Bears CB Kyler Gordon records INT in second straight game

Bears rookie Kyler Gordon has been a takeaway machine in these last two games.

Bears rookie cornerback Kyler Gordon has been a takeaway machine since his return to the lineup after missing two games with a concussion.

Gordon, who accounted for two takeaways in last week’s loss to the Eagles, picked off Bills quarterback Josh Allen in the second quarter to prevent a Buffalo drive from ending in points.

It was Gordon’s second consecutive game with an interception, giving him three picks on the year.

Gordon, the Bears’ top draft selection, got off to a rough start in his rookie season. He was repeatedly picked on by opposing quarterbacks, including Aaron Rodgers. But once Gordon got more comfortable, things started to click.

“Just being out for those two, three weeks, I was just itching to play the entire time so just really wanted to touch the football and do something,” Gordon said earlier this week. “But being able to be out there and make those plays, it’s energizing, it’s fun and exciting and just something I want to keep repeating over and over again.”

Gordon is getting his wish.

Bears Week 16 inactives: Teven Jenkins, Cody Whitehair OUT vs. Bills

The Bears have released their inactives ahead of today’s game against the Bills, where Teven Jenkins and Cody Whitehair are out.

The Chicago Bears (3-11) have released their inactives ahead of their Week 16 game against the Buffalo Bills (11-3), where Chicago is looking to break a seven-game losing streak.

The Bears will be shorthanded for Saturday’s game. They’ll be without top offensive linemen Teven Jenkins (neck) and Cody Whitehair (knee), who were already doubtful for this game. Receivers Chase Claypool (knee) and Equanimeous St. Brown (concussion) are also inactive.

Defensive tackle Angelo Blackson is a notable healthy scratch in this game.

With Jenkins and Whitehair out, look for Michael Schofield and Larry Borom to get the nods at the guard positions. N’Keal Harry, who’s back in the lineup, should get plenty of looks at receiver with Claypool and St. Brown out.

Here’s a look at the Bears’ inactives against the Bills:

  • WR Chase Claypool
  • OL Teven Jenkins
  • OL Cody Whitehair
  • WR Equanimeous St. Brown
  • DL Angelo Blackson
  • TE Trevon Wesco

‘Tis the season: Our Christmas wishlist for the Bears heading into 2023

Tis the season! Here’s what we’d like to gift the Bears for the 2023 season.

The Chicago Bears are a team in the midst of a rebuild, where there’s more change coming to the roster in 2023.

General manager Ryan Poles has an abundance of holes to fill through free agency and the NFL draft. One of those isn’t quarterback, as the Bears have found their franchise guy in Justin Fields.

But in order to “take the (NFC) North and never give it back” and make a run at a Super Bowl, there’s a lot of work that needs to be done with this roster, especially around Fields.

So, in the spirit of Christmas, we’re taking the time to compile a wishlist of things we’d like to gift the Bears for the 2023 season to help get them on track.

Everything to know heading into Bears’ Week 16 game vs. Bills

Here’s a rundown of what we know heading into the Bears-Bills Week 16 matchup.

The Chicago Bears (3-11) will face the Buffalo Bills (11-3) on Christmas Eve, where Chicago is looking to snap their seven-game losing streak.

The Bears are coming off a narrow 25-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, where they kept pace with one of the NFL’s best offenses and defenses. Quarterback Justin Fields continues to make history, and he’s closing in on the record for most rushing yards in a season by a quarterback.

Now, Chicago will face a test against another Super Bowl contender in the Bills in what’s going to be crazy weather conditions.

Here’s a rundown of what we know heading into Saturday’s game against the Bills:

Bear Necessities: How Justin Fields is preparing for wintry conditions at Soldier Field

The NFL knew exactly what they were doing when they scheduled the Bears and Bills to play on Christmas Eve at Soldier Field.

The NFL knew exactly what they were doing when they scheduled the Bears and Bills to play on Christmas Eve at Soldier Field. Now, thanks to a winter storm, we’re going to get it.

The forecast for today’s game calls for a high of 13 degrees with winds up to 30 mph with sub-zero wind chill. It’s got all of the makings for an old-school, smash-mouth football game.

For Bears quarterback Justin Fields, he’s excited to get to play in “Bear weather.”

“Yeah, I am excited,” Fields said. “It’s going to be my first time playing in that weather. It’s going to be fun.”

It’s certainly different from playing in a monsoon in the season opener against the 49ers. But for Fields, the lesson is the same.

“Just take care of the ball,” he said. “Of course, I fumbled on the first or second drive. That’s been the biggest thing, is ball security.”

The cold isn’t the biggest concern for Fields — he’s no stranger to that having played college ball at Ohio State.

“It’s just the wind,” Fields said. “The cold isn’t a big deal. Once the wind sarts going, that’s when it gets cold. Like, 20 degrees, no wind, I mean, you’re fine out there. But the wind, of course makes it cold.”

Bears coach Matt Eberflus said this week in practice they’ve “(mimicked) game conditions the best we can.”

The Bears and Bills are certainly no strangers to this weather.

Bears place Jaylon Johnson, Kindle Vildor on IR, activate Khalil Herbert

The Bears are down two top cornerbacks as Jaylon Johnson and Kindle Vildor’s seasons are done.

The Chicago Bears announced that they’ve placed cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson and Kindle Vildor on injured reserve, ending both of their seasons.

The good news? Running back Khalil Herbert has been activated from IR, and he’s expected to make his return to the lineup Saturday against the Buffalo Bills.

Vildor has been battling an ankle injury over the last couple of months, so it’s not a huge surprise. But Johnson landing on IR is a surprise considering he had been saying this week that he expected to play against the Bills, and that appeared to be the indication.

But with Chicago eliminated from postseason contention and nothing at stake, it’s a move that makes sense. And it could certainly help the Bears secure the No. 2 overall pick.

Chicago has now lost its top two defensive backs in Johnson and safety Eddie Jackson, who was placed on season-ending IR with a foot injury a few weeks ago.

With Johnson and Vildor done for the season, that leaves the Bears with rookie Kyler Gordon and undrafted rookies Jaylon Jones and Josh Blackwell. Harrison Hand and Breon Borders, who have been practice squad mainstays, have been signed to active roster.

2 top free agent offensive linemen targets off the board for Bears

It hasn’t been a great day for the Bears’ 2023 offseason as 2 of the top offensive linemen slated to hit free agency signed extensions.

It hasn’t been a great day for the Bears’ 2023 offseason as two of the projected top offensive linemen slated to hit free agency signed contract extensions with their teams.

The Packers re-signed offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins to a four-year, $68 million contract extension, which makes him the second-highest paid guard in the NFL.

Not long after, the Browns inked right tackle Jack Conklin to a four-year, $60 million extension that includes $31 million fully guaranteed.

Bears general manager Ryan Poles needs to overhaul their offensive line this offseason, where no starting job is guaranteed. Right guard might be safe, as Teven Jenkins has found a new home as the team’s best offensive lineman. But the tackle jobs, left guard and center should certainly be addressed this offseason.

Jenkins has thrived in his role at left guard in Green Bay, and many wondered if a reunion with Luke Getsy was in the cards. Conklin was a top option at right tackle, another position Chicago will look to address.

Some other top free agent targets on the offensive line include tackles left tackle Orlando Brown Jr., right tackle Mike McGlinchey and center Rodney Hudson. The offensive line will also no doubt be a focal point in the 2023 NFL draft.
