Christopher Nolan finally won a Best Director Oscar, and Steven Spielberg was the one to give it to him

Legendary filmmaker Christopher Nolan has finally won his Oscar.

One of the best directors of all time has finally won his Oscar, and he got it in the absolute best way possible.

Christopher Nolan, the auteur behind such classic films as The Dark Knight, Memento, Inception and Dunkirk, won the Academy Award for Best Director on Sunday night for his latest masterpiece, Oppenheimer.

Legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg presented Nolan the award, which shows highlights a fantastic generational passing of the torch from one all-time director to another.

Nolan has only been nominated for Best Director once before for Dunkirk, so this makes his first victory on his second attempt in the category.

His win is notable not only because of his stature in the industry, but because of his status as one of the few household name filmmakers left working.

Nolan gave a very commendable speech after accepting his long-awaited Oscar, one where he praised his producing partner and wife Emma Thomas and thanked his Oppenheimer cast and crew.

So many have been eagerly awaiting Nolan’s Oscar win after he got infamously snubbed for The Dark Knight back in 2009, but it’s better late than never. Nolan really has finally won his Academy Award.

Gwyneth Paltrow celebrates Robert Downey Jr.’s Oscar win from home

Paltrow celebrated the first Oscar win for Downey, with whom she co-starred in all three Iron Man movies.

Robert Downy Jr. finally winning his first Oscar was a cause for celebration for the crowd in attendance at the 2024 Academy Awards as well as for fans watching at home. Included among those fans celebrating Downey’s Best Supporting Actor award was his Iron Man co-star Gwyneth Paltrow.

In a post on her Instagram, Paltrow celebrated the win while getting ready for what we presume is a night full of post-Oscar parties. Paltrow and Downey appeared together in all three Iron Man movies as well as several other movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Stay tuned to For The Win for more coverage of the 2024 Oscars.

Yes, Robert Downey Jr. is surprisingly the first former SNL cast member to win an Oscar

Ironically, RDJ’s SNL run was pretty short, lasting just 16 episodes.

Robert Downey Jr. won his first Academy Award on Sunday night, taking home Best Supporting Actor for his work in Oppenheimer. It was the first award of the night that the film won.

It was the third time Downey had been nominated. He was up for Best Actor in 1990 for Chaplin, and Best Supporting Actor in 2009 for Tropic Thunder.

Downey’s performance as Lewis Strauss also won him a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, and a SAG Award. His portrayal of Strauss is incredibly key to making the film work, as director Christopher Nolan uses Strauss’s Senate confirmation hearing for Secretary of Commerce as a framing device to tell the story.

The win for Downey was not just significant for him and Oppenheimer, but also the show he was on in 1985, a little thing called Saturday Night Live.

Downey is in fact the first former SNL cast member to win an Oscar.

Yes, really.

That might be hard to believe considering the show has produced stars like Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Eddie Murphy, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey and Kristen Wiig. A lot of those folks have been nominated for Oscars, but never won.

Murray won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for his work in 2003’s Lost In Translation, but lost the Best Actor Oscar to Sean Penn. Murphy was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in 2007 for his work in Dreamgirls, but lost to Alan Arkin. Wiig was nominated for Best Original Screenplay in 2012 for writing Bridesmaids, but the award went to Woody Allen for Midnight In Paris.

Ironically, Downey’s SNL run was pretty short, lasting just 16 episodes.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito joked with Michael Keaton about Batman villainy during Oscars

HOLY OSCARS, BATMAN!

The co-stars of the 1990s comedy Twins (and Hollywood legends) Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito reunited at the 96th Academy Awards to present two Oscars for Visual Effects and Editing.

However, the two started their time on stage complaining about how, as two previous on-screen Batman villains, they could never get past the Caped Crusader.

DeVito played The Penguin in Batman Returns, while Schwarzenegger played Mr. Freeze in Batman and Robin.

Well, one of the most recognizable Batmans in the world, Michael Keaton, was in the crowd, and Schwarzenegger and DeVito took their villainous grievances right to Bruce Wayne himself to the delight of the crowd.

Seriously, how awesome was this? It’s really not every day that you get to see two former Batman villains finally get their opportunity to let a former Batman know what they really think in front of the world, but that’s what the Oscars are for!

This is one of those moments that makes us really grateful for the Academy Awards.

Robert Downey Jr. delivered an unforgettable speech after winning Best Supporting Actor

Robert Downey Jr. finally won his Oscar, and his speech rocked.

After years of working in the business, veteran actor Robert Downey Jr. has finally won his Academy Award.

The veteran actor, best known for playing Tony Stark/Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar on Sunday night at the 96th Oscars for his role as Lewis Strauss in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.

Downey Jr. gave predictably charismatic speech where he honored his wife Susan Downey, Nolan and everyone he worked with on the blockbuster film.

It was the perfect speech for such a beloved actor, as so many in the room looked very happy to see the Hollywood legend finally get his due.

It’s been a long time coming for Downey Jr., who was last nominated in the same category for Tropic Thunder back in 2008. Now, he’ll have his first Oscar to put on the shelf at home for an illustrious career stretching back decades.

It’s such a cool moment for Downey Jr. and all movie fans that he finally got his Academy Award, and his speech reflected just how special that moment was.

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt hysterically roasted each other over Barbenheimer during 2024 Oscars

Okay, this was hilarious.

“Barbenheimer” was the biggest film event of 2023, and two of its central players had a blast ribbing each other over being in the rival films.

Emily Blunt, who played Kitty Oppenheimer in Oppenheimer, and Ryan Gosling, who played Ken in Barbie, both got a really fun moment in Sunday’s 96th Oscars ceremony while introducing a tribute to stunt workers.

The two roasted each other over their movies, as Oppenheimer has fared better at the awards but Barbie made more money and led the cultural conversation.

The two will be in this May’s The Fall Guy, and we’re already loving the chemistry these two have while joking with each other.

John Cena showed up naked to the Oscars, and we can’t un-Cena it

A naked John Cena was not on our bingo card.

John Cena seemingly presented the award for Best Costume Design at the Oscars while naked. Yes, NAKED.

Jimmy Kimmel and John Cena surprised the entire audience at the Academy Awards with the naked body of Cena. Kimmel was reminiscing about a previous Academy Awards moment when a man streaked across the stage. He then asks the audience, “Can you imagine if a nude man ran across the stage today?” At that point, Cena was supposed to streak across the stage but was “afraid” to do the deed.

Kimmel told him to stop making it weird. That’s when John slowly inched his way out to the podium, with only an envelope covering his nether region, to present the award for Best Costume Design. He fittingly opened his award presentation dialogue with “Costumes are so important.”
