Calais Campbell headed to third consecutive Pro Bowl

Calais Campbell will represent the Jags for the third straight time in the Pro Bowl.

Jacksonville Jaguars defensive lineman Calais Campbell will be heading to his third consecutive Pro Bowl.

With the league announcing its 2019 Pro Bowl rosters for the AFC and NFC Tuesday, the Jags announced that Campbell was their lone nominee (for now) to make the initial team. The Jags also announced that five players made the cut as alternates, including placekicker Josh Lambo (first alternate), tailback Leonard Fournette (second alternate), pass rusher Josh Allen (second alternate), punter Logan Cooke (third alternate) and receiver DJ Chark Jr. (third alternate).

So far this season Campbell has been able to register 53 tackles, 6.5 sacks, 10 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles. He’s also found himself as one of Pro Football Focus top graded defensive lineman with a current grade of 90.3.

The veteran has had quite a career with both the Jags and Arizona Cardinals, accumulating a total of 688 tackles, 14 forced fumbles, and 88 sacks. His recent nomination puts him in company with Jags greats like Tony Boselli (five selections), receiver Jimmy Smith (five selections) and running back Maurice Jones-Drew (three selections) all of whom have been to three Pro Bowls or more with the franchise. He also had two nominations with the Cardinals in 2014-15.

Jags have close to full participation in practice Thursday

The Jags had all but two players participate in their practice session Thursday in TE Seth DeValve and Dede Westbrook.

The Jacksonville Jaguars only had two players to sit out of practice Thursday for their upcoming game against the Tennessee Titans in tight end Seth DeValve (oblique) and receiver Dede Westbrook (illness), who was a new addition to the injury report. Aside from those two every player on the injury report participated to some capacity.

Receivers D.J. Chark Jr. (hamstring) and Chris Conley (hamstring) and nickelback D.J. Hayden (hip/wrist) were the three players from Wednesday’s injury report who were upgraded from limited to full participation. Safety Ronnie Harrison (eye) and offensive tackle Cam Robinson (knee) also were full participants.

Veterans Calais Campbell (back) and Brandon Linder (shoulder) were the only two limited participants on Thursday’s report. Both were on last week’s injury reports for the same injuries but were able to play in Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.

WR DJ Chark amongst several players to surface on injury report after battle with Colts

Two of the Jags’ top receivers have found themselves on the injury report after Week 11’s loss to the Colts.

The Jacksonville Jaguars had just one player on their final injury report for Week 11 but exited the game with some new injuries to deal with. Receivers DJ Chark and Chris Conley seemingly were amongst those players who sustained injuries during the Jags’ last game against the Indianapolis Colts as both surfaced on the team’s first injury report for Week 12 with hamstring injuries. Despite their injuries, however, both players were limited.

Joining Chark and Conley as limited participants were nickelback D.J. Hayden (hip/wrist), center Brandon Linder (shoulder) and defensive lineman Calais Campbell (back). All three were on Week 11’s injury report as well, however, Hayden was on the report with a different injury (neck/shoulder).

Offensive tackle Cam Robinson (knee) and safety Ronnie Harrison (eye) were full participants Wednesday after surfacing on the injury report with the same injuries they had on Week 11’s report.

The Jags’ lone non-participant who surfaced on Wednesday’s injury report was tight end Seth DeValve (oblique), who was the only player on Week 11’s final injury report and missed last Sunday’s game.

2020 Pro Bowl: Voting is now live for your favorite Jaguars

Jags fans can now vote for their favorite players to make the Pro Bowl.

As of Tuesday Nov. 12, Jacksonville Jaguars fans can now vote for their favorite players to be named to the 2020 Pro Bowl.

Just as they did last season players, coaches, and fans will all have a say in what players are voted into the Pro Bowl as each party will represent one-third of the voting process. Both the National Football Conference and American Football Conference will name 44 total players to their respective rosters and fan voting will end in exactly a month (Dec. 12). Afterward, the players who are nominated will be announced on NFL Network on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 8 p.m. EST.

While the Jags haven’t quite had the season they were hoping for, they have several players worthy of making the AFC roster. Before their bye week, running back Leonard Fournette was the AFC’s leading rusher with 831 yards, while DJ Chark was previously the AFC’s leading receiver with 692 yards.

On the defensive side, Calais Campbell has continued to defy his age as Pro Football Focus has him graded as the league’s second-best interior defender (91.5). Meanwhile, his comrades Yannick Ngakoue and rookie Josh Allen have been quite the pass-rushing duo, with four and seven sacks, respectively.

Lastly, place kicker Josh Lambo has absolutely been money, going 22-of-22 on his field goal attempts. He has more attempts than any other kicker who is 100 percent in the category, which makes a strong case for him to be considered the league’s best.

The Pro Bowl will take place just south of Jacksonville in Orlando, Fla., so fans of the Jags will be just two hours away. The game will take place on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020 at Camping World Stadium at 3 p.m. EST via ESPN, ESPN Deportes, ABC and Disney XD.
