Celtics’ James Posey on Boston’s miracle comeback vs. the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 4 of the 2008 NBA Finals

A 35-14 deficit in the contest’s first quarter soon became a 24-point chasm by the second half of the game, and the Celtics’ hopes of taking a 3-1 series lead seemed out of the question.

While it might seem like it was preordained in retrospect, for a hot second on June 12, 2008, it seemed the Boston Celtics’ hopes to win Banner 17 might be about to go sideways when they fell into a deep hole early against the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 4 of the 2008 NBA Finals.

A 35-14 deficit in the first quarter soon became a 24-point chasm by the second half. The Celtics’ hopes of taking a 3-1 series lead seemed out of the question. But with the benefit of hindsight, we know that is not what happened. Boston instead mounted a historic comeback to win, 97-91.

To talk about that fateful night, former Celtic James Posey recently sat down to talk over the historic comeback with Basketball News.com.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear his memory of that magic night.

Kevin Garnett takes the temperature of 76ers basketball with old friend Sam Cassell

And of course, they also touched on their time together on the Celtics.

By now most fans of the Boston Celtics know the Philadelphia 76ers are one of a few Eastern Conference teams expected to contend for the 2023 NBA championship this summer. But just how good are the Sixers, really?

Hall of Fame member and former Celtic Kevin Garnett decided to get to the bottom of that question with former teammate and fellow 2008 title winner Sam Cassell on a recent episode of the Showtime Basketball “KG Certified” podcast. The duo chopped it up about the state of Philly basketball where Cassell is an assistant coach under former Boston head coach Doc Rivers.

And of course, they also touched on their time together on the Celtics.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what The Big Ticket had to say to Cassell, and get up to speed on what Boston might be facing this postseason.

What kind of head coach will Joe Mazzulla be on the court for the Boston Celtics in 2022-23?

The Celtics’ interim coach has given us some clues with his past.

What kind of head coach will Joe Mazzulla be on the court for the Boston Celtics in 2022-23?

We have heard plenty of testimonials of the sort of person he is and the character he has, how he can lead this team through a number of concerns, not the least of which is how he ended up in the job in the wake of the suspension of head coach Ime Udoka this offseason.

But we have heard little and seen about as much of what he can do with an NBA-Finals caliber roster, which he will helm not only as a manager of egos but also as a tactician expected to use his knowledge of the game to help Boston win.

To answer that question, the host of the “Box and 1” podcast, Adam Spinella, recently put together a video breaking down what we could expect from Mazzulla with the Celtics based on his past experience with Fairmont State, a Division II school Mazzulla coached before joining the Celtics.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to get an idea of what we might see from the West Virginia product on the other side of the clipboard.

How different can we expect interim Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla to be from Ime Udoka?

While on the surface, the answer might not seem so important, but could well end up being the difference between a title and another near miss.

How different can we expect interim Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla to be from his predecessor, suspended Celtics head coach Ime Udoka? In terms of their approach to X’s and O’s on the court, Udoka and Mazzulla are pretty similar. Both value defense highly, with the latter leaning into his skill as an offensive specialist to Udoka’s specialty of defense.

Each of them also approach coaching as more of a collaborative venture than a top-down relationship, but where do they diverge as coaches — and why? While on the surface the answer might not seem important, it could well end up being the difference between a title and another near miss.

The hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Beat” podcast recently talked over how Mazzulla will guide his new team as a coach — as well as what will stay the same.

Celtics alum Kenny Anderson talks his ECF runs with Paul Pierce

Still fond of his time in green and white, don’t miss this check-in with Mr. Chibbs himself.

Former Boston Celtics floor general Kenny Anderson, Hall of Fame small forward Paul Pierce, and fan favorite Celtics swingman Antoine Walker might not have been THE “Big Three” regardless of whether we mean the new or original version.

But Pierce became part of the former, and the trio were not an easy out. They terrorized the NBA’s Eastern Conference before the arrival of iconic big man Kevin Garnett and lethal sharpshooter Ray Allen set the Celtics on the path for Banner 17.

Anderson, a New York City point guard legend in his own right, recently sat down with the folks behind the Heavy “Celtics Collective” podcast to talk over his time with the team, and Anderson had plenty of stories to tell.

Still fond of his time in green and white, don’t miss this check-in with Mr. Chibbs himself.

Blake Griffin has ‘fit in quickly’ to the Boston Celtics, according to Al Horford

‘He’s one of us already,’ suggested Boston’s elder statesman.

It seems the elder statesman of the Boston Celtics is happy to have another veteran big man around. Forward Al Horford gave big man Blake Griffin the stamp of approval after practice on Monday.

“He’s a great guy to have around,” said Horford via CLNS. “He has a lot of perspective about the game; it’s been nice to have him around. He’s a vet that gets it; he wants to be a part of winning (and) he wants to do big things.”

Signed by the team to give Horford some support in the frontcourt — particularly while the team is without starting center Robert Williams — Griffin had a 7-point, 9-rebound preseason debut for the team on Friday.

“He’s fit in quickly; he’s one of us already,” explained Horford of the onetime Oklahoma standout’s near-seamless integration into Boston’s rotations thus far.

“(Griffin) fits in, and all of us are looking to take this journey together,” Horford added for emphasis.

Celtics interim head coach Joe Mazzulla gets Kemba Walker’s vote of approval

The Boston alum thinks the Celtics are in good hands this season.

The Boston Celtics might be starting a season in which they hope to contend for an NBA title with an untested interim head coach, Joe Mazzulla, but in the eyes of former Celtics floor general Kemba Walker,  Boston has itself a “great coach.” The former UConn standout made the comment in a postgame interview with NBC Boston Sports’ Abby Chin on Friday.

In attendance to see the Charlotte Hornets play the Celtics, two of his former teams, go at it in Greensboro, Walker spoke with Chin about the team’s new head coach for the 2022-23 season, the growth of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown and more.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what Walker thinks about his former team as it gears up for a title run.

How will the Boston Celtics use reserve point guard Malcolm Brogdon?

We have seen hints of what the Celtics might have in mind from what interim head coach Joe Mazzulla has been running during the team’s preseason games so far.

How will the Boston Celtics use reserve point guard Malcolm Brogdon in their rotations for the looming campaign?

We have seen hints of what the Celtics might have in mind based on what interim head coach Joe Mazzulla has been running during the team’s preseason games so far. The onetime Virginia player has been attacking the cup and then spraying it to shooters Grant Williams, Sam Hauser and Payton Pritchard.

But we have also heard from Mazzulla that we should not put too much stock into what we are seeing during preseason games in terms of rotations. So can we expect to see something like this in the regular season or have the examples we’ve seen so far just been wrinkles Boston can throw at opposing teams?

The hosts of the Heavy “Celtics Collective” podcast debated this question on a recent episode.

Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say.

Boston’s Marcus Smart thinks Draymond Green ‘made a mistake’ with the Jordan Poole fight

Smart knows a thing or two about intense feelings between teammates when things aren’t going as they should.

No stranger to being under the media microscope after events not of his own making brought unwanted attention to a team trying to get ready to contend for a title, Boston Celtics veteran point guard had thoughts about the incident between Golden State Warriors star forward Draymond Green and shooting guard Jordan Poole.

Smart talked about how often fiery moments happen behind the scenes at practice and reacted to Green punching Poole at practice last week. Smart said the Warriors swingman made a mistake as a leader and that it’ll take some professionalism to move on, as is always the case when things get physical between teammates.

The Flower Mound native also discussed his ankle, oblique and other physical ailments from the summer, and said he and the team’s other guards have been more involved in screening.

Celtics Lab 146: Catching up with Tacko Fall on his new book, the CBA, and ties to the Celtics

This interview has everything from the details behind his new book and how he likes his new team to the story of how he met Grant Williams (it involves a failed dunk).

Fans of the Boston Celtics know the story behind Tacko Fall’s journey from Senegal to the U.S. and making his way through the ranks to get to the NBA. He signed with the Celtics in 2019 after what was at times a harrowing journey filled with obstacles as he chased his dream of being a professional basketball player.

Now, the former UCF standout has penned a children’s book to inspire others who may feel the path toward their dreams is just too hard to travel. Fall’s book, “Tacko Fall: To New Heights,” is out in bookstores. It was co-written with agent Justin Haynes with art by renowned children’s book illustrator Reggie Brown.

Cameron Tabatabaie of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast caught up with Fall recently to talk about his book, his new team in the Chinese Basketball Association, his time in Boston, and the Celtics season to come.
