Iowa State (2-14) vs Oklahoma State (13-6) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why Iowa State Will Win

Can the Cyclones catch any semblance of a break against an Oklahoma State team that’s reeling a bit.

The Cowboys have won two of their last four games, but the haven’t been explosive, they struggled a bit against a bad Kansas State team, and they might not be able to pull away against an Iowa State team that needs to keep this slow and low-scoring.

Iowa State can hit from the outside once in a while, it’s great from the free throw line, and …

Why Oklahoma State Will Win

Iowa State isn’t good at college basketball.

It can’t rebound, it turns the ball over way too often, and it doesn’t have the scoring ability to keep up if the scoring gets going at all. The defense isn’t all that horrible despite the stats, but it isn’t able to come up with the key stops when games are close,  and the offense doesn’t have the ability to go on a late run.

Oklahoma State might be struggling a bit overall, but the defense remains the best in the Big 12 at field goal percentage D.

What’s Going To Happen

Iowa State is plucky. It’ll fight the good fight – it’s been able to at least hang tough with West Virginia, Oklahoma and TCU over the last few weeks – and it won’t get its doors blown off. It’s just not going to be able to score consistently enough.

Texas Tech (14-6) vs TCU (11-8) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why TCU Will Win

It’s a decent all-around TCU team that can get hot from three, is relatively consistent from the outside, and it’s normally great at moving the ball around.

When the extra pass comes and the offense is hitting from 45% from the field or better, it’s able to hang around with just about anyone. Texas Tech’s defense is strong overall, but it struggled a bit lately – especially against West Virginia – allowing teams to hit 45% or better from the field in four of the last seven games.

TCU should generate enough second chance points on the boards to help the percentage, but …

Why Texas Tech Will Win

The Red Raider defense really is that good.

West Virginia was able to crack the code with the two wins over the last few weeks, doing a great job of nailing everything from three connecting on more than 55% from the outside. TCU can hit from three, but it’s more consistent than sensational.

Texas Tech is too good on the offensive boards and the defense is too good at forcing mistakes. TCU doesn’t force enough turnovers to matter.

What’s Going To Happen

Texas Tech will get back on track after the loss to West Virginia.

The defense will clamp down on a TCU offense that doesn’t shoot well enough overall and doesn’t have the firepower to go on a big run to keep up.

Oct. 23 at Iowa State

Nov. 6 at West Virginia

Nov. 13 TCU

Nov. 20 at Texas Tech

Nov. 27 Oklahoma

Oklahoma State Football Schedule Analysis: It’s a rough non-conference schedule considering the Cowboys aren’t facing any Power Five programs. Playing Tulsa was tough last year and should still be a problem, and going to Boise State isn’t going to be a breeze.

The Big 12 campaign is slightly strange with two manageable home games against Kansas State and Baylor before getting a week off. The Cowboys need the break with three of the next four and four of the next six games on the road before closing out against Oklahoma. Making things tougher is the start of all of that after the week off …

At Texas, at Iowa State. There’s the make-or-break midseason moment of the Big 12 season.

Oklahoma State Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: The Cowboys get by Boise State and beat Kansas State and Baylor on the way to a 5-0 start before getting their week off. They at least split against Texas and Iowa State on the road, and they don’t have any real problems until the regular season finale against Oklahoma before going off to the Big 12 Championship.

Oklahoma State Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: A loss at Boise State sets a bad tone, and a misfire against either Kansas State or Baylor makes things even worse.

OSU drops both games at Texas and Iowa State and loses on the road against West Virginia to end any hopes of going to the Big 12 Championship. It’s able to get bowl eligible, but it loses to Oklahoma to close out a disappointing regular season run.

Nov. 6 Baylor

Nov. 13 at Oklahoma State

Nov. 20 Kansas

Nov. 27 at Iowa State

TCU Football Schedule Analysis: The team doesn’t have to leave the great state of Texas until October 16th, getting a not-bad non-conference slate of Duquesne, Cal and SMU before opening up with a must-win over Texas to kickoff the Big 12 slate.

Lose to the Longhorns, and there’s a problem with three of the next four games on the road including at Oklahoma and Kansas State. Making matters worse is that five of the last eight games are on the road, and two of the home games are the lighter ones against Baylor and Kansas.

Making matters even worse than that is the open date – it comes after just the first two games meaning there’s a ten-week run to the finish.

TCU Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: There’s no problem with the non-conference schedule before beating Texas to open up the Big 12 campaign. The Horned Frogs survive the run of mid-season road games, beat West Virginia, Baylor and Kansas without a problem, and win two of the three road trips to Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Iowa State.

TCU Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: Realistically it’s still a bowl season even if most things go wrong, but there’s just no flow to it.A loss to a good Cal team in the rematch of the 2018 Cheez-It Bowl that America has been dreaming of. A loss to Texas hurts with losses in at least two of the next three road games to go along with defeats at Oklahoma State and Iowa State.

Nov. 6 OPEN DATE

Nov. 13 Iowa State

Nov. 20 Oklahoma State

Nov. 27 at Baylor

Texas Tech Football Schedule Analysis: The Red Raiders start out in NRG Stadium against Houston, and that’s the only real non-conference concern with Stephen F. Austin and FIU the other two games – and they need the easy road into the season.

The Big 12 campaign starts out with three road games in the first four and four in the first six before finally getting a break in early November. That means it’s a nine-week run before taking a breath.

Worse yet, they get five Big 12 road games including Oklahoma and Texas, but Iowa State, Oklahoma State and TCU have to come to Lubbock.

Texas Tech Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: It’s a 3-0 start through an easy non-conference schedule, and they’re able to get through a tough first four weeks of the Big 12 with at least two wins, and maybe three.

Realistically, they lose a few of the road games early on, but with a week off they come out rested and roaring for the home game against Iowa State and shock Oklahoma State on the way to one of the program’s best seasons in years.

Texas Tech Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: A loss to Houston right out of the gate hurts, but it’s not as bad as starting out 0-3 in Big 12 play including a hole defeat to TCU. The second half run of losses at Oklahoma, Iowa State and Oklahoma State ensures a losing campaign before the regular season finale at Baylor.

Nov. 27 at Texas

Kansas State Football Schedule Analysis: It’s a sneaky-tough non-conference run with the Stanford game played in AT&T Stadium a toss-up and with the dangerous Nevada offense coming to Manhattan. Get out of this 3-0, and the breaks are there to make some noise.

Oklahoma State kicks off the Big 12 slate on the road, but the Oklahoma game is at home and there’s a week off before hosting Iowa State. There isn’t a bad run of road games – no three in four weeks like most Big 12 teams – and getting Texas Tech and Kansas on the road isn’t bad. Best of all, the Wildcats get five conference home games before closing out at Texas.

Kansas State Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: The Wildcats get by Stanford and Nevada for a hot start, and they at least split the home games against Oklahoma and Iowa State to be in the Big 12 title chase.

There aren’t any problems over the relatively easy run of five conference games after facing the Cyclones to have a shot at a Big 12 Championship spot going into the finale at Texas.

Kansas State Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: Stanford wins the opener and the Nevada offense goes off. 1-2, Kansas State loses at Oklahoma State going into the Oklahoma game, and it’s an 0-3 Big 12 start after losing to those two and Iowa State.

Realistically, there will be several wins even if the wheels fall off, but the Wildcats struggle enough to need a win at Texas to get bowl eligible, and they blow it.

Nov. 20 at TCU

Nov. 27 West Virginia

Kansas Football Schedule Analysis: Normally, the non-conference schedule of South Dakota, at Coastal Carolina and at Duke would be a relative breeze, but the Jayhawks will be ecstatic going 2-1.

There’s a first half stretch of three road games in four weeks – with the home date against Baylor to start the Big 12 season – and there’s a late run of three road games in four weeks before closing out against West Virginia.

The Oklahoma game is in Lawrence, but going to Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Texas and TCU is a problem.

Kansas Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: The Jayhawks FINALLY beat Coastal Carolina after losing the last two years and a Big 12 home win over Baylor gets everyone excited. They use the week off to rest up and get ready for the home game against Texas Tech, and they pull off a stunning upset on the road somewhere on the right day – like at Duke or against TCU – and take down Kansas State and West Virginia on the road to get to six wins.

Kansas Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: KU loses everything. It drops the supposed tune-up game against South Dakota and get rocked by Coastal Carolina and Duke on the road. Nothing else works the rest of the way in Big 12 play.

Realistically, in a worst case scenario, there’s going to be a win somewhere, but it’s also possible that it’s just that one win on the right day in an upset to finish 1-11.

Oklahoma (12-5) vs West Virginia (14-5) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why Oklahoma Will Win

The Sooners were able to win the first time back in early January even though they didn’t shoot well and made a whole lot of mistakes. So how did they do it? They did just enough right to get by 75-71.

They did a wee bit more on the free throw line, they did a wee bit more on the glass, and they did a wee bit more from the field, even though the Mountaineers were great from three.

They have to repeat the performance.

West Virginia is terrific on the boards, and OU has to at least keep things even. The Mountaineers are also outstanding at bringing the pressure and forcing mistakes for easy baskets, and the Sooners just don’t turn the ball over often enough. However …

Why West Virginia Will Win

Oklahoma’s three point defense is awful.

West Virginia lost in the first meeting despite going lights out from three, and it might be able to do that again against a defense that has been good at times at getting out and making a stop, but is also coming off a rough defensive day in the win over Iowa State.

At home, WVU needs to reverse the first game by doing its part to own the glass – it was -6 in rebounding margin the first time – and the defense has to keep the Sooners from generating easy points. OU jacked up a season-high 35 threes in that game, and that’s fine – WVU just needs to clean up the misses.

What’s Going To Happen

It’s Baylor’s Big 12, but this is the battle for the No. 2 spot – for the moment.

The Mountaineers have won their last five Big 12 games, but they’re not necessarily a rock at home. They’ll be a bit better defensively in this – they’ll win the outside game – and they’ll be a bit tougher on the boards late to survive a fun back-and-forth battle.

Oklahoma State (12-6) vs Kansas State (5-16) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why Kansas State Will Win

Kansas State keeps on losing, but it keeps on being pesky.

You are what your record is and you are what your final scores are, but it’s been able to push a few good teams over the last days including an 80-77 loss to Texas.

No, there hasn’t been a win in 2021, but the Wildcats shoot a whole lot of threes, make a whole lot of threes, and the move the ball around well enough to at least keep the pressure on. But …

Why Oklahoma State Will Win

Oklahoma State’s defense is stifling at times.

It’s a good team on the boards, it’s great at forcing stops and mistakes, and it’s a terrific one-and-done team that doesn’t allow second chance points. That’s part of the reason what it’s No. 1 in the Big 12 in field goal D, and that’s part of the reason why Kansas State can’t win.

The Wildcats don’t come up with rebounds and has the worst field goal defense in the conference.

What’s Going To Happen

Oklahoma State got Kansas State on the road 70-54 back in early January after hitting 56% from the field. It helped that it came up with ten more rebounds was able to move the ball around enough to come up with one of its best assist games of the season.

Oklahoma State can play tough D, and Kansas State can’t. And for all the plucky play by the Wildcats over the last few games, that’s been at home. They’ve been getting rocked on the road.
