Why Ball State Will Win

The Cardinals picked it back up after losing the opener to Miami University, ripping off three straight including a season-changing – potentially defining – win over Toledo on the road.

Drew Plitt was fantastic. The veteran quarterback has thrown a pick in every game, and last week he was phenomenal hitting 74% of his throws for 304 yards and two scores for the win.

Central Michigan is playing well overall, but it gave up 382 yards through the air in a loss to Western Michigan, and 365 yards in a win over Eastern Michigan over the last two games.

Throw in Ball State’s ability to get into the backfield, and the run D has been strong, but …

Week 14 College Schedule

Why Central Michigan Will Win

Can the Central Michigan passing game get rolling?

The offense has been balanced so far with 318 rushing yards last week against EMU and over 200 in each of the last three games, but Ball State’s secondary is what gets hit.

The Cardinals have one of the nation’s worst pass defenses – allowing 311 yards per game – and it’s not coming up with enough big plays. CMU is winning on its offensive balance, its run defense, and in turnover margin.

CFN Experts Picks: College

What’s Going To Happen

This should be fun.

Central Michigan will pull this off at home, but only after needing to survive a massive offensive performance from Plitt and the Cardinal offense. Each team will trade big punches, but CMU will win the turnover and time of possession battles.

Central Michigan (2-1) vs Eastern Michigan (0-3) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Central Michigan Will Win

The Chippewas might have given up a ton of points to Western Michigan in the 52-44 loss, and the secondary has had a whole slew of issues, but the run defense has been solid so far and the offense has been almost perfectly balanced.

CMU has run for 640 yards, thrown for 626, and it’s not turning the ball over with just one giveaway in the first three games.

Eastern Michigan has failed to run for more than 61 yards in two of the three games, it’s having problems on third downs, and the downfield passing game is struggling, but …

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why Eastern Michigan Will Win

The Eagles are doing a good job of making the passing game go. It’s not explosive, and it’s more functional than phenomenal, but it’s good enough to go for 250 yards.

The Eagles aren’t bad at taking the ball away, the defense is good on third downs, and the team is playing just a wee bit better than its 0-3 record.

Central Michigan is doing a lot of things right, it’ll give up big plays through the air, the third down defense is just okay, and the secondary is giving up 262 yards per game.

EMU QB Preston Hutchinson has to avoid throwing picks, but he’s got the air to keep pushing the attack.

CFN Experts Picks: College

What’s Going To Happen

Eastern Michigan hasn’t been able to bust through with any luck or a win but the team is in place to pull this off as long as the offensive line can hold up.

It won’t.

The Eagles will keep this close and keep it a fight for a full four quarters, but the Central Michigan pass rush will take over late to come up with the key stops to hold on.

Western Michigan (2-0) vs Central Michigan (2-0) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Western Michigan Will Win

The passing game has been terrific so far.

Kaleb Eleby has hit 71% of his passes for 546 yards and six touchdowns – three in each of the two games – with two touchdown dashes. Central Michigan hasn’t faced anyone with a decent passing game, and while the secondary has been fine, it’s about to get hit hard.

Western Michigan has the defensive front to consistently be accurate in the backfield, the offensive line is giving Eleby and company a whole lot of time to work, and the O has yet to turn the ball over.

[lawrence-related id=523249]

Why Central Michigan Will Win

The Chippewa defense – again, it hasn’t played any high-powered offenses – has been brilliant on third downs, holding Ohio and Northern Illinois to six conversions in 26 chances.

Overall, the D is the best in the MAC in yards allowed and scoring, and it’s getting the job done with takeaways, a ton of stops against the run in key spots, and just enough of a grinding running game to keep things moving.

CFN Experts Picks, Predictions: Week 12

What’s Going To Happen

Central Michigan is well coached, it’s playing well, and it has a decent talent base that’s only going to get better with more experience. However, Western Michigan has the all-around skill and scheme to push Buffalo for the honor as the MAC’s top team.

WMU has beaten CMU twice in a row and five times in the last six. The Bronco offense will be just efficient enough in the second half on the road to survive a fun, spirited fight.

Central Michigan (1-0) vs Northern Illinois (0-1) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Central Michigan Will Win

The Chippewas came up with a great fight in a fantastic 30-27 win over Ohio. The running game was great – Kobe Lewis ran for 112 yards and two scores – and the passing game did just enough to be fine for an offense that gained close to 80 yards more than the very, very good Bobcats.

CMU was +2 in turnover margin – it didn’t give the ball away and forced two fumbles – and now the aggressive D gets a Northern Illinois team that turned it over five times in the 49-30 loss to Buffalo, giving up two scoop-and-scores and a pick six. The Chippewas should come up with at least two takeaways.

Why Northern Illinois Will Win

Yeah, the five giveaways and the three touchdowns given up by the O were awful, but the offense worked against UB. QB Ross Bowers threw for 202 yards, the ground game was okay, and the O outgained the high-powered Bulls.

CMU might have put together a nice overall offensive day against Ohio, but the passing game didn’t stretch the field with a whole lot of dinking and dunking. NIU has to try controlling the clock, and that start with a better game from the offensive line. However …

CFN College Football Experts Picks

What’s Going To Happen

Central Michigan will own the time of possession battle and the NIU lines will be outplayed. Chippewa LB Troy Hairston was a one-man wrecking crew against Ohio with three sacks and seven stops, and that’s just the beginning for this D.

Northern Illinois will have to win the turnover battle, and it won’t. However, it’ll keep it close throughout at home until late.

Ohio (0-0) vs Central Michigan (0-0) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Ohio Will Win

As long as the quarterback play is fine after losing Nathan Rourke, the offense is going to be fantastic. All of the receivers of note are back, the running backs are strong, and the offensive line that was so great last year will be okay after losing a few all-stars.

The other side is loaded with talent, too, with eight of the top ten tacklers back starting with a phenomenal linebacking corps, a veteran line, and the corners are good.

This is a deep enough team to go along with the experience to handle the strange offseason and be solid from the start on the road, but …

Why Central Michigan Will Win

Central Michigan’s defense had problems at times, but it’s bringing back just about everyone. There’s good size up front, the pass rush is going to be fantastic, and against the running game of Ohio – it likes to establish the ground attack – it should be able to hold up.

The Chippewa receiving corps should be among the best in the MAC, and Kobe Lewis and Lew Nichols bring a nice blend of speed and pop to balance out the attack.

What’s Going To Happen

It’s one of the most important early games of the MAC season and could be a preview of the conference championship. Both teams are well coached, both have playmakers, and both have experience on defense. The CMU offense will be a bit sharper and more consistent.

Don’t expect a whole lot of big plays, but the Chippewas will come up with more of the explosive moments.

Big Ten Cancels Fall Season. What’s Next For College Football?

The Big Ten has canceled its 2020 football season due to concerns over the coronavirus. What’s next for college football?

The Big Ten has canceled its 2020 football season due to concerns over the coronavirus. What’s next for college football?

The Big Ten is going to do it. It’s going to cancel its 2020 college football season.

[jwplayer CKtYFVZx]

It was rumored to happen for the last few weeks, and now it’s actually happening the Big Ten is cancelling college football for the 2020 fall.

The details of what’s next are still sketchy, but commissioner Kevin Warren has been hinting at the idea of a spring football season. Forgetting that it would mean two college football seasons in ten months, and that college football in Minneapolis and Madison would be delightful in February, there aren’t any details yet on how that might work.

This all started rolling over the weekend with reports of a meeting among conference presidents about the viability of a college football season, and then Monday morning the Dan Patrick Show went with the story that the Big Ten was going to shut things down.

In the end, it was just too much. The Big Ten types have been hinting from the start that they didn’t believe they could safely make it all work. There were liability concerns, player safety issues, the lack of revenue from no fans in the stands, and then when it finally came time to practice and get it all going, the college presidents couldn’t make it work.

Oh yeah, and don’t forget the player movement side of things. Squashing the demands and the voices of players isn’t a bad thing for those who run the higher-levels of college athletics.

The Big Ten just gave the whole #WeWantToPlay movement one giant, “bless your heart.”

And now, very predictably, college football gets politicized. What could possibly go wrong?

What’s next for college football coming in a moment …
