Arkansas earns commitment from Florida running back

Florida running back Isaiah Augustave committed to Arkansas football’s Class of 2023 earlier this week.

Skill positions have not yet been a priority for Arkansas’ 2023 recruiting class.

But Isaiah Augustave may be changing that.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound running back from Naples, Florida, committed to the Razorbacks earlier in the week, choosing Arkansas over Tennessee, Missouri, Kentucky and others.

Augustave ran for 950 yards and 16 touchdowns last year, his junior season. He is a three-star recruit who was on-campus in Fayetteville when he made his commitment public.

Arkansas has the seventh-ranked class in the country with its 12 commits. It’s the highest among all SEC schools. Augustine is just the second skill position player in the class. Quarterback Malachi Singleton from Kennesaw, Georgia, committed in late April.

Drew Sanders named Arkansas’ “key newcomer” from the Transfer Portal

Sanders will be a key addition to the Razorback defense with his incredible pass rush ability, says On3.

Arkansas Football received nine players from the Transfer Portal for the 2022 recruiting cycle, with each athlete adding an individual element that will make the Razorbacks better.

For linebacker [autotag]Drew Sanders[/autotag], his ability to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks’ provides a much-needed boost to the Razorbacks’ defense.

Out of all nine transfers, expect Sanders to be the “key newcomer” says Mike Huguenin of On3.

Huguenin named his picks for the key newcomer from the transfer portal for each program of the SEC West and says that the Alabama transfer barely beat out wide receiver [autotag]Jadon Haselwood[/autotag], a transfer from Oklahoma, for the top spot for the Razorbacks.

WR Jadon Haselwood, a transfer from Oklahoma, is getting a lot of attention, but Sanders’ pass-rush ability could be vital for the Hogs. Both Haselwood and Sanders are former five-star recruits; Haselwood was so-so at OU, while Sanders got squeezed out for playing time with the Tide. Arkansas had 25 sacks last season, but only 13 in the eight SEC games. Revving up that aspect of the defense is a must, and that’s why Sanders’ arrival is so important. Sanders (6-5, 232) has good size, is a solid athlete and holds up nicely against the run.

Sanders played in 12 games for Alabama, starting in three games at the beginning of the 2021 season. In his limited playing time with Alabama, Sanders recorded 24 tackles, with 2.5 for loss. The Denton, Texas native saw action in 11 games during the 2020 season, where he made nine tackles.

Jordan Walsh named best “two-way” player in 2022 class

ESPN’s Paul Biancardi gives a nod to one of the headliners in Arkansas’ 2022 recruiting class.

When you think of Arkansas Basketball’s 2022 recruiting class, there is no doubt that five-star and McDonald’s All-American [autotag]Jordan Walsh[/autotag] comes to mind.

Walsh is the no. 7 ranked small forward in the nation, and the no. 2 overall player from the state of Texas. He was one of three five stars to sign with Arkansas out of high school, joining fellow Texan [autotag]Anthony Black[/autotag] as well as [autotag]Nick Smith Jr[/autotag].

What makes Walsh stand out? His ability to excel on both sides of the ball. He does so well in both aspects, that ESPN’s Paul Biancardi has named Walsh as the best two-way player from the 2022 recruiting cycle.

Brandon Jenkins of 247sports says that Walsh is hard to play with defensively.

Walsh’s calling card may be on the defensive end where he is disruptive guarding the ball and contesting shots. He has a nose for the ball and looks to control the glass when motivated and he can lead the break after securing a defensive rebound.

Arkansas ended the 2022 recruiting cycle with the no. 2 class in the nation, behind only Duke. Among the class, were three five-stars, three four-stars, and five transfers.

Arkansas listed as finalist to land four-star CB Jaylon Braxton

Jaylon Braxton names Arkansas in his top-8 choices, and is set to name a destination in July.

The nation’s no. 5 rated recruiting class for the 2023 cycle could receive defensive help in the form of a back from Texas.

Jaylon Braxton, a four-star cornerback from Lone Star High School in Frisco, Texas, has announced his top-eight choices, and Arkansas makes the list.

Also in the tweet, Braxton reveals that he will name his college destination on July 9.

Braxton received an offer from Arkansas on March 4, which, at the time, was just his third offer from an SEC program behind Ole Miss and Vanderbilt.

Since then, Braxton has received five offers and has taken two official visits, one to Michigan State and another to California, according to 247sports. Currently, 247sports’ Crystal Ball prediction has Braxton heading to Baylor.

So far in the 2023 recruiting class, the Razorbacks have reeled in mostly offensive players. Out of the 11 commits, only five of those are defensive players.

Braxton is the no. 21 cornerback in the nation, and the no. 36 prospect in the state of Texas according to 247sports.

Arkansas makes top-10 list for Oklahoma product

Micah Tease, a 4-star athlete from Tulsa, is considering joining Arkansas’ already loaded 2023 signing class.

One of the nation’s most talented athletes is considering Arkansas.

On Thursday, [autotag]Micah Tease[/autotag], a four-star athlete for the 2023 class from Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, released his top-10 college choices with Arkansas making the cut.

Arkansas was not one of the first programs to offer Tease, but they are among the top schools to land him. The Razorbacks extended an offer to Tease on September 6, 2021, and Tease took an unofficial visit to Arkansas on September 11 for the Texas game at DWR Razorbacks Stadium.

Where will Tease end up? It is all dependent on which recruiting source you trust the most. If you look at 247sports, Tease has a Crystal Ball to Oklahoma, with the highest confidence coming from Oklahoma Insider Parker Thune.

But, as for On3, Tease has a 74.6% chance of committing to Arkansas.

Micah Tease is the no. 3 rated prospect from the state of Oklahoma, and the no. 11 overall athlete from the state of Oklahoma says 247sports. Arkansas currently holds the nation’s no. 5 ranked signing class for the 2023 cycle with 11 commits.

Arkansas Basketball lands Ricky Council from Transfer Portal

Arkansas lands reigning American Athletic Conference Sixth man of the Year winner Ricky Council.

Arkansas Basketball has picked up their fifth prospect from the transfer portal with the commitment of former Wichita State guard [autotag]Ricky Council[/autotag].

Council announced his top-6 schools on May 3, with Alabama, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, Kansas, and Iowa State joining Arkansas for consideration.

During his redshirt season at Wichita State, Council was awarded the American Athletic Conference Sixth man of the Year award for averaging 12.0 points and 5.4 rebounds per game with seven starts.

The best game of his season was against UCF on January 26, when he scored 31 points against the Knights. He shot 6-of-10 from the field and 3-of-4 from the beyond the three-point line.

Council is the 2nd transfer from Wichita State that Arkansas has landed in consecutive years. [autotag]Trey Wade[/autotag] was teammates with Council for a season before making the move to Arkansas. In his lone year as a Razorback, Wade averaged 3.6 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.

Arkansas in running to land safety from Alabama

TJ Metcalf, a three-star safety from Pinson Valley High School in metro Birmingham, has listed Arkansas among his top schools.

A three-star safety from the Yellowhammer State with strong SEC ties is considering Arkansas to be his college home.

[autotag]TJ Metcalf[/autotag], the No. 40 safety for the 2023 class from Pinson, Ala., released his top-10 over the weekend, and Arkansas made the cut. Along with Arkansas, Metcalf is considering Penn State, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Georgia, Florida State, Tennessee, Jackson State, and Ole Miss.

Arkansas offered Metcalf on February 7, and offered his younger brother Tevis 16 days later. The brothers went on a visit to Arkansas during the weekend of March 11.

Although Metcalf has not publicly stated that there is not a top school on his radar, there is one school to watch for, and that is Ole Miss.

Metcalf’s cousin, DK Metcalf, was a standout at Ole Miss, and currently plays wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks. During a visit to Tennessee earlier this year, Metcalf told David Johnson of 247sports that his cousin’s legacy at Ole Miss will not be a deciding factor.

“A lot of folks think it has a lot to do with it, which it does, but that’s not going to be really a deciding factor of where I go,” Metcalf told Johnson. “It’s just that they’re in the same boat as any other team. They just have to do more than what another team does,”

Arkansas’ 2023 recruiting class is ranked No. 6 according to 247sports. Among the 11 commitments in the class, one is from the state of Alabama. Dallas Young, a three-star corner back from Gardendale, Ala., ranks two spots above Metcalf in the state rankings at No. 23.

Arkansas among six programs in the running for Emoni Bates

Eric Musselman may not be done bringing in talent from the transfer portal just yet.

Since the conclusion of Arkansas Basketball’s season, head coach [autotag]Eric Musselman[/autotag] has made a splash in the transfer portal, landing four transfers including [autotag]Trevon Brazille[/autotag] from Missouri.

Could the 2023 roster take on another talented player from the transfer portal?

Emoni Bates, a small forward from Memphis, has listed Arkansas in his top-6 options for a transfer destination, Bates tells On3.

In a statement to On3, Bates is thankful for his time as a Memphis Tiger but is ready to find another home.

I’d like to thank Coach Penny, my teammates, and the entire coaching staff at the University of Memphis for giving me the opportunity to be a Tiger. Thank you Tiger Nation for embracing me and all of you who supported our team throughout this season. With that being said, I have decided to enter the transfer portal.

Bates, the No. 1 overall prospect from the Class of 2022, averaged 9.7 points per game in his freshman campaign at Memphis before missing most of the season due to a back injury that he suffered in late January.

Along with Arkansas, Bates is considering Michigan, DePaul, Seton Hall, Louisville, and Eastern Michigan.

Arkansas’ 2023 recruiting class receives bump thanks to Singleton’s commitment

Malachi Singleton’s commitment to Arkansas football gives the Hogs a bump in recruiting rankings.

Arkansas found their missing piece to an already impressive recruiting class for the 2023 cycle when [autotag]Malachi Singleton[/autotag] announced his commitment on April 25.

Because of that, Arkansas’ recruiting class for 2023 has moved up a spot from No. 6 to No. 5 according to 247sports.

With Singleton’s commitment, Arkansas is now up to 11 pledges for the 2023 cycle, tied with Penn State for second-most in the top-25. Arkansas sits behind the Nittany Lions, Georgia, Texas Tech, and Notre Dame in the current top five.

Singleton, a four-star quarterback from North Cobb High School in Acworth, Ga., brings a dual threat attack to Arkansas. In his junior campaign, Singleton completed 166 passes for 2,316 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also scored 25 additional touchdowns on the ground, rushing for 1,018 yards.

Singleton becomes the fifth four-star recruit to commit to the 2023 class, joining tight end’s [autotag]Luke Hasz[/autotag], [autotag]Shamar Easter[/autotag], and [autotag]Jaden Hamm[/autotag], as well as offensive lineman [autotag]Luke Brown[/autotag].

Four-star quarterback Malachi Singleton commits to Arkansas

Arkansas grabs their first quarterback of the 2023 recruiting class in four-star Malachi Singleton.

One of the top recruiting classes in the 2023 cycle just found their missing piece, a reliable signal caller.

That’s what head coach [autotag]Sam Pittman[/autotag] and the Arkansas Razorbacks received on Monday, when four-star dual-threat quarterback [autotag]Malachi Singleton[/autotag] “called the hogs”, making his commitment to the program live on CBS Sports.

Singleton, a quarterback from North Cobb High School in Acworth, Ga., completed 168 of 226 passes for 2,348 yards during his junior season in 2021 while rushing for an additional 1,037 yards. He was difficult to keep out of the end zone, as he combined to score 49 touchdowns.

Andrew Ivans of 247sports says that Singleton has a knack for making big plays:

Has plenty of experience running RPOs and is the type of quarterback that’s a threat to score almost anytime he calls his own number as he’s difficult to bring down both in the box and out in the open field. Pocket awareness is a strength at this stage in his development as his internal clock will bail him out of trouble more times than not. Shows some touch on his deep shots and understands how to step into throws in order to generate velocity.

Singleton is the first quarterback to commit to Arkansas for 2023, the class that was ranked sixth-best in the country prior to Singleton’s commitment. He is also the second player from the Atlanta-metro area to commit to Arkansas, joining linebacker Everett Roussaw of Cedar Grove High School in Ellenwood, Ga.

Singleton ranks as the No. 24 quarterback for the Class of 2023, and the No. 19 prospect in all of Georgia. Singleton chose Arkansas over UCF, Miami, and in-state program and defending national champion, Georgia.
