Steelers vs Jaguars: 3 causes for concern this week

Steelers Wire takes a look at some of the worries we have this week as the Steelers prepare to take on the Jaguars.

On paper, the Pittsburgh Steelers should head down to Jacksonville this weekend, get an easy win over the Jaguars and then head home and start their short week or prep for their Thanksgiving showdown with the Baltimore Ravens.

But we know when it comes to the Steelers, there’s now such thing as playing it on paper. Here is what we are worried about this week.

Steelers HC Mike Tomlin says team will re-center on the run game

The run game has been a problem and Mike Tomlin understands this.

Over the course of the last three weeks, the Pittsburgh Steelers have failed to rush for 50 yards in any of those games. In the final analysis, it hasn’t mattered as the Steelers have won all three of those games.

Nevertheless, any thinking person recognizes you cannot sustain the type of offense Pittsburgh has won with over the last three weeks. This is certainly true of Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin who addressed the problem in his Tuesday press conference and vowed it was something Pittsburgh is going to work on.

We’ve already talked about how the Steelers can fix the run game. Finding a newfound commitment to a balanced offense is a must as the team heads into December when the weather can have a significant negative impact on even the best passing game.

Running back James Conner topped 100 yards rushing three times in the first five games with Benny Snell getting a 100-yard performance in one of those games where Conner did not. How does a team go from having a 100-yard rusher in four of five games to being unable to rush for 50 yards as a team for three games in a row?

What do you think has been the biggest problem with the run game in recent weeks? And do you agree with Tomlin that it must be improved or are you of the mind that as long as the team is winning it doesn’t matter? Let us know in the comments.

Steelers open as 9.5-point favorites over Jaguars

The Steelers are big road favorites over the one-win Jaguars this week.

[jwplayer JZtzT24f-ThvAeFxT]

The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to assert themselves as the top team in the NFL. After two weeks of struggles, Pittsburgh came out and made a statement last week as they dominated the Cincinnati Bengals 36-10.

This week the Steelers travel to Jacksonville to take on the woeful Jaguars who currently sit at 1-8. Even on the road, the Steelers are big favorites opening at 9.5 according to BetMGM.

There is no good reason for the Steelers to lose this game. Top to bottom their roster is better than the Jaguars and recent history suggests Pittsburgh has been in control of this series.

Pittsburgh has played these games awfully close this season against bad football teams so this number feels high. The Steelers 26-point win over the Bengals was impressive but I fully expect this game to be much closer.
