It seems the plan was for Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Robert Spillane to play this week against the Buffalo Bills with rookie linebacker Buddy Johnson on the inactive list. However, Spillane suffered a shin injury in pregame warmups, pushing Johnson to the gameday roster and Spillane will sit.

Steelers LB Robert Spillane among inactives versus the Bills

Several surprises on the Steelers first inactive list of the season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced their inactives for this week’s game against the Buffalo Bills. The big surprise on the list is former starting inside linebacker Robert Spillane. Here’s the full list.

LB Robert Spillane

QB Dwayne Haskins

DE Isaiahh Loudermilk

OL Rashaad Coward

CB Ahkello Witherspoon

Witherspoon was acquired in a trade late in the offseason but the hope is he works his way into the lineup soon. Coward had been the primary backup at guard but the team probably like B.J. Finney’s position versatility more. As for Spillane, he was largely miscast as a starter last season and played primarily out of need. The addition of Joe Schobert this offseason let Spillane know his hard-nosed style but lack of athleticism wasn’t what the Steelers need on the inside.

Steelers vs Bills: LB Alex Highsmith questionable vs Buffalo

Pittsburgh goes into their first game of the season relatively healthy.

[mm-video type=video id=01ff65q4xbf8k7n666ft playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01ff65q4xbf8k7n666ft/01ff65q4xbf8k7n666ft-c844b1d4c3ff1d4f4d52efa7dcc56745.jpg]

As you would hope, the Pittsburgh Steelers are largely healthy as they head into their Week One showdown with the Buffalo Bills. The team put out its official injury report for Sunday’s game and only linebacker Alex Highsmith was listed as questionable with a groin injury.

Highsmith was a full participant in practice on Friday which does make you believe his placement on the injury report is just a formality. If Highsmith cannot go or is limited, look for a heavy dose of new Steelers edge rusher Melvin Ingram opposite T.J. Watt.

The Steelers will go into the game without two other starters at offensive tackle Zach Banner and defensive end Stephon Tuitt are both beginning their seasons on the IR. Banner will be replaced by rookie Dan Moore Jr. and Tuitt is being replaced by Chris Wormley in the starting lineup.

Experts not giving the Steelers much of a chance vs the Bills

Let’s take a look at how the experts think Steelers vs Bills is going to go.

The Week One showdown between the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday will be a matchup of two of the best AFC teams from last season. Both teams won their respective divisions last season and the Bills won their head-to-head matchup in the regular season.

Pittsburgh is on the road for this first game and the betting line currently sits at the Steelers +6.5. NFL pundits all around the internet are making their picks for this game and they aren’t giving the Steelers much of a chance.

NFL Pick Watch aggregates expert picks from all over the internet and they currently have the Steelers with only 10 percent of the picks as compared to the Bills with 90 percent.

If this game were in Pittsburgh, I would suspect these picks might be closer to the middle but it’s doubtful a majority would go with the Steelers. Pittsburgh has turned over a significant amount of the roster and will have multiple new starters on all three units.

Steelers vs Bills: Pittsburgh remains 6.5-point underdogs on the road

If the Steelers can’t win, can they at least keep it close?

[mm-video type=video id=01ff65q4xbf8k7n666ft playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01ff65q4xbf8k7n666ft/01ff65q4xbf8k7n666ft-c844b1d4c3ff1d4f4d52efa7dcc56745.jpg]

According to the oddsmakers at Tipico, the Pittsburgh Steelers remain 6.5-point road underdogs against the Buffalo Bills this week. This line has stayed consistent over the past several weeks.

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise the Steelers are road underdogs against a team like the Bills. Buffalo beat the Steelers last season and looks to be a better all-around team this year.

I don’t fancy myself much of a gambler but if I were betting on this game, I’d definitely take the Steelers and the points. I’m not prepared to say the Steelers will win outright, although it wouldn’t shock me, but that Steelers defense is crazy talented and should keep the game within a touchdown.

I want to pass the question off to Steeler Nation. Can the Steelers win this game and if they can’t are you confident they can keep it within a touchdown? Let us know in the comments.

Steelers vs Bills: 6 storylines in this week’s game

How will the Steelers rookies perform this week?

The 2021 NFL season is going to be an interesting one for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Coming off of an AFC North championship, most experts aren’t giving Pittsburgh much of a chance for a repeat. There’s no break for the Steelers in the first week as they hit the road to take on the Buffalo Bills. Here are the big storylines to watch this week.

Steelers vs. Bills injury update: Good and bad news from Pittsburgh

An injury update ahead of the Pittsburgh Steelers Week 1 matchup against Buffalo Bills was released.

Good news or bad news: Which do you want to first?

I’ll start with the bad. The big injury news out of Pittsburgh Steelers practice on Thursday had to do with Alex Highsmith. The groin injury that limited him on Wednesday kept him out today. The severity of the injury is unknown, but it could keep the second-year linebacker out of the lineup on Sunday versus the Buffalo Bills.

Now for the good news. Tyson Alualu (elbow) and Kendrick Green (thumb), who did not fully practice on Wednesday, were a full go today.

The Steelers practice for a final time in Pittsburgh tomorrow before they head to Buffalo on Saturday.

Steelers vs. Bills injury report: 3 starters land on injured list

The first injury report of the Steelers Week 1 brawl with the Bills was released and… let’s just hope that things look worse than they are.

The first injury report of the Pittsburgh Steelers Week 1 brawl with the Bills was released and… let’s just hope that things look worse than they are.

Starters Alex Highsmith (thumb), Kendrick Green (groin) and Tyson Alualu (elbow) are all included on the injury report. All three starters participated fully in Tuesday’s practice, but that changed in the blink of an eye.

Highsmith and Green both were limited in Wednesday’s practice, but Alualu’s elbow injury kept him out. Green spoke with the media following practice Wednesday, so the rookie center should be a go for Sunday.

The Steelers practice again tomorrow and Friday before shuffling off to Buffalo on Saturday. Check back with Steelers Wire tomorrow for an updated injury report.

Which member of the Bills do you want on the Steelers this week?

How good would Josh Allen look in a Steelers jersey?

[mm-video type=playlist id=01eqbydbzmnr1bhxef player_id=none image=https://steelerswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

Every week as we scout the Pittsburgh Steelers current opponent, we study their roster closely and think about which guy we’d love to poach from the opponent for the week. This week the Steelers kick off the NFL regular season on the road against the Buffalo Bills.

Which member of the Bills would you take this week? For me, it comes down to three guys. The first and the easiest choice would be Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Allen is easily one of the three or four best quarterbacks in the league and truly one of the elite stars. Ben Roethlisberger is a great player and future Hall of Famer but it’s tough to pass on a player like Allen.

But let’s think about those Bills offensive tackles. Daryl Williams and Dion Dawkins both represent huge upgrades over Dan Moore Jr. and Chuks Okorafor. The reality is this team isn’t going to be good until the offensive line is good. So adding either of these players would be an upgrade.

Tell us, Steeler Nation, which Buffalo player do you want this week? Let us know in the comments.
