6 player connections between Cardinals, Texans

The Cardinals have one former Texan while Houston has five former Cardinals.

The Arizona Cardinals face the Houston Texans this weekend on the road in Week 11. There are connections between the two teams. Perhaps the biggest is the relationship between Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort and his Texans counterpart, Nick Caserio.

They worked together for 15 seasons while with the New England Patriots.

In addition to this connection in their front offices, the two teams have six player connections. The Cardinals have one former Texans player while the Texans have a whopping six former Cardinals.

Cardinals to face 5 of NFL’s top interior defensive linemen in 2023

They have seven games against five of the league’s best interior defensive linemen in 2023.

The Arizona Cardinals’ defensive line enters the 2023 season with many question marks. They do not have any premier players or even any players who project to maybe be premier players.

But they do face many of the top defensive linemen in the league.

Based on the rankings of the top 11 interior defensive linemen in the NFL, the Cardinals will face five of them, and two of them will be opponents twice.

Where the Cardinals’ opposing starting QBs are ranked in the NFL

See where every projected opposing starting quarterback the Cardinals will face in 2023 is ranked in the NFL.

We are still in the offseason of rankings and lists. Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar ranked the 32 projected Week 1 starting quarterbacks in the NFL entering 2023.

Since Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is not expected to start the season healthy, as he is recovering from a torn ACL suffered in December, Colt McCoy is the one who is ranked. He comes in at No. 30 out of 32.

But what about the quarterbacks the Cardinals will see throughout the season?

Where do they rank?

Below you can find where each of the Cardinals’ projected opposing starters are ranked by Touchdown Wire, going week by week on their schedule.

Cardinals face 5 of NFL’s best edge defenders in 2023, including top 3

The Cardinals will face 5 of the NFL’s best pass rushers in 6 games in 2023, including Nick Bosa twice.

The Arizona Cardinals do not have a premier pass rusher on their team. They will rely on the development of young players on the edge — former inside linebacker Zaven Collins, rookie BJ Ojulari and 2022 third-round picks Cameron Thomas and Myjai Sanders.

While nobody on the Cardinals is considered a premier edge defender, they will face many good ones as opponents.

Of the top 11 edge defenders in the league as ranked by Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar, the Cardinals will face five, including the top three.

Cardinals-Steelers is one of many Super Bowl rematches in 2023

There will be 27 Super Bowl rematches in the regular season in 2023.

During the 2023 NFL season, there will be 27 games featuring teams who faced each other in a Super Bowl. The Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, who played in the last Super Bowl, will face off again in the regular season.

This slate of Super Bowl rematches even includes the Arizona Cardinals.

In Week 13, the Cardinals will face the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road. Cardinals fans will remember when the Steelers beat the Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII.

It isn’t even the only Super Bowl rematch that week.

In Week 13, there are three games representing four Super Bowl rematches:

  • Cardinals vs. Steelers (Super Bowl XLIII)
  • Packers vs. Chiefs (Super Bowl I)
  • Dolphins vs. Commanders (Super Bowl VII, XVII)

This isn’t the first time the Cardinals have faced the Steelers since that Super Bowl. The Cardinals have faced the Steelers three times since then, losing each matchup.
