75 million base salary with a $1.4 million dead cap charge.

The expected trade compensation is most likely going to be something equivalent to a mid-to-late-round pick(s). It should also be noted that Tennessee is already short of a fourth-round selection next spring.

Therefore, if they’re going to part ways with another mid-to-late-round pick, they have to do everything possible to make sure they make the most out of the trade, especially when the middle rounds seem to be where the team has the most success when it comes to identifying talent through the draft.

Should a move like this occur, it wouldn’t be the first time Jon Robinson makes a significant in-season move to help a deficient position group. Most recently back in 2020, the Titans exchanged a sixth-round pick to the Los Angeles Chargers for disgruntled cornerback Desmond King.

Before the deal, King’s name had been rumored in trade discussions, similarly to the way that Bourne’s name is being brought up now.

If the Titans decide to make a move for the sixth-year wideout, they have to make sure they’re confident in their ability to maximize his talents to the fullest potential.

These draft picks are more than one-year investments. You can’t be throwing them away out of desperation unless you’re completely sold on the player you’re getting and/or the potential value is way too good to pass up.

If Tennessee feels it has a legitimate present and future with Bourne, then by all means, the team should be doing everything possible to explore a fair trade for all parties involved.

5 takeaways from the Eagles standing pat at the NFL trade deadline

The Philadelphia Eagles didn’t make any significant moves at the NFL trade deadline, here are five takeaways from the organization choosing to not be buyers or sellers

The NFL trade deadline came and went and despite the Eagles being mentioned as possible buyers and sellers, Howie Roseman stood pat with his team in the playoff hunt.

Philadelphia (3-5) faces the Chargers and Broncos over the next two weeks and will tread towards the easiest portion of their schedule with sights on the 7th seed in the NFC.

Here are five takeaways from Howie Roseman and the Eagles not making any moves.

Multiple teams interested in acquiring Eagles DT Fletcher Cox

NFL trade rumors: Multiple teams interest in acquiring Philadelphia Eagles DT Fletcher Cox

The Eagles are in the hunt for a wild card playoff birth, and even as the team starts preparation for a matchup with the Chargers, teams from around the league are inquiring about landing star defensive tackle Fletcher Cox in a deal.

Jay Glazer’s report follows an earlier report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who first reported that AFC organization had taken interest.

The Eagles restructured Cox’s contract this offseason, but a trade would leave a huge dead cap hit for Philadelphia, so the compensation would have to be outstanding.

Through 8 starts this season, Cox has 12 tackles, a sack, four quarterback hits, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown, while helping Javon Hargrave get out to a historic start as well.

Here are a few takeaways from the news.

NFL trade rumors: Andre Dillard to stay with Eagles barring major offer at deadline

Eagles expected to hold onto left tackle Andre Dillard barring a last-minute offer from a team needing depth

The NFL trade deadline is just three hours away and with the Eagles sitting at 3-5 on the season, they’re likely to proceed with the roster as it stands.

According to Mike Kaye of NJ Advanced Media, Philadelphia is expected to retain Dillard as the team’s backup left tackle, barring a late-minute offer.

The 2019 first-round pick, Dillard played well in relief of an injured Jordan Mailata and continued to shine while Mailata was at right tackle for Lane Johnson.

By not moving on from Dillard, the Eagles maintain their strong offensive line depth and can look towards potentially making a move during the offseason.
