Kansas State (8-19) vs TCU (5-11) Game Preview

Why Kansas State Will Win

Kansas State had its moments.

It’s been a rough year overall, but the Wildcats played a solid brand of defense all year, won three of the last four games including a victory over Oklahoma – and the offense has been great at moving the ball around and taking a ton of threes.

It also managed to beat TCU a few weeks ago 62-54 when the O was fine and the D was even better.

The Horned Frogs turn the ball over way too much, they’re not good enough on the free throw line, and they don’t hit enough from three, but …

Why TCU Will Win

TCU is very, very strong defensively. The scoring punch might not be there, but the D has been good enough to keep the team in most games. That includes the 67-60 win over Kansas State back in early January, allowing just 37% from the field and 28% from three.

The Wildcats might be playing well lately, but they only average 61 points per game, they’re awful on the defensive boards, and they’re even worse on the free throw line than TCU.

What’s Going To Happen

The two are just even enough to play a good, tight, fun game – but without bothering with that whole scoring thing to get in the way.

Kansas State is playing far better, the defense has turned it up several notches – four of the last five teams on the schedule weren’t able to get past 25% from three – and that’s going to be just enough to lock down the TCU offense in key spots late.

Kansas State (7-18) vs West Virginia (16-6) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why Kansas State Will Win

Break up the 2021 Kansas State Wildcat basketball team.

It can’t score, gives it up too often, can’t rebound, can’t shoot from the outside, and can’t seem to win a Big 12 basketball game after starting 1-0 in the conference, and then …

At TCU – win. Oklahoma – win.

The defense hasn’t been all that bad throughout the rough season, but all of a sudden it ramped things up a whole other level. The Horned Frogs, Sooners, and Kansas couldn’t hit a thing from three against this D.

There’s a problem, though …

Why West Virginia Will Win

Kansas State really can’t score.

There’s a reason it’s 5-0 in the last 18 games when it holds teams to under 59 points, and 0-13 when it doesn’t.

West Virginia hasn’t scored fewer than 62 points all year, averages 78 points per game, and even when it was held down by the K-State defense back in late January, it still won 69-47.

The Mountaineers dropped a double-overtime game to Oklahoma two weeks ago, but that’s been if for the problems in February. The offense is good, the rebounding is better, and it’s not going to take all that much of a scoring punch to put this away at home.

What’s Going To Happen

Kansas State has given the effort all season long without the results to show for it. It’ll keep this from getting out of hand – that’s what this defense does – but West Virginia dominate on the boards and go on one good scoring spurt.

Kansas (15-7) vs Kansas State (5-17) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why Kansas Will Win

There wasn’t any issue taking down the Wildcats a few weeks ago in a 74-51 win. The Jayhawks were solid from the field, but 1) the defense took over and 2) they came up with a whole lot of rebounds.

Kansas State has lost 12 straight because of an offense that’s struggling way too much to keep up with any sort of pace. The 80-77 loss to Texas was the only time in the last ten games – and the second time in the last 15 – it managed more than 70 points.

It’s the worst scoring O in the Big 12 and there are way too many turnovers to screw up any chances to get on a run. However …

Why Kansas State Will Win

Kansas isn’t great at defending the three.

It’s been okay lately, but get hot from the outside and it’s possible to beat the Jayhawks. It’s asking a lot out of a Kansas State team that’s hit or miss from the field and from the outside, but somehow get to 40% from three, and beat Kansas.

The Jayhawks 1-6 in their last seven games when teams are able to get to that 40% mark. K-State has only been able to get there three times all year, but it was hot against Texas Tech just a few days ago and need to keep bombing away to potentially pull this off.

What’s Going To Happen

Kansas will dominate on the boards and will force a whole lot of mistakes.

Kansas State is great at fighting the good fight at home, and then lose. The Jayhawks will struggle to get comfortable because of too many missed free throws, but they’ll make up for the problems by being +10 in rebound margin.

Kansas State Football Schedule Analysis: It’s a sneaky-tough non-conference run with the Stanford game played in AT&T Stadium a toss-up and with the dangerous Nevada offense coming to Manhattan. Get out of this 3-0, and the breaks are there to make some noise.

Oklahoma State kicks off the Big 12 slate on the road, but the Oklahoma game is at home and there’s a week off before hosting Iowa State. There isn’t a bad run of road games – no three in four weeks like most Big 12 teams – and getting Texas Tech and Kansas on the road isn’t bad. Best of all, the Wildcats get five conference home games before closing out at Texas.

Kansas State Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: The Wildcats get by Stanford and Nevada for a hot start, and they at least split the home games against Oklahoma and Iowa State to be in the Big 12 title chase.

There aren’t any problems over the relatively easy run of five conference games after facing the Cyclones to have a shot at a Big 12 Championship spot going into the finale at Texas.

Kansas State Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: Stanford wins the opener and the Nevada offense goes off. 1-2, Kansas State loses at Oklahoma State going into the Oklahoma game, and it’s an 0-3 Big 12 start after losing to those two and Iowa State.

Realistically, there will be several wins even if the wheels fall off, but the Wildcats struggle enough to need a win at Texas to get bowl eligible, and they blow it.

Oklahoma State (12-6) vs Kansas State (5-16) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why Kansas State Will Win

Kansas State keeps on losing, but it keeps on being pesky.

You are what your record is and you are what your final scores are, but it’s been able to push a few good teams over the last days including an 80-77 loss to Texas.

No, there hasn’t been a win in 2021, but the Wildcats shoot a whole lot of threes, make a whole lot of threes, and the move the ball around well enough to at least keep the pressure on. But …

Why Oklahoma State Will Win

Oklahoma State’s defense is stifling at times.

It’s a good team on the boards, it’s great at forcing stops and mistakes, and it’s a terrific one-and-done team that doesn’t allow second chance points. That’s part of the reason what it’s No. 1 in the Big 12 in field goal D, and that’s part of the reason why Kansas State can’t win.

The Wildcats don’t come up with rebounds and has the worst field goal defense in the conference.

What’s Going To Happen

Oklahoma State got Kansas State on the road 70-54 back in early January after hitting 56% from the field. It helped that it came up with ten more rebounds was able to move the ball around enough to come up with one of its best assist games of the season.

Oklahoma State can play tough D, and Kansas State can’t. And for all the plucky play by the Wildcats over the last few games, that’s been at home. They’ve been getting rocked on the road.

Texas (11-5) vs Kansas State (5-15) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why Texas Will Win

Texas is struggling. Kansas State is really having issues.

The Wildcats are on a ten-game losing streak including an 82-67 loss in Austin to the Longhorns back in mid-January. Texas was hardly perfect, but it seemed to hit just about from the field – it nailed 53% of its shots – but that’s not all that far off from the norm for the Big 12’s worst defense.

Kansas State’s D is bad, the O is playing worse, and there’s no rebounding and a whole lot of mistakes. Other than that, everything is going great in Manhattan. But …

Why Kansas State Will Win

It’s not like Texas is turning out the lights on anyone lately … except for Kansas State.

That was the only win since January 9th, losing four of the last five games losing a few close games and getting rocked by Baylor. The Longhorns were miserable from the free throw line against the Bears, and they couldn’t seem to hit a three against Oklahoma State.

Kansas State needs a few breaks. Texas makes enough mistakes to let that happen, and the Wildcats have to take advantage of every one of them. They’re going to keep firing up the threes and they could keep the pressure on.

What’s Going To Happen

Kansa State is having way too many issues putting the biscuit in the basket.

It’s not getting totally annihilated at home – at least not always – having most of its problems on the road. It’ll slow things down enough to not let this get too out of hand, but Texas will be able to pull away in the second half by finally getting the shooting touch back.

Texas Tech (13-5) vs Kansas State (5-14) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why Texas Tech Will Win

Kansas State can’t score enough.

The defense has been good enough to keep most games from getting too out of hand, but the three-point shooting is occasionally non-existent – the team hasn’t hit more than 30% of its threes in six of its last seven games.  It shoots a ton of threes, but it doesn’t make them and doesn’t get enough offensive rebounds.

Texas Tech lost twice in the last seven games with the defeats to Baylor and in a shootout at West Virginia – no shame in either game. The team hits seemingly every free throw, it doesn’t screw up enough to matter, and the defense is the best in the Big 12 … Kansas State isn’t going to score enough.

Why Kansas State Will Win

The Wildcats weren’t bad in the first meeting – an 82-71 loss on the road. They were okay from the field and the defense was good from the outside, but what they have to keep the Red Raiders off the line.

How did K-State lose? Texas Tech shot 36 free throws, and Kansas State shot nine. That’s what the Red Raiders do – they get to the line as well as anyone in the nation – but if the Wildcats can avoid fouling, hold up well on the outside defensively, and just be okay from the outside, they’ll have a shot.

What’s Going To Happen

Again, Kansas State just doesn’t score enough. The defense can hold up well at times to not get obliterated, but the Texas Tech D will play a whole lot better than it did in the first meeting and make this win even easier.

Big 12 College Football Recruiting: Team Rankings, Top Players, Biggest Strengths, What’s Missing

How did all of the Big 12 teams do in the 2021 recruiting season? The Big 12 recruiting rankings, the stars, top players, biggest strengths.

How did all of the Big 12 teams do this recruiting season? Here are the recruiting rankings for the conference, along with the stars for each team, top players, and biggest strengths.

[jwplayer sAUsa6ez]

2021 Big 12 Recruiting Rankings, Breakdown

No, really. How good were the Big 12 classes this 2021 recruiting season?

1. Oklahoma

Once again, Oklahoma dominated the conference recruiting by a mile helped by the coaching uncertainty at Texas throughout the process and with the rest of the Big 12 being the rest of the Big 12. There’s more for the already-great passing game, more pass rushers, and more talent with the top ten Sooner signings stronger than anything the rest of the Big 12 – maybe without Texas – can put together combined.

2. Texas

It’s fine. Compared to the rest of the Big 12 it’s great, compared to Oklahoma it’s just okay, and considering the coaching uncertainty, it’s a solid class. It’s not nearly as huge as the 2019 version, and last year’s class cranked up the speed and talent level, but this one has a whole lot of athletes, a lot for the defense backfield and receiver, and the lines will be left for future classes.

3. West Virginia

The first class under Neal Brown was mostly about infrastructure, but this one is going after the future stars for the skill spots with good running backs, a few nice tight ends, and the pass rushers to be more disruptive. No, the Mountaineers aren’t going to compete with Oklahoma and Texas for talent, but they got enough great prospects to be among the best of the league’s other eight teams.

4. Oklahoma State

The secondary got enough talent to see a decent upgrade going forward, and there were a whole lot of receiver prospects. There’s not a ton of high-end talent, but the program never gets the big-time five-star types and it still does more than fine. It’s a very good class, but it’s not close to what Oklahoma was able to get and it doesn’t have high-end talent of Texas.

5. Kansas

The recruiting has been building. Les Miles upgraded the talent level in last year’s class, and this one takes things up a few notches with a whole slew of defensive backs who could’ve played anywhere in the Big 12, and with a nod to the passing game with a few quarterbacks to develop along with some good-looking receivers.

2021 Big 12 Recruiting
Every Team’s Star | Class Strengths
What’s Missing | 2021 All-Big 12 Recruiting Team

6. Iowa State

It’s another class of solid Iowa State prospects without a whole slew of superstars, but there are just enough good players to develop into what the program does. RB Eli Sanders is more of a quick back than the usual pounder, and the few offensive linemen brought in are good.

7. TCU

If the 2019 class was about quantity, and the 2002 class was about quality, this one is in the middle. There’s enough skill talent to add to the mix to build around for the near future, and as always under Gary Patterson, write the positions for the prospects in pencil – they’ll be moved around where they’ll fit best.

8. Kansas State

Lsat year was about getting bodies and building things up under head coach Chris Klieman, but this time around the class is looking to do more to upgrade the overall talent level. QB Jake Rubley is the main man for the near future and the star to build around, but the defense got the most bulk talent.

9. Texas Tech

You never want to rely on two players to make a recruiting class, but it’s all about QB Behren Morton and RB Cam’Ron Vadez. They’re the two high-end talents who could’ve gone almost anywhere, and they’re what take this class from okay to potentially strong.

10. Baylor

The class a few years ago was strong, there wasn’t any time for Dave Aranda to work in 2020, and now this season’s class is just sort of okay. The hope was for the full season to load up would lead to something big, but it’s a smallish haul of prospects without any sure-thing superstars.
