Updated Chiefs 90-man offseason roster by position group

Be sure you know how to identify all of the #Chiefs players at training camp with an updated 90-man offseason roster:

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to hit the practice field for their first 2021 training camp practice this morning.

Fans will flock to Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri to get a first look at the Chiefs. The team has made a few changes to their 90-man offseason roster ahead of camp. They’ll begin to trim the roster, cutting it down to 85 players on August 17th.

Typically, during the offseason program, the NFL allows for duplicate jersey numbers, with one number on offense and one on defense. There are a few instances of that right now, but when they trim the offseason roster to 53 players, there won’t be any duplicate jersey numbers. There are also only a handful of players making use of the NFL’s new rules on single-digit jersey numbers.

With all of that in mind, here’s the latest look at the latest Chiefs’ 90-man offseason roster organized by position group:

7 Chiefs who could make their first Pro Bowl in 2021

A look at 7 #Chiefs players with the best chance of making their first Pro Bowl in 2021.

The Kansas City Chiefs have their eyes on a bigger prize, but the Pro Bowl is always a nice consolation, with a lasting impact on player’s individual legacies. The Chiefs had two players earn first-time Pro Bowl selections in 2020, with DT Chris Jones and DE Frank Clark being selected for the game. Of course, they both appeared in Super Bowl LV instead and didn’t play in the annual all-star game.

If the Chiefs want to get to Super Bowl LVI, they’ll need some Pro Bowl-caliber performances out of their players during the upcoming season. Here are the seven Chiefs with the best chance at making their first Pro Bowl in 2021:

4 best bargain contracts for Chiefs in 2021

Taking a look at four of the best bargain contracts for the #Chiefs based on their potential contributions in 2021.

The Kansas City Chiefs have made some new additions to the roster since the Super Bowl LV loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They’ve assembled quite the talented roster for the 2021 season, but there are concerns about the team being a bit “top-heavy” in terms of their players and contracts. Chiefs GM Brett Veach has managed to add and keep some players at what should be considered below market value, based on the potential for contribution during the 2021 NFL season.

We recently took a look at Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes’ contract and discussed why it remains a massive bargain for the Chiefs. Besides Mahomes here are four of the best bargain contracts the Chiefs currently have on the books:

4 memorable moments from QB Chad Henne’s Chiefs career

In honor of QB Chad Henne’s 36th birthday, we look back at four memorable moments from his #Chiefs career thus far.

The Kansas City Chiefs notably have one of the best players in the NFL with starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes. However, the work isn’t done alone as Mahomes shares a quarterback room with his veteran backup Chad Henne.

Henne first joined the Chiefs in 2018 when Mahomes first took over as a starter. The veteran NFL quarterback hasn’t only played a part in Mahomes’ development, but he’s also proven to be essential when called upon in relief, especially during the 2020 NFL season.

In honor of Henne’s 36th birthday (July 2), we look back at four memorable moments from his Chiefs career thus far:

Counting down Chiefs’ 10 largest salary cap hits during 2021 NFL season

A look at the #Chiefs’ 10 largest salary cap hits for the 2021 NFL season

The NFL salary cap is set at $182.5 million for the 2021 NFL season. That number is down over $15 million from the previous year due to the revenue shortfall caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

10 players for the Kansas City Chiefs occupy roughly $120 million of that salary cap number for the upcoming season. That number is down over $20 million from the previous year, which makes sense given the squeeze on the salary cap this season. The front office in Kansas City was mindful about how they added new contracts to the books this year and it’s helping them compensate for the decline in salary cap dollars.

Here’s a quick countdown of the 10 largest salary cap hits on the Chiefs’ roster for the 2021 NFL season:

Chiefs’ 90-man offseason roster by jersey number

From Jerick McKinnon to Khalen Saunders, here are the jersey numbers for all 90 players on the Chiefs’ roster.

The Kansas City Chiefs are in the middle of Phase 3 of the NFL’s offseason workout program.

The team hasn’t yet updated their official roster with new jersey numbers, but we scoured all available images from Organized Team Activities (OTAs) and managed to track down the last of the unknown jersey numbers for every player on the 90-man offseason roster.

Typically, during the offseason program and ahead of the upcoming season, the NFL allows for duplicate jersey numbers — with a like number on offense and a like number on defense. There are a few instances of that right now, but when they trim the offseason roster to 53 players, there won’t be any duplicate jersey numbers. There are also only a handful of players making use of the NFL’s new rules on single-digit jersey numbers.

With all of that in mind, here’s the latest look at the Chiefs’ 90-man offseason roster by jersey number:

11 Chiefs players to watch with OTAs beginning this week

Keep an eye on these 11 players when the Chiefs hit the field for OTAs later this week.

Organized team activities (OTAs) are just around the corner for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Several teams have already kicked off their OTAs, but the Chiefs will begin the first of three groups of practices on Tuesday. This is really the first opportunity for all of the Chiefs’ players to get on the field and work together with few restrictions. There is still no live contact permitted during OTAs, but the addition of 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills advances the offseason program significantly.

With great attendance at the beginning of Phase 2 of the offseason program, fans can expect the majority of the Chiefs’ 90-man offseason roster to participate. With that in mind, here are 11 players that you should keep an eye on once the team hits the field.

Meet the Chiefs’ complete 90-man offseason roster

The first version of the 90-man offseason roster has been assembled by the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs have assembled their first iteration of the 90-man offseason roster. With the unofficial additions of a few undrafted free agents, and reported additions of WR Chris Finke and veteran DB Will Parks, the team has hit the 90-player limit.

From here on out, if the team makes any new additions, there will have to be a corresponding release from the team. Brett Veach and his staff will continue tweaking and adding to the roster this offseason to fit the team’s needs as they grow and evolve.

Here’s a quick look at the full 90-man offseason roster in its first form:

6 Chiefs players who could switch to their college jersey numbers in 2021

With the jersey number proposal is expected to pass, several Chiefs could switch back to their college numbers in 2021.

The Kansas City Chiefs recently proposed a rule to loosen the restrictions on jersey numbers. According to a report from NBC Sports’ Peter King, that proposal is expected to be passed when the NFL owners next gather for a vote.

The rule would expand the usage of certain numbers, allowing running backs, wide receivers, tight ends, linebackers and defensive backs to wears numbers 1 through 19, which were previously reserved for quarterbacks, punters and kickers. It’d make things a bit more closely resemble the rules that they use in college football and it’d allow a lot of players to switch back to those previously worn numbers.

Here’s a look at what the new rules would entail:

  • Quarterback, Punter/Kicker: 1-19 (unchanged)
  • Running back, wide receivers, tight ends: 1-49, 80-89
  • Offensive linemen: 50-79
  • Defensive linemen: 50-79, 90-99
  • Linebacker: 1-59, 90-99
  • Defensive backs: 1-49

We already know that Tyrann Mathieu is not going to wear his No. 7 from LSU, but who are some of the other players for Kansas City who could switch back to their college numbers?

Here’s a look at six players who could be willing to make the switch:

Chiefs have 4 players with offensive tackle experience under contract for 2021

Are one or both of the Chiefs’ new starters at offensive tackle on this list?

The Kansas City Chiefs made a pair of bold moves on Thursday morning, releasing their starting left and right tackles in order to free up over $18 million in salary-cap space. Without Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz, the Chiefs are now in need of two bookend tackles to protect franchise QB Patrick Mahomes. They have a number of options currently on the roster, namely unproven young players and one veteran who hasn’t yet hit their stride as a professional.

Here’s a quick look at the four offensive tackles the Chiefs currently have under contract for 2021:
