Vikings open as 6.5 point favorites in Week 3 vs Lions

The Vikings are currently favorites over the division rival Lions

The Minnesota Vikings are coming off of an absolute dud against the Philadelphia Eagles by a score of 24-7. The week prior, they looked like Super Bowl contenders in beating the Green Bay Packers 23-7.

Right now, this Vikings team is exactly who I thought they were: a .500 team with a lot of variance. They haven’t shown anything as of yet that they are a different football team than in prior years. Consistency will be the key for the Vikings here as they try to change the narrative.

Going into week three, they have a matchup against their division rival Detroit Lions who they don’t matchup with very well. The strength of the Lions is in the trenches and the Vikings have shown that they can be beaten, especially up the middle.

Our friends at Tipico Sportsbook have the Vikings as 6.5-point favorites and the over/under is set at 53.5 points.

Over the first two weeks, the Vikings had been underdogs along with being 1-1 against the spread and the under is 2-0. Watching the line progress this week will be interesting, as the Lions currently look like good bets to cover the spread with it being under a touchdown.

Kirk Cousins is astoundingly bad ATS on Monday Night Football

The Vikings starting quarterback has been bad on Monday nights for both fans and bettors

The Minnesota Vikings fell to the Philadelphia Eagles 24-7 on Monday in a game that never felt close.

One of the main reasons that it never felt like it was a close game was due to the offense. They struggled to move the ball down the field with any form of consistency and once they got to the red zone, they turned it over with three interceptions from starting quarterback Kirk Cousins.

A lot has been made of Cousins’ record on Monday Night Football but his record against the spread is the same at 2-10.

Being 2-10 against the spread, a bet that is meant to even the playing field for bettors to draw action on both sides is a really bad look for Cousins. His only two wins came against the Chicago Bears and those came after nine-consecutive losses to start his career.

Vikings open up as 2.5-point underdog vs Eagles

Monday’s game is essentially a pick-em on a neutral field

After opening up as an underdog against the Green Bay Packers last week, it happened once again in week two with the Philadelphia Eagles as a 2.5-point favorite over the Minnesota Vikings on Tipico Sportsbook.

The line also has the over/under at 51.5 points. This line signals that this is a pick-em game on a neutral field due to the home team getting spotted three points for the home field advantage.

Going into Monday night’s matchup, both teams had impressive offensive performances. The Vikings jumped out to a big lead over the Packers with a myriad of concepts, including a deep crosser to Justin Jefferson for an explosive touchdown.

On the Eagles side, they jumped out to a 17-point lead before allowing the Lions to get back into the game. They ran an incredibly balanced offense with quarterback Jalen Hurts throwing for 239 yards and the team rushing for 216 yards.

The interesting element of this matchup will be in the trenches. The Vikings defense garnered four sacks and 18 pressures against Aaron Rodgers while the Eagles have one of the more intimidating interior duos in Fletcher Cox and Jordan Davis.

Betting lines shift four points towards the Vikings overnight

With multiple Packers projected to be out, the betting lines massively shifted overnight

The opening lines from Tipico Sportsbook had the Green Bay Packers as a 1.5 point favorite over the Minnesota Vikings on Monday.

Throughout the week, the line hadn’t shifted much at all. Oddsmakers really believed that the Packers were a 4.5 point favorite on a neutral field.

Overnight, things shifted completely in favor of the Vikings as the Packers are projected to be without wide receiver Allen Lazard and their top-two offensive lineman David Bakhtiari and Elgton Jenkins.

With both Jenkins and Bakhtiari out for the game, it should make things a lot easier for the Vikings pass rushers Danielle Hunter and Za’Darius Smith.

The Vikings aren’t often a home underdog in the opener

The Minnesota Vikings haven’t been an underdog in week one at home since 1985

The Minnesota Vikings are a home underdog in week one and it’s quite a surprise.

The Packers lost to the Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium last season 34-31 and lost a top-10 receiver in Davante Adams and have a loaded injury report including LT David Bakhtiari.

Being a 1.5 point underdog per Tipico Sportsbook in the week one opener at home also marks the first time they have been an underdog since 1985 per The Action Network.

That’s a pretty long streak but also makes sense considering how consistent the Vikings have been over the last 37 years. The Vikings hope that they can have that same magic on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.

Sports Illustrated reports Thunder may trade up from 12th overall in 2022 NBA draft

This now makes two reports in the last week of the Thunder potentially wanting to move up from 12

Sports Illustrated Jeremy Woo recently hinted in his latest 2022 NBA mock draft at the possibility the Oklahoma City Thunder wants to package its 12th pick and other picks to potentially move up in the draft.

“There’s some thought around the league that the Thunder may try and combine this selection with some of their other draft picks in order to try and move up to get a second top 10 selection.”

This aligns with what Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer reported last week, where he also said the same thing that he’s heard that the Thunder might not want to trade up from 12th overall to get two top-11 picks this draft.

As a precursor, it’s that time of the year where draft rumors and reports are at an all-time high, but Woo is one of the legit ones in terms of draft content, so what he says holds some merit. Thunder fans will just have to wait until June 23 for the 2022 NBA draft to see if the team makes any moves.
