Report: NFL stars join ARod/JLo bid to buy New York Mets

Three NFL stars have joined the sports-power group headed by Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez looking to buy the Mets.

As if the Alex Rodriguez/Jennifer Lopez bid to buy the New York  Mets didn’t have enough star power, it added plenty of muscle with the news Monday three NFL players have joined their power group seeking ownership.

ESPN reported Hall of Fame linebacker Brian Urlacher, Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce and 2014 NFL Offensive Player of the Year DeMarco Murray are part of the ARod/JLo pursuit.

“We couldn’t be more excited to have such high-quality individuals as part of our group,” Lopez and Rodriguez told ESPN.

The group has already submitted its initial bid of $1.7 billion. Hedge fund billionaire Steve Cohen has made a top bid so far of $2 billion, according to a report by the New York Post. Mets COO Jeff Wilpon would prefer to sell to the Rodriguez-Lopez group if its offer is close to the best bid at the end of the auction, according to the Post.

Rodriguez and Lopez have put $300 million of their own money toward the bid. Other investors include future offensive lineman Joe Thomas, who spent his entire career with the Cleveland Browns, two-time NBA All-Star Bradley Beal from the Washington Wizards, and Denver Nuggets center Mason Plumlee.

The ESPN report was able to get quotes from the new investors:

“Being a former athlete and having a chance to be a part of a group trying to purchase a professional team, it’s pretty cool,” Urlacher told ESPN on Monday. “It’s especially cool to be involved with Alex. Alex is the man. You’ve got Kelce, Joe Thomas, DeMarco Murray. It’s great to be in a group with them.”

Added Chiefs tight end Kelce, “This is a crazy opportunity. I had a chance to meet Alex Rodriguez a couple years ago and just told him how much of a fan I was as a kid of him. I’m very thankful for the success that I’ve had in the NFL, to have an opportunity like this come across the table. I couldn’t think of a more unique set of people to be in charge of this.

“Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez are a star-studded couple that have gotten to where they are because they work their tails off. And they’re good human beings. I thank them for letting me be a part of this.”

Company offering rifle if you can guess who is killing Jay Cutler’s chickens

A company is offering a rifle and gift card if you can guess who is killing Jay Cutler’s chickens.

Jay Cutler’s pursuit of the predator who is killing off his chickens has been fun. The videos have been great and Cutler has done a fine job in his role as the hunter.

Have to think this next step in the search might be a little scary and over the top.

A company is offering a rifle — yes, a real rifle — and $1,000 gift card to its store if you can guess the culprit.

Here is the promo:

@ifjayhadinstagram (aka Jay Cutler) has a chicken murderer loose on his farm. Every night his ladies are fighting for their lives in their coop, and so far – the murderer remains elusive.

Jay’s trying to find the culprit, and we’re hoping a reward will help. Until the mystery is solved, we’re posting a reward for whoever can guess the predator. (Please still don’t be the cat).

Our all-new Ranger 22 should do the trick on scaring away any pesky predator.

So come forward with info, and enter for the chance to win the rifle for yourself.

On top of the questionable idea, it would be nice if there was a disclaimer saying you can’t enter the contest unless you are a certain age.

Hey, but there is something for everyone. So, shoot your shot, if you this is your thing

Watch: Jay Cutler dons night goggles in pursuit of serial killer of chickens

Jay Cutler has taken his hunt for the serial killer of chickens up a notch, or three.

If the first day of Jay Cutler’s pursuit of whatever is killing his chickens was entertaining and went viral, wait until people see what the former NFL quarterback is wearing as the hunt continued Thursday evening.

Yes, that is Cutler in a helmet with night goggles as he tries to find the perpetrator. The first night’s stalking proved fruitless so the search has been taken to another level.

The former Denver Bronco, Chicago Bear, and Miami Dolphin also introduced people to one of his roosters: Ole Blue. “Sometimes you have to fight crazy with crazy,” Cutler said. “Ole Blue has that look in his eyes. New sheriff in town. Predators beware.”

“First of all. The little guy is all heart and I love him, Cutler continues. “Coolest rooster in the game by far. Ole Blue terrifies me. Pretty sure he wants to fight me, he keeps staring at me with those crazy eyes and flapping his wings. Whatever comes in the chicken yard tonight better buckle up. Ole Blue is not playing. He’s trying to fight humans.”

He also admits he was wrong to try and pin the acts on his cat.

No word on whether Cutler’s friend said, “I’ll have whatever he’s having,” but it would be totally understandable. This otherworldly.

Watch: Ex-NFL QB Jay Cutler stalking serial killer of chickens

Jay Cutler won’t play chicken. He’s after something that has been up to fowl play with his birds.

Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler has a new passion. The ex-Denver Bronco, Chicago Bear, and Miami Dolphin is after a serial killer.

Of chickens. And he will pull out all the stops to end this fowl play.

Cutler took to Instagram to pitch his story. Apparently, some of the chickens are missing. And he is after the perpetrator who has come to roost.

“We’ve got a chicken serial killer on the loose,” Cutler said. “We’ve lost quite a few. Tonight, we’re gonna set up a trail camera to see if it’s a coyote, bobcat or raccoon. It could be anything. I’m not sure.

“But enough is enough. These ladies are a little edgy right now. We’ve got to figure things out. There is one other possibility. It could be an inside job.”

The camera pans to a cat, Thelma, who Cutler says is a savage with loose morals.

It has been a rough day in the wild world of animals for Bears.

Haha Clinton-Dix had a run-in — actually a run away — from a couple of Bears, too.

50 years ago, Gale Sayers paid stirring tribute to Brian Piccolo

Fifty years ago, Gale Sayers delivered an emotional speech about fellow Chicago Bears RB Brian Piccolo

Fifty years ago on May 25, 1970, Gale Sayers accepted the George S. Halas Award at a dinner in New York City. His speech was emotional and left the 600 in attendance awed.

Gale Sayers, the great running back, spoke from the heart about his friend and fellow Bears RB Brian Piccolo.

Sayers was a first-round pick out of Kansas. Piccolo was an undrafted free agent out of Wake Forest. The two struck up an unlikely friendship. Piccolo died at age 26 from embryonal cell carcinoma, an aggressive form of germ cell testicular cancer, first diagnosed after it had spread to his chest cavity.

The video below is from “Brian’s Song,” one of the great sports movies of all-time that premiered on ABC. The speech is re-enacted by actor Billy Dee Williams, who played Sayers in the movie. James Caan played Brian Piccolo.

There were growing pains in Year One for Kyler Murray and Kliff Kingsbury. They will continue in Year Two with more progress. Being in the NFC West doesn’t make improvement easy.

Fifth-year options for NFL Draft class of 2017

Many decisions have been made about fifth-year options for the 2017 NFL Draft first-rounder. Some remain with the deadline May 4.

Busy time for NFL teams and the players they chose in the first round of the 2017 draft. Rookie contracts for NFL draftees are four years long. Contracts for players picked in the first round, however, carry a team option for a fifth year and if a team wishes to use it, the option must be exercised by May 4.

The Saints picked up the option on offensive lineman Ryan Ramczyk in March. Ramczyk, taken from Wisconsin, has earned recognition on the All-Pro list in both 2018 (on the second team) and 2019 (on the first team).
