AFC South standings: Titans tied atop division with Jags after Week 4

After nabbing their second win of 2022, the Titans are tied for the best record in the AFC South.

After nabbing their second win of the season in Week 4 over the Indianapolis Colts (1-2-1), the Tennessee Titans (2-2) are now tied atop the AFC South going into Week 5.

The Jacksonville Jaguars (2-2), who sat atop the division alone going into Week 4, lost their game against the Philadelphia Eagles, paving the way for the Titans hold a share of first place.

The Jaguars are technically still in first place thanks to a superior conference record, but it’s a bit early to start looking at tie-breakers right now.

The tough start to the season continued for the Houston Texans (0-3-1), who dropped their road contest against the Los Angeles Chargers, 34-24, keeping them in the cellar of the AFC South.

Looking ahead to Week 5, the Titans will draw the Washington Commanders, who fell to 1-3 on the year with a loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The Jags will host the Texans, while the Colts will hit the road to take on the Broncos.

AFC South standings: Titans out of cellar after Week 3

The Titans climbed out of the AFC South cellar with their Week 3 win over the Raiders.

The Tennessee Titans have climbed out of the AFC South cellar after earning their first win of the 2022 campaign over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3, 24-22.

With the victory, the Titans jump the Houston Texans, who lost to the Chicago Bears, 23-20, in the standings, leaving Houston where we all expected them to be at the start of the season.

The other two AFC South squads had two of the more surprising wins of Week 3.

After showing no life in Week 2, the Indianapolis Colts were able to upset the Kansas City Chiefs, 20-17. Meanwhile, the Jacksonville Jaguars not only upset the Los Angeles Chargers, they crushed them, 38-10.

Who are these Jaguars, huh?

Now, a look at the standings going into Week 4:

1. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-1)

2. Indianapolis Colts (1-1-1)

3. Tennessee Titans (1-2)

4. Houston Texans (0-2-1)

We’ll have a major AFC South showdown in Week 4, as the Colts will host the Titans in Indianapolis for the first of two meetings in three weeks. The winner will secure second place and could have a share or better of first.

The Jags will have an incredibly difficult matchup on the road in Week 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles, but if the Jags can win they will maintain their spot atop the division. The Texans will host the Chargers.

AFC South standings: Titans in the cellar after Week 2

The Titans are officially in the AFC South cellar after two games.

The Tennessee Titans are officially in the cellar of what is shaping up to be the worst division in the NFL in 2022 after their 41-7 blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills on Monday night.

The good news is the rest of the division isn’t doing so hot, either. The Indianapolis Colts were terrible once again in Week 2 and were shutout by the Jacksonville Jaguars, 24-0, keeping them winless after two games.

Meanwhile, the Houston Texans were unable to take advantage of the Denver Broncos’ ineptitude and fell, 16-9.

Here’s a look at where things stand in the AFC South going into Week 3.

I didn’t have the Titans and Colts being in the bottom two spots in the division at any point this season on my 2022 bingo card, but here we are.

Looking ahead to Week 3, the Titans will host the down-and-out Las Vegas Raiders, who suffered a brutal loss in Week 2 and are also in the cellar of their division.

The Texans are in a good bounce-back spot on the road against the Chicago Bears, the Jacksonville Jaguars will travel to the west coast to take on the Los Angeles Chargers, and the Colts will host the Kansas City Chiefs.

Entire AFC South remains winless after Week 1

Not a single AFC South team secured a win in Week 1 — and two of them played against each other.

With Week 1 in the books, the AFC South is a sloppy mess, as the Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars all failed to secure a win on Sunday.

And that was with two AFC South teams playing one another!

That’s right, the Colts and Texans, who met in Houston in Week 1, tied their game. The Colts actually trailed 20-3 going into the fourth quarter, made an impressive comeback, but ultimately failed to win in overtime after Rodrigo Blankenship missed a 42-yard field goal at the end of the extra frame.

We had a good laugh at the Colts’ expense while they were trailing, and even after they ultimately tied, but that laughter lasted just a few hours because Tennessee went on to implode against what was thought to be a lesser opponent in the New York Giants, losing 21-20.

Jacksonville also suffered a pretty crushing defeat on Sunday at the hands of the Washington Commanders.

After falling behind 14-3 in the first half, the Jags clawed their way back and had a 22-20 lead with over six minutes left. However, Carson Wentz and the Commanders orchestrated a 90-yard drive to pull out the win, 28-22.

The NFC West is very likely to join the AFC South as a winless division. The Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals all lost, and the Seattle Seahawks will need a miracle to beat the Denver Broncos.

However, none of those teams played one another, which makes the AFC South’s ineptitude much more impressive than the NFC West’s.

In Week 2, the Jags will host the Colts, while the Texans will hit the road to take on the Broncos. Tennessee will have a very difficult test on the road against the Buffalo Bills on “Monday Night Football.”

Jim Irsay on expectations for Colts in 2022: ‘It’s about Tennessee’

Colts owner Jim Irsay is hellbent on dethroning the Titans in the AFC South in 2022.

The Tennessee Titans are coming off two straight division titles, something the franchise hadn’t done since its days in the AFL as the Houston Oilers.

And Tennessee’s success in the AFC South the past few years has come at the expense of their rival, the Indianapolis Colts. The Titans beat the Colts twice last season, and Tennessee has won three of its last four meetings with Indianapolis over the last two years.

Adding insult to injury, not only did the Colts fail to win the division in 2021, they also missed the playoffs entirely following a late-season collapse that saw them lose their last two games while needing just one to get in.

Colts owner Jim Irsay didn’t mince words earlier this offseason when talking about his team’s lack of success against the Titans, saying Tennessee has “dominated the division over us.”

When asked about his expectations for the Colts in 2022, Irsay made it quite clear that dethroning the Titans is at the top of Indy’s list.

“It’s about Tennessee,” Irsay said, per Stephen Holder of ESPN. “It’s about winning the division. It’s about going against those guys who have been very tough and do a great job there getting their players ready to play football in a tough, physical way. So, it’s always tough going against those guys, but we know that’s what we have to do. That’s what we have to overcome if we want to get where we want to get.”

Despite Tennessee’s recent success, both teams are very even going into 2022. The Titans and Colts both have a ton of question marks on the offensive side of the ball, but are set to sport two of the better defenses.

This should be a neck-and-neck race all season and we believe both teams will finish with a 10-7 record, but the Titans will grab their third-straight division title via tiebreaker.

A look at some of the headlines from last week pertaining to the Titans’ AFC South rivals.

With the first week-plus of NFL training camps in the books, it’s time to catch up with what’s going on with the Tennessee Titans’ AFC South rivals, the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Jags made their preseason debut in the Hall of Fame game on Thursday night, a contest they lost to the Las Vegas Raiders, 27-11. However, the Jags did see their top pick flash in the losing effort, and the franchise was also able to celebrate its first Hall of Famer this weekend.

In Indianapolis, the Colts have been challenging their top pick in training camp by pitting him against a former Defensive Player of the Year.

In Houston, the Texans are liking what they’re seeing from their second-year quarterback, who is also displaying strong chemistry with the team’s No. 1 receiver.

With another Sunday upon us, it’s time to take a look around the AFC South to see what the Tennessee Titans’ division rivals — the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars — are up to.

This past week was an exciting one for NFL fans and media like, as training camps around the league kicked off.

In the AFC South, Jacksonville took the practice field first on Monday, while Tennessee and Indianapolis had their first practices on Wednesday. Houston had the latest start, with its first practice on Saturday.

We found out some unfortunate news in Houston, as Texans rookie wideout John Metchie revealed he has been diagnosed with cancer and will likely miss the 2022 campaign.

In Indianapolis, a Colts linebacker Darius Leonard is looking to go by a different first name. In Jacksonville, edge rusher Josh Allen threw some shade at Urban Meyer, and deservedly so.

AFC South news round-up: Jags bonding, Colts’ Leonard among 4 on PUP

Darius Leonard is one of four Colts to go on the PUP list ahead of training camp.

As the Tennessee Titans prepare to embark on training camp this week, the rest of the AFC South — the Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts — will do the same.

Like the Titans, the Colts saw their rookies report on July 23, and then the veteran will show up on July 26. The Texans have the same veteran report date, but rookies show up on July 24. The Jags will see all of their players report on July 24.

Ahead of training camp, Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is getting together with teammates not only to work out, but to bond as well.

In Indianapolis, the Colts placed four players on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, one of whom is their best player on defense.

In Houston, one writer believes the Texans could be an option for a future Hall of Fame head coach down the road if they can right the ship.

We are currently in the dead time of year, so there isn’t a lot going on league-wide. Thankfully, the dead time will end later this month, when training camps around the NFL begin in the last week of July.

In Indianapolis, Colts fans are surely smiling at the fact that one NFL Network analyst picked them as a Super Bowl sleeper. Titans Fans who get frustrated with the national media won’t like that one.

The Jaguars have been facing a lawsuit from former kicker Josh Lambo, but the team recently filed a motion to dismiss it.

Meanwhile, the Texans must be salivating over the idea of Jacoby Brissett possibly having a hand in the placement of one of their 2023 draft picks.
