Best quotes from Mel Tucker, Xavier Henderson, and Payton Thorne following Michigan State football’s win over Indiana

A Big Ten road win is a Big Ten road win. While it wasn’t a perfect outing for Michigan State, they were able to do what they needed to do to take out Indiana on the road. The Spartans are now 7-0 heading into a bye week as they prepare for a tough stretch to the end of the season.

After the win, Mel Tucker and safety Xavier Henderson spoke to the media to recap a tough fought win and what comes next.

Report: Some influential people at LSU are high on Mel Tucker, could try to lure him from Michigan State

Report: Some influential people at LSU are high on Mel Tucker, could try to lure him from Michigan State

LSU coach Ed Orgeron has been on the hot seat much of the season as his Tigers already have 3 losses on the year. That seat got a little cooler on Saturday when his squad knocked off No. 20 Florida, but unless his team can get a few more high-profile wins, it might be the end of Orgeron’s time at LSU.

That’s where this gets interesting, and a little scary, for Michigan State fans. Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports and The Athletic reported early on Saturday that some influential people inside of LSU are extremely high on MSU coach Mel Tucker. That would certainly imply that, if the Tigers do move on from Orgeron, Tucker would at least be included in their coaching search.

Now, Mel Tucker already jumped from Colorado to Michigan State after a short tenure, so it would be fairly shocking if he did it again to go to LSU. But that LSU job is one of the top jobs in the country and they will certainly roll out the Brinks truck to entice their top candidate to come down south.

Interestingly, Mel Tucker was an assistant with LSU under Nick Saban, another Michigan State coach who was lured to LSU after a short stint with the Spartans.

It is important to note that Tucker has done nothing but praise MSU and call it his dream job multiple times, so this is complete speculation based on a potential coaching wish list from prominent LSU decision-makers.

‘Mondays with Mel’: Best quotes from Mel Tucker’s post-Rutgers win press conference

Mel Tucker and his Michigan State football team continue to roll on. The Spartans are no 6-0 after getting their revenge on Rutgers on the road and have advanced to No. 9 in the coaches poll, their highest ranking since 2016.

Mel Tucker spoke to the media on Monday following the win, in a new regular time slot on Mondays that he is calling ‘Mondays with Mel.’

Below, we put together the best quotes from the presser.

Mel Tucker brought a new phrase to Michigan State football this year with ‘Keep Choppin’ and it has caught on among both the players and the fan base. However, another Big Ten team also lays claim to the catchphrase.

Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano says he has been using that phrase since 2005:

“You know, we’ve been doing, ‘Keep Chopping’ since 2005 and Dr. Kevin Elko is, is the person who gave it to me – actually gave it to me in 1999 when I was at the University of Miami- he didn’t just give it to me he gave it to our whole staff,” Schiano told reporters on Monday.

“And it’s funny how things get tucked away and then come out and. But that’s become much more than a word in this program. So, we really, you know, live by that. It’s kind of a big part of our culture.”

I would suggest that this game should be for the all the marbles: whoever wins gets ownership of the term.

Michigan State will enter the month of October undefeated, which is amazing in itself. But will it remain unbeaten after its first matchup of the month; that’s a good question.

Michigan State will host Western Kentucky on Saturday in its second straight home night game. The Spartans survived an upset bid from Nebraska last week and will have to do the same against Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers bring a strong passing attack to Spartan Stadium and certainly have the weapons to make this an interesting game. Just ask Indiana, which sneaked past the Hilltoppers in a two-point win last week.
