AFC South news round-up: Colts linked to Levis; Jags on par with Chiefs?

In our latest trip around the AFC South, we check out the “buzz” surrounding the Colts and Will Levis, among many other stories.

Welcome to the Easter addition of our AFC South round-up, where we once again check in on the Tennessee Titans’ division rivals, the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts.

We start in Indy, where there has been some buzz around the league about the Colts being interested in Kentucky quarterback Will Levis. Many Titans fans want no part of Levis at all, so seeing him go to Indy would no doubt be a welcomed sight, especially at No. 4 overall.

In Jacksonville, the vibes are high both inside and outside the building, with one ESPN analyst believing the Jags are on par with some of the best offenses in the NFL. As much as I hate to say it, he might be right.

Check out those stories and many, many more as we take our latest trip around the division to see what the rest of the teams are up to.

Jaguars waive ex-Titans RB Mekhi Sargent

Former Titans RB Mekhi Sargent was waived by the Jaguars on Monday.

Former Tennessee Titans running back and 2021 undrafted free agent, Mekhi Sargent, is set to be looking for a new home.

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced on Monday that they have waived the Iowa product, who signed a futures deal with the team back in January. He’ll hit waivers but will become a free agent if unclaimed.

Sargent spent all of 2022 with the Jags on their practice squad but didn’t manage to see the field.

The 25-year-old was one of the bigger surprises on the Titans’ initial 53-man roster in 2021 after he played well during the preseason. He appeared in three games for Tennessee that year, but played predominantly on special teams.

He also had stints with the Jags and Los Angeles Rams after being waived by the Titans, playing in a total of four games combined with those two.

With the Titans having just Hassan Haskins, Julius Chestnut and Jonathan Ward behind Derrick Henry, a reunion between Tennessee and Sargent wouldn’t be surprising.

AFC South news round-up: Lamar Jackson, draft interests in common, more

In our latest round-up, Lamar Jackson is the subject of a few stories, and it appears the AFC South squads have some draft interests in common.

With a new week comes a new AFC South news round-up, where we are chock full of stories about the Tennessee Titans’ division rivals, the Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans.

With the news the Titans are wearing their Houston Oilers throwbacks in 2023, there remains a chance the team could wear them against the Texans. One writer believes it would be a showing of respect for them not to.

With the 2023 NFL draft less than four weeks away, rumors continue to swirl about which teams are interested in which prospects — and the AFC South squads have some common interests.

Like the Titans, the Colts have been linked to Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson via speculation, but Indy’s general manager has actually touched on the subject and isn’t ruling out a pursuit.

Check out those stories about the Titans’ rivals and much, much more in a jam-packed AFC South news round-up.

Colts sign ex-Titans RB Darrynton Evans

Former Titans RB Darrynton Evans is back in the AFC South.

Former Tennessee Titans running back Darrynton Evans is returning to the AFC South. The Indianapolis Colts announced on Friday they have signed Evans to a contract, the terms of which were not disclosed.

Indy signing Evans comes on the heels of the team bringing him in for a workout the same day.

A former third-round pick of the Titans in 2020, Evans simply didn’t pan out in Tennessee, mostly thanks to his inability to stay healthy. In all, Evans saw action in just six games over two seasons before being let go last March.

He played in a career-high six games in 2022 as a member of the Chicago Bears and tallied 14 carries for 64 scoreless yards while also adding one carry for 33 yards.

The Appalachian State product was part of what turned out to be an abysmal 2020 draft class. Kristian Fulton and Chris Jackson are the only ones remaining on the roster from that group.

Ex-Titans RB Darrynton Evans to work out for Colts

Former Titans RB Darrynton Evans has a workout with the Colts on Friday.

Former Tennessee Titans third-round pick and running back Darrynton Evans is set to have a work out with the Indianapolis Colts. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Evans will meet with the Colts on Friday to show his stuff.

The Appalachian State product spent the 2022 campaign with the Chicago Bears, where he tallied 14 carries for 64 yards and one catch for 33 yards in six games (no starts).

Prior to his stint in Chicago, Evans was a 2020 selection of Tennessee, but like too many Titans picks in recent years, he didn’t pan out. Evans simply couldn’t stay healthy and was off the team after two years.

Of that disastrous 2020 class, only two players remain on the Titans’ roster in second-round pick Kristian Fulton and seventh-round pick Chris Jackson, who was waived and then brought back last season before getting hurt.

Jackson likely isn’t long for this roster, and Fulton is on the hot seat going into a contract year after injury issues over his first three.

AFC South news round-up: What Titans’ rivals have done this offseason

We catch up with what the Titans’ AFC South rivals are doing in free agency in this week’s round-up.

With two weeks of free agency in the books, it’s time to catch up on what the Tennessee Titans’ AFC South rivals — the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars — have been up to.

In this edition of our AFC South news round-up, we begin with listing all of the moves the Colts, Texans and Jaguars have made. The Texans in particular have been incredibly busy adding players.

In other news, it doesn’t look like the Colts are going to pursue Lamar Jackson, and the team apparently doesn’t think highly enough of any quarterback prospect to try and move up in the draft.

In Jacksonville, there’s a chance that the Jags and Calais Campbell reunite in 2023, which would be bad news for the Titans’ offensive line. Meanwhile, the Texans made two big moves last week.

Read about those stories and more as we take our latest trip around the AFC South.

AFC South news round-up: Texans stripped of pick, Jags’ Ridley expresses remorse

We take a trip around the AFC South to catch up with the Titans’ division rivals ahead of free agency.

With the start of free agency rapidly approaching, we’re taking a trip around the AFC South to see what the Tennessee Titans’ division rivals, the Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans, are up to.

The unofficial start of free agency is Monday, when the legal tampering period begins. Then, on Wednesday, which is the start of the new league years, players can start officially signing contracts.

After free agency comes the draft in late April, where the Texans now have one less pick after violating league rules. Speaking of the draft, the Colts and Texans now have another quarterback-needy team in front of them.

After his reinstatement from a year-long gambling suspension, Jags wideout Calvin Ridley expressed remorse for his actions, and he went into detail about how he battled depression and anxiety during his time in Atlanta.

Check out those stories and more in our latest AFC South news round-up.

Report: Ex-Titans WR Robert Woods signing with Texans

Former Titans WR Robert Woods is reportedly signing with the Texans.

Former Tennessee Titans wide receiver Robert Woods is reportedly staying in the AFC South after being cut recently.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Houston Texans are signing Woods to a two-year, $15.25 million deal, with $10 million guaranteed and a max value of $17 million.

Woods is coming off a down season in 2022, his first since tearing his ACL. The veteran wideout managed to lead the Titans in receiving yards, but that wasn’t saying much. He also struggled to get separation, and with drops.

With Woods accounting for a big cap hit in 2023, it was a no brainer for the Titans to let him go, and it sure didn’t seem to bother the 30-year-old.

Now, the Titans will have to face Woods twice per year as long as he’s in Houston, but if what we saw in 2022 was any indication of what to expect, the Titans don’t have much to worry about.

AFC South news round-up: Jags had rat problem; Colts, Texans talk trading up

Jaguars players reported that the team had a rat infestation during the 2022 season.

It’s Sunday again, which means we’re taking a look at the biggest headlines from around the Tennessee Titans’ division to keep up with their AFC South rivals, the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Like the Titans, the other three teams in the division have begun making moves to prepare themselves for the offseason, which will really kick off in earnest on March 13, the first day of the legal-tampering window.

After free agency comes the 2023 NFL draft, where both the Texans and Colts are expected to pursue the top two quarterbacks. The general managers of both squads addressed that subject last week at the combine.

Just when things started looking up for the Jaguars, it was revealed last week that the team might have to make hiring a better exterminator a point of emphasis this offseason.

Check out those stories and more as we take a pretty lengthy trip around the AFC South to see what the Titans’ rivals are up to.

AFC South news round-up: Jags trying to clear cap space, Texans finalize coaching staff

Our latest trip around the AFC South to check in on the Titans’ division rivals, the Colts, Jaguars and Texans.

It’s Sunday again, which means it’s time to check in on the Tennessee Titans’ AFC South — the Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans — to see what they were up to last week.

With this being one of the quieter times of the offseason, there wasn’t much to talk about as we prepare for the craziness of roster cuts and then free agency over the next few weeks.

Of course, the Titans have already begun the former.

The Jaguars were busy this past week both re-signing and restructuring a few players, with a few of those moves clearing some much-needed cap space. As of this writing, the Jaguars are $12.4 million over the cap, which isn’t ideal for a team looking to take that next step in 2023.

In Houston, new head coach DeMeco Ryan has finalized his staff, and new Colts head coach Shane Steichen revealed who will be calling the plays for Indianapolis’ offense.

Check out those stories and more below.
