WATCH: Paul Allen’s emphatic in-game reactions are priceless

The Vikings have the best in the business

The Minnesota Vikings have one of the best play-by-play guys in the business and this Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills is further proof that they do without question.

Paul Allen has been calling Minnesota Vikings games since the 2002 season and has made some of the best calls in NFL history including the 2003 season finale (Nate Poole), Brett Favre’s interception in the 2009 NFC Championship Game, Blair Walsh’s miss in the 2015 Wild Card Game against the Seattle Seahawks and of course the Minneapolis Miracle.

On Sunday afternoon, the Vikings caught Allen’s emphatic reactions to the big moments at the end of the game and they are every bit as good as the other legendary calls.

We are truly blessed to have such a great play-by-play announcer for the Vikings.

Justin Jefferson named Week 10 NFC Offensive Player of the Week

He took over the game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday

After a spectacular performance against the Buffalo Bills, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for week 10.

With this award, Jefferson becomes the third Vikings to win player of the week with Za’Darius Smith and Greg Joseph also winning their respective awards.

Jefferson was lights out against the top-scoring defense in the Buffalo Bills. On 16 targets, Jefferson amassed 10 receptions for 197 yards and a touchdown. That stat line included arguably the greatest catch in the history of the National Football League.

While the defense made huge plays, the Vikings don’t win the game without Jefferson and his ability to be clutch when the Vikings needed it the most.

His ability to take over a game in the biggest of moments is what separates him from the rest of the league. He is also on pace to have the NFL’s first season with 2,000 receiving yards and his gear is on display at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Vikings vs. Bills dominates the Twin Cities market

The fan interest in the Vikings is extremely high right now

The Minnesota Vikings are one of the best teams in the National Football League and proved it on Sunday with a 33-30 win over the Buffalo Bills in overtime. They aren’t only playing great football, but they are drawing in huge ratings.

Locally, the Vikings do incredibly well which is why more often than not, they are the only game in the time slot in which they are playing. It was a good thing this Sunday as they gathered a share of 80. The share is percentage of all viewers that watched a certain program.

Numbers like these aren’t just good but rather great. Being that dominant in your local market is a great sign for business and fan interest is at a very high level.

Vikings Film Room: Illegal contact causes Kirk Cousins’ first interception

Cousins’ first interception was a result of circumstance, not decision-making

The Minnesota Vikings found a way to beat the Buffalo Bills 33-30 in overtime, but they had some mistakes early on that put them in a hole. One of those was an interception by Kirk Cousins as he misfired a pass to K.J. Osborn down the field.

The play is one that is worth looking at deeper because it’s not as simple as it appears.

The Vikings run a three-man progression on this play with Adam Thielen running an out route at the top of the screen, Justin Jefferson running a crosser from the slot and Osborn runs the backside dig.

The defense appears to be running QQH (quarters nearside, cover-2 farside) and this is a good play to beat that. The out route is the last in the progression and, while it’s open right away, it’s covered by the time Cousins would get to it.

What he does see is Osborn about to run open into an open hole in the zone. All he has to do is get by Demar Hamlin and it’s an easy pitch and catch. Unfortunately, it’s not that easy.

Hamlin commits illegal contact by getting himself in position to blatantly disrupt Osborn’s path. That knocks him off axis, which slows him down just enough to cause Cousins to fire off-target for the interception by Christian Benford.

Should the penalty have been thrown on Hamlin? Probably, although throughout the context of how the refs called the game, it makes sense that they didn’t. I would have called it personally but it’s just another item in the line of multiple officiating mistakes.

As much grief as Cousins gets for his decision-making, this one isn’t on him in the slightest, unlike his second interception.

Eric Kendricks’ fumble recovery was an incredibly rare play

The Vikings found another unique way to win

The Minnesota Vikings figured out a way to beat the Buffalo Bills on Sunday with an improbably 33-30 victory in overtime. It was the first time the Bills had blown a 14+ point lead at home since they were in the AFL on November 10th, 1968.

That wasn’t the only abnormality in the game. The fumble recovery for a touchdown by linebacker Eric Kendricks was also incredibly rare as a trailing team hadn’t had a go-ahead, non-offensive touchdown for the first time since 1986.

That game in 1986 was Colts vs. Falcons, as the Colts’ Eugene Daniel scored on a punt block touchdown with just 20 seconds remaining.

Not only are the Vikings good, but they are finding unique ways to win football games.
