AFC South news round-up: Texans facing lawsuit, Jags love Pederson

We check in on the Titans’ division rivals in our latest AFC South news round-up.

In our Fourth of July edition of the AFC South news round-up, we’re taking a look at some of the biggest stories from the past week pertaining to the Tennessee Titans’ division rivals, the Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans.

In Houston, the Texans are now officially wrapped up in the Deshaun Watson legal situation. One of Watson’s accusers has filed a lawsuit against the team related to the alleged sexual misconduct of the Cleveland Browns quarterback.

For the Colts, we have a few articles that give some insight into what Indy may need to improve ahead of 2022, and one of their biggest needs mirrors Tennessee’s.

In Jacksonville, the honeymoon with head coach Doug Pederson continues, as players rave about what he has brought to Jacksonville thus far.

AFC South news round-up: Lawrence’s signing bonus, Texans still paying (a lot) for Cunningham

Jags QB Trevor Lawrence’s signing bonus was a hot topic of conversation last week.

It’s that time of the week again when we take a trip around the AFC South to check in on the Tennessee Titans’ division rivals, the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars.

As was the case with the Titans, we learned the training camp start dates of the Texans, Colts and Jaguars.

In Indianapolis: there is a sizeable amount of hype for second-year pass-rusher Kwity Paye. Also, one Colts writer believes Derrick Henry is the best running back the Colts will face in 2022 — and he’s right.

In Jacksonville: there was some controversy surrounding the signing bonus of Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence, but that has since been cleared up. Jacksonville is also getting closer to building its new headquarters and practice facility.

In Houston: offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton wants to get more out of the run game in 2022, and the Texans are still paying a pretty penny for linebacker Zach Cunningham, who is now in Nashville.

AFC South news round-up: Willis abruptly retires, Boselli’s HOF supporters draw criticism

The Colts were dealt a big blow last week when their starting safety unexpectedly retired.

In our weekly trip around the AFC South, we’re once again keeping tabs on the Tennessee Titans’ division rivals, the Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts.

In Indy, the Colts saw their starting safety Khari Willis unexpectedly announce his retirement this past week. Some light was also shed on linebacker Darius Leonard’s recent back surgery.

The supporters of former Jaguars offensive lineman and 2022 Hall of Fame nominee Tony Boselli drew criticism from Hall of Famer Bruce Smith for how they went about lobbying for Boselli’s enshrinement.

Texans head coach Lovie Smith was slapped with a hefty fine after it was discovered he broke rules during organized team activities. Also, Texans general manager Nick Caserio is pleased with what he’s seeing from quarterback Davis Mills ahead of his second season in the NFL.

AFC South news round-up: Texans joining Watson lawsuits, Leonard has surgery

The Texans are expected to be added as defendants in the Deshaun Watson lawsuits.

Come along for the ride as we check in on the Tennessee Titans’ AFC South rivals, the Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars.

This past week, the Colts held their mandatory minicamp, running from June 7 to June 9. The Titans, Texans and Jaguars will all begin theirs this coming week.

One of the biggest stories coming out of Indianapolis last week was star linebacker Darius Leonard undergoing surgery on his back. The Colts are also dealing with a disgruntled cornerback in Kenny Moore.

In Houston, the Texans are now in legal hot water after being added as a defendant in the civil lawsuits alleging sexual misconduct against their former quarterback, Cleveland Browns signal-caller, Deshaun Watson.

In Jacksonville, the Jaguars have already lost one of their outside linebackers for the 2022 campaign, but did get good news on one of their receivers.

AFC South news round-up: Leonard can’t shake injury, fans pissed at Tunsil

Colts LB Darius Leonard can’t seem to shake an injury he dealt with during the 2021 campaign.

Grab your Sunday morning coffee and take a trip around the AFC South with us to check in on the Tennessee Titans’ division rivals, the Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans.

In Indianapolis, the Colts have multiple contract issues on their hands with key players, and Indy is trying to figure out what’s going on with All-Pro linebacker Darius Leonard, who continues to be hampered by injury.

Jaguars 2020 first-round pick and edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson didn’t mince words about his feelings after the team drafted fellow edge rusher Travon Walker with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft.

Meanwhile, Texans fans are pissed off about left tackle Laremy Tunsil being absent from voluntary organized team activities. Thank goodness Titans fans don’t do the same thing (sarcasm).

Another week, another trip around the AFC South to see what the Tennessee Titans’ rivals — the Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans — are up to after the first week of OTAs.

In Indianapolis, the Colts added a new veteran quarterback to the roster as an insurance policy for starter Matt Ryan. Also, Colts cornerback Kenny Moore II has become disgruntled over his contract situation.

In Jacksonville, 2021 first-round pick and running back Travis Etienne has been cleared to take part in practice, and quarterback Trevor Lawrence is pleased with his newest wide receiver and head coach early on.

The Texans have been impressed with new offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton thus far, and wide receiver Brandin Cooks believes players are buying in as a whole.

The Colts’ top pick had a rough first day of rookie minicamp, so the Titans weren’t alone in having a rookie receiver struggle on Day 1.

In Jacksonville, there’s more bad news for the Jags, who are currently being sued by their former kicker — and yes, Urban Meyer is involved.

In Houston, the Texans added a pair of veteran edge rushers to help bolster their defense ahead of the 2022 campaign.

AFC South round-up: 2021 draft classes, Khan talks Meyer’s firing, more

The AFC South saw an infusion of new talent coming into the division last week, as the Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts all added to their rosters via the 2022 NFL draft.

The Titans and Texans added the most players via the draft in the AFC South with nine, while the Colts had eight and the Jaguars had seven. We’ll be taking a look at the classes of the Colts, Jags and Texans here shortly.

In addition, Jags owner Shad Khan went into detail about why he let Urban Meyer go, and the explanation probably won’t surprise you.

We’ll also take a look at what Indy’s owner said about Matt Ryan possibly being a long-term solution, and why one writer believes the 2024 NFL draft will be the one that makes Houston a contender.

Texans sign former Titans QB Kevin Hogan

Former Titans QB Kevin Hogan has signed with the Texans.

Former Tennessee Titans quarterback Kevin Hogan has found a new home with a division rival. The Houston Texans announced on Wednesday that they have signed Hogan. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

A former fifth-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016, Hogan spent the 2021 campaign on the practice squad of the Titans. He appeared in one game but didn’t record a stat.

Hogan was re-signed by Tennessee earlier this offseason to compete with Logan Woodside for the backup quarterback job, but was waived after the team drafted Malik Willis in the third round of the 2022 NFL draft.

The Stanford product last saw significant game action in his two years with the Cleveland Browns in 2016-17. He appeared in eight games over the span, completing 59.4 percent of his passes for 621 yards and four touchdowns to seven interceptions.

Hogan now joins a quarterbacks room in Houston that also includes Davis Mills, Kyle Allen and Jeff Driskel.
