Positive COVID-19 test shuts down New York Jets

The New York Jets have closed their facility after a positive COVID-19 test.

It is becoming a familiar refrain, sadly as the NFL mirrors the world. The New York Jets were sent home Friday and their team facility closed after a player tested positive for COVID-19.

The test, of course, is going to be re-run to see if it is a false positive. Meanwhile, Sunday’s Week 5 opponent, the Arizona Cardinals, were supposed to fly to New Jersey and have to wait to see what is next.

This is the latest in a series that has seen two games rescheduled in Week 5. The Buffalo-Tennessee game will be played Tuesday and the Denver-New England contest has been moved to Monday.

Justin Herbert is on an astonishing Super Bowl MVP run

Justin Herbert has faced Super Bowl MVPs in his first two starts and that easily could become four.

The Los Angeles Chargers had to start Justin Herbert against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3 when a doctor somehow punctured Tyrod Taylor’s lung.

The rookie from Oregon has done quite well for himself in two losses.

And an oddity is going to continue in Week 5 week should the sixth overall pick meet the New Orleans Saints Monday at the Superdome.

How about opening your career against three Super Bowl MVPs?

That is exactly what Herbert would have done should he face Drew Brees and the Saints.

He went up against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in Week 3, an overtime loss.

In Week 4, all Herbert had to do was wage an arms war with the legendary G.O.A.T., Tom Brady.

And up next on the Chargers’ docket is Brees.

Believe it or not, the run could not end at three.

The Chargers play host to the New York Jets on Oct. 18, Week 6 if you are counting.

Sam Darnold is out this week as the Jets play host to the Arizona Cardinals.

And, yes, if Darnold is out for the game with the Bolts, the starting job would continue to go to Joe Flacco. You know, the MVP of XLVII for the Baltimore Ravens.

Watch: Pierre Desir with the Pick-Six for the New York Jets

Pierre Desir picked off Brett Rypien of the Broncos and took it back 35 yards for a Jets touchdown.

Pierre Desir was made to look bad by Jerry Jeudy of the Denver Broncos in the first half on a 48-yard TD play. The Jets’ DB bounced back with two interceptions of Brett Rypien, the second a Pick-Six.

Check it out as No. 35 in black returns the pass of the former Boise State star 35 yards for a touchdown that brought the Jets within 27-25 in the fourth quarter.

Of course, the two-point conversion failed.

Watch: Brett Rypien finds Jerry Jeudy for long TD

Brett Rypien found Jerry Jeudy for a long Broncos TD in the second quarter.

The prosperity of the New York Jets’ first lead didn’t last long.

Quarterback Sam Darnold went out with an injury after a sack. The other team’s inexperienced QB, Brett Rypien of the Denver Broncos, showed he has a strong arm.

After a roughing the passer penalty, Rypien connected with top draft pick Jerry Jeudy of Alabama on a 48-yard scoring play.

LeBron James is watching the Broncos-Jets!

LeBron James plays on one one of the best basketball teams and spent his night watching two of the worst NFL teams.

How tame is bubble life for NBA players? How about LeBron James was spending his Thursday night in Orlando, Fl, watching the winless Denver Broncos visit the winless New York Jets.

That’s called dull.

The NBA great might have jinxed the former USC star, who went out of the game on the Jets’ second drive after being driven to the turf on a sack. Darnold walked off the field and went straight to the locker room.

Hall of Famers Troy Aikman and Shannon Sharpe each said they broke their collarbones in similar fashion.

Watch: Sam Darnold’s spectacular 46-yard touchdown run

Sam Darnold showed his legs work and took off on a 46-yard TD run for the Jets’ first lead of the season.

The game between winless teams delivered a highlight-reel play on the first drive.

New York Jets’ quarterback Sam Darnold took off after being heavily pressured in the pocket and navigated his way through the decimated Denver Broncos defense Thursday for a 46-yard touchdown run.

The third-year quarterback from USC, who was the third overall pick in 2018, gave the Jets their first lead of the season.

On the 75-yard drive, Darnold ran for 57 of them at MetLife Stadium. Darnold converted three first downs — with his legs — on the drive and the 57 yards is a career-high.

How rare are TD runs of that length by Jets’ quarterbacks?

Watch: Jets’ Sam Darnold throws Pick-Six to Colts’ Xavier Rhodes

The Jets’ Sam Darnold threw a pick that the Colts’ Xavier Rhodes returned for a TD.

The New York Jets needed a fast start in Indy Sunday against the Colts. The reverse happened.

Watch as third-year quarterback Sam Darnold’s struggles continued. His pass found Indy DB Xavier Rhodes for a Pick-Six that led to the Colts taking a 7-0 lead.
