Cardinals WR coach was rooting for Rams to win Super Bowl

Shawn Jefferson’s son is Rams WR Van Jefferson. He wanted a championship in the family.

The Los Angeles Rams are a division rival of the Arizona Cardinals. However, one of the Cardinals’ coaches was actively rooting for the Rams to win the Super Bowl.

Why?

Well, Shawn Jefferson, the Cardinals’ wide receivers coach, has a reason to root for a presumed enemy and nemesis. His son, receiver Van Jefferson, plays for the Rams.

He was hoping the Rams could make his son a champion.

Appearing on the Big Red Rage, Jefferson spoke about how nervous he was at the game.

“I’m on pins and needles because I really want my son to get this ring,” he said. “I played in two Super bowls, lost both of them, so I’m like, ‘third time’s a charm. You’ve got to get this ring. I’m rooting for you, We’ve got a get a championship in the Jefferson family.'”

The Rams did win the Super Bowl. Van Jefferson had four receptions for 23 yards but he also had a big day. His wife went into labor at the game and he rushed after the game to be there for the birth.

The elder Jefferson said the Rams were great. They held elevators and had a car service waiting for them.

With the Rams’ 23-20 win, the third time was the charm for the Jefferson family. Shawn Jefferson did not win one as a player and has not yet done so as a coach, but he did get to witness his son win one, and then immediately afterward, get to welcome a new grandchild into the world and the family.

“My son winning a championship and then becoming a grandfather, it was just an unbelievable experience,” he said. “I couldn’t have asked for anything better. That Super Bowl Sunday was the best Super Bowl Sunday of my life.

“That’s one birthday I will never forget.”

For fans, it might not be a good thing to see the Cardinals’ nemesis win a title, but when it comes down to family, it’s hard to think anything bad about it.
