NFL experts give the Steelers no shot vs the Packers

The Steelers don’t seem to be inspiring confidence this week with the pundits.

When it comes to the Pittsburgh Steelers this season, the pendulum continues to swing back and forth from the NFL experts. No expert gave Pittsburgh a shot to beat the Buffalo Bills and the Steelers did it. The next week no expert gave the Las Vegas Raiders a shot and they went into Heinz Field and beat the Steelers.

So this week, as we check in with our friends over at NFL Pick Watch, we see the pendulum has swung back and 97 percent of experts are going with Green Bay this week as opposed to only three percent calling for the upset.

No one can fault the pundits for not trusting Pittsburgh. They have lost two games in a row and looked ugly doing it. But much of that was health-related and the Steelers look to be getting healthy at just the right time to give the Packers a good fight.

Steelers vs Packers: 3 keys to victory for Pittsburgh

The Steelers need all three phases to upset the Packers this week.

In Week One, no one gave the Pittsburgh Steelers a chance over the Buffalo Bills. In Week Two, no one gave the Las Vegas Raiders a shot to beat the Steelers. See what I’m getting at? It is easy to sit and dismiss the Steelers this week against the Green Bay Packers but in the NFL, literally, anything can happen. It might be a longshot but here’s how the Steelers can beat the Packers.

Steelers OC Matt Canada says no big changes to the offense

The Steelers plan to stay the course on offense and just execute better.

Three games into the Matt Canada era as Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator and things are less than ideal. Pittsburgh is currently last in rushing yards, No. 13 in passing yards, No. 26 in overall yards and No. 28 in points.

However, all that ineptitude isn’t enough to shake Canada. When he spoke to the media he said they have no plans to try to change things up.

“We’re gonna stick with what we’re doing,” Canada said. ” “Obviously, that’s not the answer and that’s not the sexy answer but we believe we’re on the right track. We’ve gotta get some cohesion up front. We’re working to get that, and that’s not an excuse.”

When Canada says they need cohesion up front, this is coach speak for the offensive line stinks. All the schematic stuff in the world isn’t going to matter until those five guys up front win more than they lose.

This week’s test for the Steelers is the Green Bay Packers. In the past, it was easy to lay the blame for Pittsburgh’s problems on offense on former offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner. At this point, it is far less about the system or playcalling and all execution.

Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger says the offense is ‘close’

Ben Roethlisberger sounds optimistic about the struggling Pittsburgh offense.

When Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger addressed the media on Wednesday, he had to defend his offensive teammates and their struggles early in the season.

Which is exactly what Roethlisberger did. In Roethlisberger’s opinion, this group still believes in each other and in his words, feels like the offense is close.

Close to what exactly? Close to not being the worst rushing team in the NFL? That’s good I suppose. Close to not having a paltry 5.5 yards per attempt in the passing game? I guess that’s progress.

But the reality is, this offense isn’t close. Not close to being as dynamic as its parts would lead you to believe it can be. It’s not close to taking the burden off a banged-up defense.

The Steelers get their next test on Sunday when this offense will try to keep pace with Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.

Steelers vs Packers: 4 early causes for concern this week

The Steelers have a steep challenge on Sunday against the Packers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers get no breaks this week as they travel to Green Bay to take on the Packers after an upset loss at home to the Cincinnati Bengals. It might be too early to talk about a must-win game but this one might be as close as it gets for a team with playoff aspirations. Here are our early causes of concern.
