LB Ola Adeniyi fails physical, not signed by the Steelers

The Steelers have to look elsewhere for a pass rusher.

It had been previously reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers had signed outside linebacker Ola Adeniyi after his release from the Tennessee Titans. However, according to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, Adeniyi failed his physical and will not be signed by the Steelers.

The hope was that Adeniyi could come in and bolster a struggling Steelers pass rush. With Adeniyi out of the mix, look for the Steelers to try to bring in another player quickly ahead of this week’s game against the Carolina Panthers. If the team is unsuccessful, it will fall on Jamir Jones to fill that role.

Starting outside linebacker T.J. Watt has not played up to the level we have become accustomed to because he has dealt with a multitude of injuries.

On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced they are placing defensive lineman Chris Wormley on IR. Wormley suffered a knee injury in Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens and it is going to require surgery.

To replace Wormley on the roster, Pittsburgh signed defensive tackle Jonathan Marshall from the New York Jets practice squad and placed him on the 53-man roster. This week the Steelers take on the Carolina Panthers on the road and their record currently sits at 5-8.

4 Steelers we want to see more of for the rest of the season

It is time to see what the Steelers have with some of these young guys.

The 2022 NFL season comes to a merciful end for the Pittsburgh Steelers in just over a month. No one expected the season to be a breeze in the first season after Ben Roethlisberger. The Steelers find themselves at 5-8 with nothing to play for but pride. It might be time to start thinking about the offseason and along those lines, here are four guys we want to see more of in these final four games.

Steelers K Chris Boswell and CB William Jackson III eligible to come off IR

The Steelers could get some help this week.

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media in his regularly scheduled press conference on Tuesday ahead of this week’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. In his presser, Tomlin offered a brief injury update but did make note of two players who are eligible to come off of IR this week.

Tomlin wasn’t going to share any information on where the team is with activating either kicker Chris Boswell or cornerback William Jackson III.

Boswell played the first seven games of the season and went 12-for-16 on field goals and 9-for-9 on extra points. Boswell was placed on IR on November 10 with a groin injury.

The Steelers worked a trade with the Washington Commanders at the trade deadline back in early November but a back injury has delayed his Steelers debut this season.

With Boswell out of the lineup, Matthew Wright has handled the kicking duties. In the case of Jackson you can’t miss what you’ve never had so the defense has marched on waiting for him to show up.

4 roster mistakes the Steelers must fix in the offseason

The Steelers misjudged multiple positions in the offseason and those needs will have to be addressed when the season is over.

Going into the 2022 season, the Pittsburgh Steelers put together what they believed was going to be a competitive roster. Now, after 10 games there’s no doubt this is not the case. Here are the four roster mistakes the Steelers made in the previous offseason that must be corrected once the season is over.

Steelers QB Kenny Pickett has a plan to get WR Diontae Johnson going on offense

Kenny Pickett has some ideas to help Diontae Johnson but will it matter?

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbydbzmnr1bhxef player_id=none image=https://steelerswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

At this point, the Pittsburgh Steelers offense is only consistent in being inconsistent. This is particularly true when it comes to the passing game. Pittsburgh is working through the growing pains of rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett but he isn’t getting much help.

Pittsburgh gave wide receiver Diontae Johnson a two-year contract extension worth $36.71 million. That’s WR No. 1 money but 51 receptions for 456 receiving yards and no touchdowns doesn’t exactly scream top receiver. But Pickett understands why Johnson is struggling and has ideas about how to create more opportunities.

“If he’s getting doubled, it’s tough to get him the ball. They know how great of a player he is,” Pickett said. “I think if we move him around and don’t keep him in the same spot, it’s a great way to get him some opportunities.”

Comments like this put it right back on the Steelers coaches. Offensive coordinator Matt Canada has taken plenty of heat this season for his playcalling and this is just another example of how he fails to understand how the offense works.

The Pittsburgh Steelers make a few practice squad roster adjustments on Wednesday. The team released defensive lineman Renell Wren and added wide receiver Ja’Marcus Bradley and running back Mater Teague.

Teague spent much of training camp and the preseason with the Steelers. the former Ohio State back could be the player who ends up on the active roster on Monday against the Indianapolis Colts if Jaylen Warren isn’t back from his hamstring injury.

Bradley has been in the league since 2020 when he signed as an undrafted free agent out of Louisiana. He has spent time with the Cleveland Browns and could provide depth at the position.

Steelers bring in a mix of free agents for workouts and visits

Pittsburgh is looking for roster help this week.

On Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers hosted a handful of free agents for either visits for workouts. The Steelers are currently 3-7 and are desperately searching for answers while trying to manage a roster dealing with some injuries. Here is a full list of the players brought in this week.

Steelers DL DeMarvin Leal returns to practice

The Steelers hope to have DeMarvin Leal back this season.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbydbzmnr1bhxef player_id=none image=https://steelerswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced that injured defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal has returned to practice while he remains on IR. This opens the 21-day window for Leal to be activated to the 53-man roster or else he would revert back to IR for the remainder of the season.

Leal suffered a meniscus injury in Week Five of the season which forced surgery and a trip to IR the following week. Leal getting back to practice this quickly certainly puts him on the short end of minimum recovery for a surgery like this.

In his first five NFL games, Leal showed steady improvement, even earning one start. Pittsburgh can always use another big, athletic guy on the defensive front, especially down the stretch of the season.

On Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced they had released outside linebacker Hamilcar Rashed from the practice squad. Rashed had spent the first half of the season on the practice squad IR.
